I would love to watch Taco or Frank react to Lost. It would honestly be great to see them react to something together on zoom! :)

I honestly don't think Cobel flipped. She just wants everyone to burn. Also appreciate the casting director of the entire series. So many shows cast super attractive actors who kill the realism for an office or a family setting. Even the "attractive" people in Severance are haggard and unappealing, or the office dress is just wrong enough to compromise their looks. Mark and Gemma are the only traditional looking actors, and even Mark is worn. But their appearance in contrast to everyone else really highlights them as the focus.

Near the end of the opening credits, that image of Cobel looking down at a patch of grass (looks like she's holding a book) and her face is all light . . Quite the Easter egg now that we know what we know!

Around the 45:00 mark, these podcasters replay some S1 scenes and discuss them with the new context. It's excellent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkOdKn7cf-g

If you take the information that we learn in this episode - about Harmony, about Lumon, about severance - and revisit the Harmony scenes, especially in S1, it provides so much context and a deeper understanding. Especially about reintegration and the company's denial of it, about how Harmony was treated by Lumon (and fired!), and about testing the Mark/Gemma connection.

I think if you watched Lost, the structure of Severance feels familiar. It was an expectation with that show that you would be getting a different character's perspective each week. In some ways I find it more satisfying than getting 10 minutes of each character. It is funny though. I sat through 6 seasons of unanswered questions with Lost and was never as frustrated as with this show. I wonder if that was because it came out weekly and was before the binge culture we have now.

I am going to have a lot of trouble trusting Cobel--she is going to have to earn it.

Also, it’s SO realistic that a poor town like Salt’s Neck would be used by a corporation for its resources and indoctrinate its people with religious extremism. It very seriously could be what Lumon has now done with Kier, PE. We saw what it was like before in Gemma’s flashback. Now it’s cold and sterile.

I definitely didn’t have Cobel creating severance on my bingo card, but what a genius twist. It seems she wanted to create it so maybe kids like her wouldn’t have to endure the hell of child labor, or create it to cut her mom’s suffering in half. Then Jame Eagan got ahold of it and used it in a far more sinister way.

Taco, you should watch the scenes at the end. They don't give spoilers, but they often explain little details from the episode.

I'm inferring that Hampton may die to protect Cobel. The fear in her eyes as she says his name before she peels out.
