FIREFLY EPISODE 4 REACTION! PERFECTION AGAIN!!!!!!! THIS SHOW IS AMAZING!

Dude you're SO RIGHT about the Mal vs. Luffy comparison!! I've been a Browncoat since the show aired back in '02, and a one piece fan waaaaaay back since the late 90s. I remember finding fansubs because they hadn't even started publishing in the US yet. I gotta back up Fox here, if you're an anime fan or a manga fan, you GOTTA read or watch One Piece. If you're not a manga reader and you're like "oh man one piece is too long" I can also recommend you check out the OnePace fan edit that cuts out a lotta filler :)

I saw your reaction to episode 1 on YouTube and I came right over to follow you here. I really enjoy your experiencing this series, it's one of my comfort shows the world building and characters are some of my favorites. I hope after you finish the series you'll watch the movie! The fans loved this series so much they ended up getting a movie to sorta wrap up some stuff in the series. I do believe there is also a comic book set after the movie as well. Shiney✨️

Hey Babette glad to see you here . I agree with you. I'm sure somewhere along the way I'll get to learn how Mal truly feels about his own circumstances. 😊

Raymond Walker

Mal doesn't like Inara's profession and Inara doesn't like Mal's profession... but each are doing what they need to do to get by in a harsh world. Being critical of someone's life choices is a sign that you aren't completely comfortable with your own choices.

So in my way of thinking, the companions are much more in line with courtesans from the Chinese/Japanese culture. One of the things I love about this show that they don't really get into too much detail about is the backstory of humanity in general, in whatever year this supposed to be set. Logically, what would the culture be if the two big superpowers, America and China, went through wars/assimilation and eventually blending together. Like the swearing in Chinese. It's just so wonderfully layered and rich.

This is the kind of show to go back and watch again (and again), so you can pick up all the little things you missed. I swear I've watched this a hundred times, and I still catch little things.

My fave lines from this ep - "Yessir, Capn Tight Pants" "I cannot abide useless people." "Mercy is the mark of a great man. *stab* Guess I'm just a good man. *stab* Well, I'm alright."

That scene was epic. Kaylee as a character is just so loveable

Raymond Walker

Love how Kaylee loved that dress. She saw it as art. It wasn’t about status, or feeling like a princess or whatever. Those girls tried to use it to drag her down, but she knew it was beautiful and she didn’t let their judgement taint that. She likes what she likes, and she doesn’t have to chase external validation. She knows that the right people will find her if she stays true to herself — like all the gearheads she ends up chatting with at the party.

Forgot to add, a great movie about Veronica Franco is Dangerous Beauty.

Tasia Barrett

Only just started the reaction, but just wanted to say historically in western europe courtesans were highly educated and respected, such as 16th century Venice's Veronica Franco. Basically, high class sex workers (versus the "common" kind). To me, the companions in Firefly are meant to be like this.

What’s really lovely about these reactions is how much of the heart of the show you’re picking up on Taco. There is so so much soul in every character through this series and you are clocked in on it. Side note— River’s little monologue to Badger was like the MOST iconic thing I’d ever seen when I first watched this series at like 13-14 haha, love love love her, character of all time 😂

Natasha

NAKAMA!!!!!YOU FEEL ME!!!!! 😁

Raymond Walker

I wouldn’t be surprised if Mal’s middle initial was “D”

BM

Thank you smh I was struggling even trying to say the word. It just doesn't feel right coming out

Raymond Walker

Just starting the reaction, but I wanted to let you know - if you'd like a term that is less demeaning than wh-re, a better phrase being used these days is "sex work" and "sex worker" - just as a heads up!
