So, I looked it up and they did not use historical footage but they filmed it to mimic the historical footage.

As soon as they set out the “tape” I started laughing. It’s plumber’s tape, the stuff has no adhesive, it’s an incredibly thin film of teflon used to lubricate pipe threads. No way you could restrain anyone with it.

I'm not positive, but I think that in the march sequence near the end of episode 7 that they incorporated historical footage. I've said it before, but anyone who wants to learn more about these cases, there's a really well done documentary called "Atlanta: Missing and Murdered" (or something close to that.
I wonder why they decided to make Wendy's character a lesbian. The real life person she's based on was not -- she was married with two children. Don't misunderstand: I'm fine with including characters of all sexual preferences, etc. & I'm fine with writers taking liberties for the sake of telling a story. I guess what I'm awkwardly trying to say is that I wonder what the creators were thinking when making the decision. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
Taco, you're so right about Anna Torv and the restraint she demonstrates as this character. She's somewhat like that in "Fringe," too, but not like Wendy. Helen must be a dream for her to play with all the range she's able to show.
