As Tunnel Rat said, the reason Shin & co. survive is because of Rei. Here's an excerpt directly from the light novels that explains the concept of transferring better than I can: "In order to preserve data, the Legion's mission recorder was set to transfer the battle data from a downed unit's files to a nearby consort unit. In the case of a Shepherd, it would transfer everything - the central processor data included - to a spare unit prepared and designated ahead of time." Rei follows it up by saying that even though this system is in place, the rushed nature of it (happening right before a unit was destroyed) left the data damaged and the spare units barely functioned, so they wouldn't last long. About the countries, we know of 3 so far. The first is the Republic of San Magnolia (yall kept accidentally calling it the Federation, but its a Republic) that are trying to kill off the 86 in order to save their reputation because dead men tell no tales. They know that there were other countries before the war, but are uncertain of their status as of now due to the interference of the Eintagsfliege (electronic disruption type Legion that make communicating with anything other than the ParaRaids impossible). The second is the Giadian Empire. They are the ones who created the Legion and then were overthrown by their own people. Overthrowing the Empire led to the creation of a new country, the Federal Republic of Giad - so same citizens, new government. The Federacy are now also dealing with the Legion, as they have gone rogue after the destruction of the Empire. Last part of this comment is an overdue discussion about the races in the world of Eighty-Six. There are several, and each is based on a different color. Additionally, each race has several subraces, one of which has a genertic Esper power. I will not be discussing the powers themselves until later, but I will give a quick list of the races, subraces, and representative colors: - ALBA. Color - White or silver. Subraces - Adularia, Alabaster, Celena. Lena & Annette are Celenas, while Anju is half Adularia. - AURATA. Color - Gold. Subraces - Heliodor/Beryl, Topaz. Kurena is half Topaz. - AQUILA. Color - Black. Subraces - Eisen, Jet, Onyx. Raiden is an Eisen, Ernst is a Jet, and Shin, Rei, and Frederica are all half Onyx. - CAERULEA. Color - Blue. Subraces - Celesta, Sapphira. Anju is half Celesta, Daiya was a Sapphira. - FERRUGINEA. Color - Rust/Brown. No known subgroups currently. - RUBELA. Color - Red. Subraces - Agate, Pyrope, Rubis, Spinel. Kurena is half Agate, Haruto was a Rubis, and Shin, Rei, and Frederica are all half Pyrope. - VERIDIA. Color - Green. Subraces - Aventura, Emeraud, Jade. Theo is a Jade. - VIOLA. Color - Purple. Subraces - Amethysta, Iola, Sirin. We have not met any Violas yet. - NON-WESTERN RACES. There are a few races not native to this area. They are Austra/Meridiana, Deseria, and Orienta. Kujo was an Austra/Meridiana and Kaie was an Orienta.

2022-07-20 15:24:42 +0000 UTCThis season will be covering volume 2–3, so there’s gonna be quite a bit of world building, and character progression for our main cast. Keep in mind that 86 was originally a oneshot, so it had a beginning and ending. Without spoiling, volume 2-3 pretty much bridges the gap between the final chapter of volume 1 and it’s epilogue. Lena’s red hair can be interpreted as an act of ‘defiance’ but it’s mainly to show her remembrance to the Spearhead Squadron, as well as all the 86ers that have died. The black uniform also obviously representing mourning. As for the new 86er introduced: Shiden (Cyclops) because of her heterochromia. As for the reason for Shin and co surviving, it’s not shown literally in the episode, but it’s hinted throughout. Basically, after Shin ‘defeated’ Rei, his conscience was transferred to another unit (the Dinosauria you saw) and was able to save Shin and co before the Legion got to them. He then carried them to the Federal Republic where they were picked up before Rei finally did die. The talk between Shin and Rei pretty much shows it. Hope you guys also react to the opening. Definitely a banger like the first opening.
