Of course, in the context of this story, Lena is not to blame. She is trying to undo that systematic racism that she was raised into, which is difficult to do, especially by herself. That's where Spearhead is good for her - interacting with them can help her undo that and better herself, release herself of the things her society has ingrained in her without even realizing. At the same time, the 86 and Theo are not wrong for being angry with her - empty words are insulting and they are not wrong for being upset about it. But Shin's words are the most correct. This isn't Lena's fault and she cannot be expected to fix it by herself or even at all.

2022-05-25 20:40:39 +0000 UTCI'm glad that y'all made the comparison between Gundam and 86. The same can be said really to most major mech shows vs 86. A lot of mech shows focus a lot on the action and its mostly "super awesome cool mech tech fights". 86 opens up with what seems to be cool tech (and the tech is pretty cool, at least on the Legion's side), but the real star of the show is its characters and their relations. Even in comparison between the tech in other shows vs the tech in 86, the Juggernauts specifically are trash. Think about the fact that Shin is able to cut a piece of the mech off with a standard combat knife. Even in the first few episodes (either ep.1 or ep.2), the members of Spearhead even mention that there are gaps and holes in the armor and its flimsy, the legs are not that sturdy (hence why Shin keeps breaking them much to Aldrecht's chagrin), etc. The mechs are crap.
