Should probably have mentioned: Dexter has won a total of 32 awards throughout its run, including: 2 Primetime Emmy Awards (2 wins) for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. 2 Golden Globe Awards (2 wins) for Best Television Series – Drama. 1 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. 1 Peabody Award for excellence in television. The show has been nominated for over 100 awards in total, making it one of the most recognized series in television history. 🙏❤😇

bojack horseman is such a riot and so ahead of its time. its depictions of mental health and different societal struggles hit home and yes its kooky and strange but thats whats so great about it. because its an animated series sooo much more was able to be added that simply cant be done with life action. its a show i think you would connect with and I really recommend it

Orphan Black is outstanding and, much like Dexter, unlike any other show released in its era (2010s). The personalities are vibrant and winning, and the conflicts engage you in near edge-of-your-seat action. It's nearly an unreliable-narrator series. You can never be sure of what might happen next. The main actor will take your breath away, she's that good.

Sarah Jane

Dexter is a show unlike any other, with a serial killer main character (not a spoiler, it's revealed in episode 1) whom you find yourself rooting for. I love his foul-mouthed little sister, each season's Big Bad (villain), and Dexter's relationships with his community and co-workers (you come to root for some of them, too). It's smart and well written, it's funny at times, and it's a rewarding watch. The 'post-Dexter' season that just aired last year is top notch, after two seasons that were not as great as the 7 that came before them, LOL. But even the 'not great' seasons are very watchable.

Sarah Jane

Absolutely Dexter

Invincible is just an amazing story in and of itself. One of the few that deals with the realistic consequences of living in a world that has supers. But not in the intentionally over-the-top and hyper hedonistic way the Boys does (because Kirkman doesn't hate the super genre like Ennis does). The things that happen have consequences. And people have to actually deal with those consequences. They can't just sweep them under the rug and forget about them to return to the status quo. You get to see the heroes as the actual people they are. Flawed, and making mistakes, but actually trying, learning and growing. They are actual 3-dimensional characters and not just color coded cookie cutter tropes. Also, the show does an amazing job of actually improving on and correcting some of the more well known mistakes the comic made during it's run. I can't wait to see where it goes moving into Season 4 and beyond. -Your Friendly Overworked IT Guy

Orphan Black is at once: - a masterclass in performance from Tatiana Maslany -an extremely well-plotted multi-season mystery -a beautiful balance between comedy/drama/thriller -a moving story about sisterhood, motherhood and personhood -Canadian haha 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦 I think based on how much you’ve liked Dark and the mystery elements of True Blood you would digggg it

Natasha

I love Orphan Black. The acting is AMAZING; Tatiana Maslany (from memory; hope I'm right) is absolutely outstanding, it's a good ensemble show with a twist.

Ava Sinclair

Succession and Bojack are high-tier rewatches for me - they both capture a scummy sort of human storyline in ways that both expose the scummy sort of human(s) while affording them humanity enough to tell their narratives with interesting nuance and depth while not forgiving them. Black Orphan was pretty good, but I never ended up finishing it just because I kind of got lost and disinterested at some point. Not a bad watch, though!

Nova

🙏 ... I should have also said, it doesn't have "serial killer show" vibes, it's more like vigilante vibes. We are always rooting for Dexter. The show gives us many satisfying vengeance moments -- folks getting their just deserts, as it were.

ArcAngel

But also you’ll never be free of me shouting Orphan Black at you like I did Newsreader, so there’s that.

Jessica

You can’t go wrong. They’re all very you, even if it’s not immediately obvious why. You really like unpacking characters, and don’t get too hung up on their morality (Mango excluded). You really only care if their choices make sense for them. Orphan Black and Dexter would be my picks because of the nuances of the psychology, mystery, cat and mouse. They’re also different than a lot of your current lineup. I’m also going to be really vulnerable here: I thought we were voting for Murderbot instead of Mr. Robot. 💀 Mr. Robot wasn’t for me, but it’s a slam dunk for you on paper. The plot is deliberately confusing, so it would be best on the schedule when you have time to bank some episodes. It’ll be very challenging to follow if you go weeks in between.

Jessica

I've only seen Succession and it's brilliant. For Kieran Culkin's performance alone it's worth watching! But it just so happens that everyone else is also amazing, the writing is incredible, and there's so much dark humour and psychological stuff to dig into with such a messed up family. Highly recommend. I really want to watch Mr. Robot too as I've heard great things about it

Kim D

Bojack Horseman is fantastically written, it depicts mental health struggles in such a real and non romanticized way, it helped me through the worst time of m life and all the while it‘s still fuuuuunny. 🖤

Schniien

My thoughts exactly.

EVERYTHING ARCANGEL SAID ABOUT DEXTER!

Victoria

Dexter is a show which (this might be a weird comparison) reminds me of true blood with regard to tone and pace. It grabs you immediately and keeps moving. I'm convinced if you watched the first 5 minutes, you wouldn't put it down through many seasons. It's got an anti-hero vibe, but it doesn't take itself too seriously. The hero is a serial killer, but it's disarmingly enjoyable. The writing is great. The acting is great. The story is very compelling and addictive. But obviously it's very different from True Blood -- nothing supernatural and not such a freaky free-for-all (WAY less sex and naked people). And it's more psychologically driven. We are drawn into the life of a killer who passes as normal ...convincingly! How did he get this way? What was his childhood like? What traumas created him? What still haunts him today? How does his mind work and what are his coping mechanisms? Psychology is explored the FUN way. Dexter is a unique blend of complex but fun; a dark subject yet engaging and enjoyable. In one phrase: Dexter is a thinking man's never-a-dull-moment show.

ArcAngel

Orphan Black is just an amazing science fiction show that shows off Tatiana Maslany's amazing acting chops while also telling a great story of autonomy and individuality. It questions if and how far science should go in the name of discovery and it revolves around the people who are directly affected by the fallout

Tiffers

Dexter has great characters, writing, and a plot that keeps you hooked. Definitely my favorite of all these.

Rhonda Rocca

Okay, I'll say this about Orphan Black because you can only say so much about it without spoiling lol. So tge best thing to do is bring up Tatiana Maslany's acting like everyone else, so I'll just add to that to that to bring perspective of the level of acting that she gives in the series. So, the show started as this small, Canadian series that was coming on BBC America. No one really knew who Tatiana Maslany was. Season 1 came out and it ended up with this small, but strong fandom and those who watched was obsessed. Emmy nominations came around and fans of the show pointed out that she got snubbed for a nomination, despite being praised by critics and literally winning the Critics Choice for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series, because the talent she was displaying on that show was absolutely outstanding. A few articles mention her being on the Emmy nomination snubs that year, but again, nobody really knew who she was at the time though despite winning such an award... Most people never even HEARD of Orphan Black(it's still lowkey a little known all things considered because there's still a lot of people who STILL haven't ever heard of it lol). I actually missed the first season's original airing and got put on because I was heabily on Tumblr at the time, and Orange is the New Black(which was a HUGE hit when it dropped) came out the same year, almost back to back after Orphan Black ended(I didn't have Netflix so I didn't watch that either until later that fall at my sister's because she had it lol), and on Tumblr I would just see a bunch of people I was cool with from other fandoms posting sets gifs for both shows all over, and because I wasn't familiar with either, my brain told myself that it was somehow the same show by mixing up the titles as one thing, and had this goofy theory about what the "show's premise" was based on the different gifs, not realizing that they were literally two different shows lol. That was until I accidentally stumbled across the whole first season free OnDemand during the summer looking for something to watch(TWD wasn't on during the show and that was my main series at the time), said, "Why not?", and hit play out of boredom. That show had me in just the first 3 minutes and straight binged the whole 10 episode season back to back that day, trying to figure out how the hell was I supposed to wait however many months until spring for it to come back when that final episode finished lol... Season 2 comes around, the show is getting more popular and more hype. She wins the Critics Choice award again, but again, she gets snubbed the Emmy nomination. Now, more peope online calling it out on different online platforms and social media, INCLUDING some other known actors who were fans of the show and praising Tatiana for her acting in the series, like Orlando Jones(he actually joined our big, Orphan Black group that I admin on Facebook at one point 😆). And of course more articles and critics are mentioning her amongst the snubbed they talk about every year. And the fandom's getting pretty loud about it... AMC Network buys BBC America and premieres the season 3 premiere on all of their networks(AMC, BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV, and We TV). Season 3, she FINALLY gets her Emmy nomination. Except she has to go head to head against THE Viola Davis, who came out swinging being nominated for Season 1 of How To Get Away With Murder(another show I reccommed because Viola Davis is EVERTHING as Annaliese Keating, and I'll just say this was a crazy wra of television for me personally because I was watching The Walking Dead, Orphan Black, How To Get Away With Murder, and all 3 of those were giving me chaos, stress, and probably high blood pressure in the best way 😆😭), and the other big nomination that year was Taraji P Henson for Season 1 of Empire, which was hot, and both the show and Taraji's character as Cookie Lyon was one of the most talk about that year. Viola Davis took toom home the win... Season 4 of Orphan Black comes around and Tatiana Maslany get nominated again, and so does Viola Davis for Season 2 of How To Get Away With Murder. This time, Tatiana Malsany FINALLY wins her Emmy(after two snubs and a loss), actually beating THE Viola Davis(who of course was killing it in season 2 of HTGAWM). Keep in mind, despite the show gaining more popularity, it's still some BBC America show that came on after Dr. Who on Saturday nights at like 10 pm EST, going against MUCH bigger shows on much bigger network against even bigger stars/names. This time, Tatiana actually WINS the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in Drama Series... Now, I'm not speaking on this someone who care as award shows because I care genuinely, genuinely don't really care(I think even if I was an actor myself, I probably still would really care even if I was nominated lol), but I just wanted to point out the fact that Tatiana Maslany, who despite was still a little known actress on a still little known show in comparison was able to actually BEAT Viola Davis, highly praised, highly critically acclaimed powerhouse of an actress, especially such a role like Annaliese Keating in How To Get Away With Murder, is a HUGE feat, because they could have still easily given it to Viola Davis(and season 2 is probably my personal favorite season of that series too), it's a testimate to her talent... I hope that's enough to convince you to check it out because that's all . I can't even really give you the main genre other than it's a mystery and drama, but it's genuinely a multi genre series and it'll give you at least a little bit of everything, and you absolutely won't regret it...

Dexter is my fav of the bunch.. followed by Mr Robot.

hypocritex

I think Dexter is a WAY better show then True blood. But I otherwise agree.. Both inevitably fell off.

hypocritex

1. Mr. Robot - It's more than just a show about a hacker up against global corporations. It's a study on character and mental illness. This is in my top 3 shows of all time and I think you have a good idea of the type of shows I fuck with so this is praise of the highest order LOL. 2. Orphan Black - Tatiana Maslany deserved ALL the awards for her work on this show. Such a good sci-fi story. I actually haven't finished watching that last season, not because I lost interest, it was during a time when my wife couldn't really handle how intense tv could get for her, and this was a show we watched together. I'd be thrilled to watch this together with everyone. 3. Dexter - Six Feet Under is my favourite show of all time and Michael C. Hall killed it in his role as David Fisher. Then he turns around and lands another iconic role as Dexter, in a complete 180 character role. I didn't think I'd believe Hall going into Dexter when it first came out, but holy shit. Man is an acting genius. 4. Succession - Great acting from top to bottom. I really enjoyed it, but sometimes it felt like hate-watching lol. It is up there in terms of production, acting, storyline, etc., and it deserved all the awards it got. But there are other shows that I personally would put ahead of this one. I haven't watched the other ones, I'm not much of an animation person, but I've heard such great things about Bojack Horsemen and Invincible, that I'd watch both here.

Kara

Dexter is absolutely edge of your seat shit. Reminds me a lot of True Blood that way. Funny, shocking, with interesting characters and great writing… for the first four or so seasons. It falls off. When it’s good it’s absolutely peak. Bojack is silly serious. Tonally strange character study of some really interesting characters. Not as lighthearted as it seems, can be a tough watch. Self-destruction is a major theme. There is a cute dog named Mr. Peanutbutter. These things exist side by side. Succession is super dry humor about terrible people. It will piss you off. Very cleverly written, lots of fast paced verbal jokes. Watch relationships fall apart, root for rich people to humiliate and destroy each other. The Game of Thrones comparisons are apt.

Valaree

Fringe would be amazing!

Amanda Grace

I thought I hadn't seen Succession but just looked it up and turns out I agree with you on that show. I tried it a few years ago and couldn't get into it - but I didn't get as far as you. I only got maybe halfway through season 1 before I gave up. Though to be fair, I also hated True Blood back when it came out, but have really enjoyed watching it along with Taco - so I'd be willing to give Succession another shot too if it wins.

Brittany W

Bojack is the best representation of depression outside maybe The Sopranos. Don't let the first couple episodes make you think it's crappy adult animation, this show rules. I never watched Invincible but I did read it. The huge spoiler in the beginning blew my MFIN mind, give it a shot. Mr. Robot is the right type of edgey for me. Made me wanna be in cybersecurity for a hot minute. Great character study, top 5 show all time for me. Fuck Succession. Whiny bitchass billionaires trying to act like they're humans and coming off more monstrous tham Zuckerberg drinking water at that senate hearing. Fucking disgusting.

Dane

Bojack: fantastic writing! The characters are written realistically, and the show covers a wide variety of topics (including some heavier ones) in a way that's often funny, but still respectful. It also has some regular "TV comedy / funny just because" bits mixed in. Dexter: it's like a tense thriller mystery told by a character with a dry, dark humor. It's also interesting from a psychological standpoint - but written in a way to entertain instead of like... trying to educate. Orphan Black: amazing acting, especially from the lead! A good sci-fi thriller type of story, with regular people having to navigate finding out their lives and the world around them isn't what they thought. I also love the sisterhood/girl-power themes. I don't think I've seen the others, but if they're recommended by this community, I'm sure they're also great shows - I'll look forward to whichever one you end up going with!

Brittany W

Dexter is one of my favorite shows. Just all around great. Dark humor, the characters are interesting and it managed to surprise me at times.

Becky Mitchell

Tatiana Maslany teaches a masterclass in acting in Orphan Black. Can’t say much without spoiling it, but I’ll just say she gets to show true range. Deep character work, and it keeps you guessing! Dexter is amazing at least through season 5. Fantastic storylines, character work, and it also keeps you guessing. Amazing guest stars too. Personally—and I know I’m going against the grain here—I found Succession extremely boring. I gave it three seasons and could never get into it. Bojack Horseman is quite good, but I’m in no hurry to rewatch it.

Amanda Grace

Im surprised you have anything over Mr. Robot friend, you've been telling me about this show for awhile now..so succession must really be something!!?

Raymond Walker

I didn't vote for one of them but will give them a chance. 😅 (But no Bojack Horseman, I can't stand this show.) I'm still hoping for Dead Boy Detevtives, Talamasca, Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Dollhouse, Farscape and Fringe. 😁 My time will come. 🙂

Myra

That's sounds right up my allley!

Raymond Walker

Bojack horseman is my favorite show of all time. It taught me a lot about how to be a better person. It's a character study of one deeply damaged individual (horse). But also has a lot to say about the nature of celebrity, forgiveness, addiction, relationships, and generational trauma. It's also very funny. The balance of soul crushing lows and absurd humor is like nothing I've ever seen. Also, the story is a fully realized arc that continues to improve season after season without a dip in quality.

Juliet

IN ORDER OF HOW I WOULD RANK THEM: **PEAK TELEVISION** 1. Jonathan said it succinctly: "Succession" is a masterpiece. In my top five best television series of all time. 2. "Mr. Robot" is so much more than it appears to be. Incredible acting, cool cinematography, and a wild ride of plot and character that takes you somewhere unexpected and emotionally satisfying. Simplifying it to being a show about a hacker is an insult to its brilliance. **MODERATELY SIZED GAP** 3. "Dexter" is in no way comparable to "Hannibal" -- so no worries about that. Great acting, interesting characters, compelling plot lines. 4. "Orphan Black" is an incredible feat of acting by Tatiana Maslany. It's a thought-provoking show. TBH I didn't fully finish it, but I watched several seasons. It got a little lost in the sauce for me.

Melissa

You're getting me hyped lmao!!😅

Raymond Walker

Take back everything I said about Succession as my #1 pick, I didn’t even see Mr. Robot. You know I’ve been a “Taco HAS to watch Mr. Robot by any means necessary” enthusiast since the very beginning of your Patreon. It really is the perfect show for you. Lots of plot twists, unique story, alternate POVs. You HAVE TOOOOO.

Amanda Hill

I never finished Dexter, but MAN the seasons I watched were GOOD. Dark, dark humor, great characters - it's unique in a lot of ways. I've wanted to go back and finish for a long time, just haven't.

Rhiannon

All three sound like bangers!

Raymond Walker

Only choice is succession its a masterpiece

Jonathan Lewis

Ive heard its corporate GOT, I dont know how accurate of a description that is but sounds interesting lol

Raymond Walker

Succession: the drama and it’s a fantastic opportunity for deep character analysis. Well written, well acted

Kayla

Dexter- my god the writing I this show and the psychology Mr robot- man the first season is a perfect season of tv the rest is just as good if not better Invincible- a breath of fresh air for super hero fans a great show with great characters

tyler garner

Omg I would die for succession
