ARRIVAL MOVIE REACTION

ARRIVAL MOVIE REACTION

Comments

I would love to see a reaction to Cloud Atlas! It’s a movie that people either love or hate and I love it.

Joan Plesa

I loved this reaction, it's such a good movie it's definitely one to rewatch and catch more stuff that you may have missed the first time. I haven't checked out your other movie reactions yet because I'm relatively new but if you haven't already can you do a movie reaction to Cloud Atlas it's one of my favorite movie's and it has a similar vibe. It's not about aliens but It's multiple stories in one movie and how they are interconnected. If you haven't seen it or already reacted to it definitely consider it for a future movie reaction.

Rae

Of course I would like to hear it. 😀

Myra

I like this, i have a counter theory if you are interested in hearing it

Raymond Walker

Loved you reaction to this great film...thanks, FT ;) And absolutely not should a part 2 be made. It would never match the perfection of the original. You didn't touch on it but I also like how Louise wrote the book on the language of the Heptapods to share with humanity. This was important because the rest of humanity will have the ability to learn the language and see time like the aliens. Thus evolving humans to become what the Heptapods need them to be in order to get the assistance they need. Humanity wouldn't be able to help them in our current states because obviously we aren't as evolved. Thinking about time in the way they do would totally change humanity. It's mind-boggling to try to comprehend how.

I think I like the story better if we imagine she had a choice, and chose to love her daughter even if it hurt, and cost her marriage. I think she didn’t tell Ian because she didn’t want to risk him saying no… which is maybe a bit selfish but ultimately understandable. With the way her mind works, I’m hoping it feels like her daughter is always with her ❤️

Valaree

I definitely understand her choice to have her daughter anyway, I’m just not sure about Ian not knowing beforehand, as in when they got together, and they both experienced the aliens together, and he knows she got the weapon, how did he also not know that time wasn’t linear for her and ask a million questions or maybe he said he didn’t want to know? I don’t know making an opinion of her decision also has to take in a lot of assumptions. Obviously he didn’t know and she told him when Hannah was young. Considering it all has just made me take the whole thing at face value and see the beautiful/bittersweet nature of it. I’d love to know your thoughts!

Amanda Hill

Taco, you're brilliant, how quickly you came up with the solution. 😮 I didn't know this movie before either. I thought it was just a mainstream movie about aliens. I didn't expect it to go in this direction. Great movie! I watched it spellbound. 🤗 One question, in case anyone knows: was her daughter born with the disease because she had taken off her protective equipment so that she could communicate with the aliens?🤔 It was feared that she had been exposed to radiation as a result, but the human doctors couldn't find anything.

Myra

But in all seriousness, it’s one of my favorite films too. Tho I have to say, watching it for the first time, I didn’t start to figure things out until much later so I was flabbergasted by the reveals lol. It’s true that watching it for the first time is special. I think the universal message of this movie is so precious and I’m happy that Villeneuve decided to make this movie. It seems like a reverse tale of Babylon but with aliens, and whoever pitched that is a genius. At the same time, I’m not sure how this movie would resonate nowadays, in today’s climate of division. I’m also not sure that even with the universal language we can hold ourselves together for 3000 years until these aliens need our help. Maybe we’ll end up in the world of Dune by that point. But I guess humanity came around if aliens decided it was worth it to come on Earth and leave this knowledge. Still, I think it’s great that the idea of unity and cooperation was expressed in such a heartfelt and elegant way, in a sci-fi movie of all genres. It’s a very special project.

AAAAAHHH I love this film so much! I give it a re-watch every few years, and it moves me just as much every time. The beauty of human life is always worth creating and preserving, despite the miscommunication and violence our inability to empathise might foster. Hannah is a beautiful miracle despite the brevity of her existence because she is alive and human, experiencing the world for just an instant in the continuum of it all. She is worth it, despite Louise's eventual pain, because the love she knew she would have for her transcended time to the point that it saved the world. It was Louise's love and her understanding of General Shang's love for his wife that cut through humanity's fear and paranoia. Favourite Villeneuve film, hands down.

Vince

OMG I feel like this reaction is just for me, I’m the audience haha. Thank you for reacting!

Mary

Question for my fellow Arrival enjoyers: What do you think of Louise’s choice to have her daughter, despite knowing what she knew? Was she able to choose differently? Was she being selfish by not telling Ian what would happen, and what it would cost? Was she just making herself into the person she needed to be to save the world?

Valaree

The first time I saw this movie the end made me cry. This time, knowing what comes, the beginning made me cry. Rewatching this movie teaches you what it feels like to speak Heptapod, just a little.

Valaree

Yeah, It's why I always have both Chrome and Firefox on my computers. Because if something doesn't work in one, there's almost always a fix or it's not a problem in the other.

Dark Kuno

Now that's a pro IT tip..thanks big dawg 🙏🏿

Raymond Walker

I enjoyed this movie and give it a re-watch every few years. BTW, there's an extension in Firefox called NP Enhanced that disables the annoying X-Ray functions on Amazon videos (and some of the similar annoyances on Netflix, Disney+/Hulu and others). Just a friendly tip from your local IT Guy ;)

Dark Kuno

Enjoy😁

Raymond Walker

I was REALLY hoping this was it! My favorite movie of all time. Can’t wait to watch.

Amanda Hill

AHHHHH I can't wait to watch it!!!

Interesting interpretation on your part about inhabiting different realities. Considering that what we think of as "reality" is just information that is filtered through our limited perception, I see "the gift" as having another sense beyond the ones we have, and gaining the ability to percieve something that was always there but couldn't access. Almost in the way that certain birds, and insects, like bees can perceive the ultraviolet light around us that we can't see without special instruments. In a way, those animals live in a different reality. Neat stuff to think about.

Lisette Agosto
