TRUE DETECTIVE FINALE

TRUE DETECTIVE FINALE

I really hope you’ll watch season 4! It’s my favorite!

It's interesting that at the end of the story, we still don't really know exactly what the 'cult' was doing? We kinda know what they are doing (or we've seen some tape, some photos) but WHY? It's obviously not just murder or molestation, there's clearly a ritual element to it. The cops and some of our informants have been calling it Satanic or Devil worship. However, our evidence leads to a very different conclusion. This cult 'worships' the Yellow King and the route to obtaining power through this cult is by contacting, via portal, an extra dimensional place called "Carcosa". To participating in the Carcosa rituals, the participants would need to activate A portal. To activate a portal, the lore would suggest the ritual must incorporate some sort of horrific violence or another twisted act. (FYI: I'm trying to distill a metric butt load of relevant cosmic horror into a manageable blurb). The idea we are being led to discover involves certain old families who are participating in these rituals in exchange for power and wealth (Tuttle family, Childress family, etc.) thus they would need a supply of victims over many years. The Tuttle schools would be an excellent source of victims for the twisted ritual sacrifices. Also, the Carcosa rituals would explain why the sacrificial victims have had massive amounts of hallucinogens in their systems -- because part of the ritual would involve communing with Carcosa which is beyond the scope of a sane, normal mind. LSD would simulate insanity and allow communion with the extra dimensional realm. Again, this is true whether or not you believe the Carcosa idea is actually real. However, if you think perhaps the show is suggesting that there IS something to the Carcosa theory, it also explains why Rust can see the portal without being dosed with drugs and/or without being insane like Errol Childress. Rust's brain has already been altered enough through sustained drug use that he can see the portal into Carcosa. Thus, the swirling portal he saw wasn't a hallucination. Additionally, individuals who are associated with the Yellow King bear the 'Yellow Sign'. We hear that concept used when Rust was reading Dora Lange's diary. In fact, we do find numerous victims with the swirl sign on them and Errol Childress has the swirl scarred into his back. We also see the sign pop up in other places -- like for example, the murderess who killed her 3 babies has a swirl shaped scab right in the middle of her forehead. It would have been interesting to see if Tuttle or any other suspected powerful members of the Carcosa cult had the spiral sign branded or tattooed anywhere on there person. It also seems completely intentional that the "yellow sign" looks like a flat representation of the swirling portal Rust sees...almost like the "flat circle" version of that exact same thing. The portal we see through Rust's eyes is sitting amongst some stars...and the stars in question are the constellations which include the Hyades Star Cluster and Aldebaran -- which are the stars which mark the location of Lost Carcosa. ***Because Rust hallucinates the portal and sees it amongst the actual stars wherein the 'real' Carcosa is meant to be located, it's suggesting that the portal Rust sees is NOT a hallucination. ***

BTW: When Guy Francis killed himself in the jail there was a detective named Childress guarding him, so you have an idea of what might have happened...😳

great video, great series. i wonder if you'll watch the next season, to ME it's rough. and it has has no connections to season 1. i didn't watch season 3, but season 4 got me back into the show. to my knowledge season 4 is the next season to make connections to season 1. plus the two leads are amazing.

I wonder if this experience changes his fundamental pessimism. It seems it has short term, maybe if he stays away from police work he can start to heal his trauma a bit. It’s about as positive an ending as I think we could have hoped for.

The accents are so weird! It’s not just accents, the whole vocabulary changes. It’s like he’s playing different characters, or he’s possessed. At first I thought I was just being prejudiced about southern accents, assuming southern = slow or less intelligent, but it really does go beyond that. He’s like a totally different person.

Some of the unanswered questions which are tied into the Yellow King and the Yellow Sign (found on followers of the Yellow King) are: 1. The diabolical Barbie configuration. 2. Why Marty's daughter drew that naked man with the wild face? 3. The scabs on the forehead of the woman who murdered her babies. 4. Why did Dewal say that Rust had a "shadow on him" and a corrosive soul? 5. Why did Reggie Ladoux say to Rust that he saw him in his dream and linked him to "the dark stars"? 6. Why did Errol Childress call Rust "little priest" ? 7. Why did Errol Childress speak in different accents? 8. Why did Rust see that giant vortex inside 'Carcosa'? 9. Why did neither Rust nor Marty ever Google 'The Yellow King' in 20 years? 10. Why were there people gathering in the woods to do whatever they were doing? 11. Everyone assumes the ritual murders were "Satanic"... this is repeated a few times. Or we assume voudon or some such. But what was it actually? ***Just to name a few things!***

To strengthen the connection to the Yellow King mythos and Carcosa, it's important to know the location of the Lost City of Carcosa. Across the lore, Carcosa exists amongst the stars near the star Aldebaran and the Hyades Star Cluster. In our show, at key moments, we are shown the night sky -- specifically the constellations Taurus and Orion. The constellations Taurus and Orion contain the Hyades Star Cluster and Aldebaran. (for real) In this episode, we are shown these constellations when Rust's face is reflected in the hospital window, when Rust "hallucinates" the vortex amongst the stars, and most importantly, at the end we get a long, sustained shot of exactly those stars while the credits are rolling. So why are they clearly emphasizing the importance of those constellations wherein lies the fabled location of lost Carcosa? It's obviously intentional -- as is everything in this show. There's a ton of fascinating implications -- this 'world behind the world' part of this show is the thing that keeps some people coming back again and again.

I was thinking he looked a bit Jesus-like as Marty helped him walk away from the hospital.

How do I always forget about Rust's words about his daughter??? So so beautiful and heart breaking yet hopeful. This series is a MASTERPIECE in every aspect.

A bit of a puzzle: Rust's full name is Rustin Spencer Cohle. When I saw this name written out, a couple of embedded words jumped out at me. The name Rustin Spencer Cohle contains the words TRUE HOLINESS. It's not a perfect anagram -- there are a few extra letters (if anyone likes puzzles I'd love to know what you make of it... I've never wrestled with the few remaining bits...yet). But that seems a wild coincidence! In a show called True Detective! If anyone figures out the entire anagram, for gods sake, PLEASE TELL ME! 😂

1:23 I think they're suggesting he got some of the paint on his ears b/c they were sticking out, so that's why she saw green ears.
