Hey guys
So, remember that I said there was 1 thing that made all the difference in the filter ?
It was the day multiplier
At some point in the RealityFilter development there was a bug that was making me crazy XD
In cars that had virtual mirrors or a reverse camera in the infotainment the image would be super overexposed
I dropped the displays brightness at the time but that didn't help, it would look like a dimmed overexposed image still
Tried many things, and what solved that was lowering the said day multi
Was pretty proud RealityFilter was a pioneer on that
It fixed it, but, now I had to completely rework the lighting aspect of Pure
And even known it was very developed it was reaching a bit of a dead end, it would create weird looks in some scenarios like the dark fog, or weird values in extreme sun angles, it needed the display brightness stabilizer and more...
With time I think that that camera bug was maybe solved in CSP, at least with the day multi in normal values it no longer looks overexposed in mirror screens
That's awesome because now I'm able to change the "philosophy" behind many, not to say basically every calculation
This leads to no just a better overall look, no screen bugs, no weird looks in extreme situations but also a much improved loading time
Once you load the filter it will stabilize the values in just a few seconds, no more need to wait many seconds to load the filter
The "philosophy" behind the color grading was also not the best
I tried to give the game a more realistic contrast by boosting the contrast in the color grading
But this wasn't the best way
It would get very dark in some situations forcing me to boost some Pure values to compensate
At some point there was also a bug with it, there was a bit of a pastel look into it
Now, the contrast looks on point, but not because it was boosted, because now the game is gamma corrected
While I'm still tuning everything I no longer feel the need to use the color grading for that so I turned it off
In a later stage I may redo it from scratch to get that subtle color correction, but that's something simple and easy to do, so I'll do the more complicated stuff first
Putting that all aside, you probably saw the comparison at the top
What do you think ?
I'm implementing a new feature in the next beta
During the day the tunnels looked way to lit, too much light in there
This was very noticeable if you went into the replay mode and when inside the tunnel you changed the time from day to night
It would look normal at night but during day it would get very bright
This makes no sense, it should look basically the same during day or night as there isn't much sun light inside the tunnel
This feature improves that a lot
Once you get into a tunnel or a garage in automatically gets rid of that artificial light making it look so good
Now I spend all the time driving in tunnels haha
With time, as I develop this new beta, the features that are in the current beta6 will be transfered and improved for the beta7
Luckily found this little thing haha
Can't wait to give you guys the beta7 for you to try
Cya !
