I had similar problem on my laptop when I was on vacation a week ago, it was crashing just after opening the game but eventually it worked after a few tries. I'm using only my mods there and I haven't downloaded that many of them anyway. So I don't think it's a problem with the amount of mods. Everything works for me on my computer at home, so maybe it has something to do with the device itself? Just my guess, I don't really know the answer, sorry.
