I hope you know that the show becomes the masterpiece you've probably heard about probably half way though season 1. S2 and 3 are pretty amazing overall. Also, you have only heard bad things about the live action show, or the live action movie, or both? If it is both or the live action show, I'd be surprised. As a long time fan of the original show, the live action show wasn't bad. It was very different and there were things I didn't like, but overall I was pleased with it. The movie is a different story and that is a piece of shit.

I watched it as a kid as well, but I think the show honestly is even better to watch as an adult since you catch on to way more of the nuances that are hidden between the lines. it was aired on Nickelodeon, so of course it's gonna be kid-friendly, but the show does get surprisingly dark at times too. and even aside from all of that, it's genuinely just one of the best-written shows I've seen. I have a feeling you'll enjoy it a lot!
