IWTV S2 EP1 REACTION

IWTV S2 EP1 REACTION

Comments

Daniel is my favorite character him calling Armand Sha Rukh Khan this episode makes me laugh every time. And how he uses his bitchy behavior to aggravate vampires into giving him the real story and asking the right questions is my favorite part of the show.

tyler garner

I adore the way you connect with Louis so much, your understanding of his character is awesome to watch unfold.

Aquielle

Lestat and Louis cannot talk telepathically because Lestat is Louis’ creator :) So it’s all in Louis’ head.

Helen

Addendum to the bird motif: I forgot/just remembered to add the scene from S1E5 where Louis thinks Claudia is on a hunger strike! He purposefully breaks the birds' wings and chucks them into her room. Which could be seen as a metaphor for how Louis acts (chaining himself to a situation that he knows is not good for him but can't find a good alternative for) and for how Claudia feels (like a bird in a cage, unable to escape). Can't believe I missed that scene in my initial comment.

Maria

So fun fact about this episode specifically/series in general. This ep is written by Hannah Moscovitch, who’s one of the executive producers and lead writers, and she’s an absolute POWERHOUSE of a playwright in the Canadian theatre scene. One of her breakout plays was East of Berlin, which is about the aftermath of WW2 and the holocaust, so this episode’s setting and themes are completely up her alley. She’s also super talented with dialogue and while she’s credited with writing or co-writing 5 episodes through both seasons, you can hear her “voice” throughout the series. As a Canadian theatre nerd, gotta plug our girl Hannah. Her next co-writing credit is S2E5. No spoilers but iykyk. 👀

Natasha

Think of it this way. If you were an out in the boonies in a tiny village full of superstitious people who were about to kill your girlfriend wouldn't you call out to anyone who you thought might have a clearer view of the situation (beyond superstition) to help you convince said villagers not to kill your girlfriend. Louis doesn't need vampire super powers to help Morgan and Emilia. Whether or not he would have been successful, he could have spoken up, he could have tried to help. I think the point of the scene is that he could have tried to help but he didn't.

xylophanes

Yes that last scene with Louis and Claudia with the hard words and soft words is one of my favorite scenes of the series! I shed a tear too.

Ashley

Just subscribed! It’s such a treat to watch you react to this series! Can’t wait for the upcoming episodes!

Cristal Marie

👏👏👏 every single word you wrote. They need to turn more than one therapist bc they're all fucked up! 😂😂 And I love them all because of it.

Melissa

Sorry, I now see I got ahead of myself when I tried to clarify for Martin. Deleted!

Kim

Thank you that’s so nice of you to say! The bird imagery is actually my favorite motif so far (even though I have a couple others) and I'm looking forward to seeing if it sticks around for season 3 and what kind of twist and turns it takes if it does! Yes, the parallels between Louis/Lestat/Claudia are always very interesting. And I totally agree that Louis shows the same kind of cold avoidance of dealing with the simmering anger not just in the seven years that Claudia was gone but for all of the six years that Lestat was begging for forgiveness. As Lestat said in S1E6, "this silence is cruel and you have never been cruel" which is an interesting take in and of itself, because from my point of view, Louis had been cruel quite a few times by that point. I also think it is fascinating to see how Louis and Lestat both, directly and indirectly, influenced Claudia's behavior because it shows how much of a parent/child dynamic actually existed. It shows how much they didn't just live together as a family but that they did raise her, as her parents. While there are a million and one Lestat/Claudia parallels that come to mind (S1E4 "Who does she take after again?") but I always think the parallels between Louis/Claudia are much more subtle and maybe for that reason are easier to miss. And not to excuse or justify any of Lestat's behavior during the fight in S1E5 because it was simply not acceptable, I can't help but feel for him. Because when I try to put myself in his shoes and imagine my partner dismissing, ignoring, or disregarding everything that has to do with my person for seven years while Lestat (in his mind) tries everything to engage him and make him want to live outside of Claudia, just to be told that all of these efforts were worthless - that he is worthless- because Louis is leaving him anyway. I would feel so hurt and angry that I get how this fight escalated so quickly. And Lestat is impulsive so it often feels to me like the fight was a knee-jerk reaction that he later on unsuccessfully tried to de-escalate when he said "Let's stop this. You don't want to fight like this anymore. I'm trying to restrain myself". But as I said before that makes it in no way acceptable or okay. Both Louis and Lestat are assheads in their own way and really should see a therapist for their respective trauma. All of the vampires should really. Can't believe that they haven't turned a therapist (as far as we know) or that not one of them decided to study psychology with all the time they have at their hands since I feel like they all would really benefit from that.

Maria

Wow! I've never put the bird imagery and dialogue together before nor have I noticed the bird/throat??!! Maybe it's bc the scene is so dark or my mind dismissed it. Anyway, thank you for that. I love when shows do that kind of threading of symbols or motifs. ** also, your commentary about Claudia's not really talking to Louis and holding in this anger and resentment exactly parallels what Louis did to Lestat while Claudia was gone for 7 years. He became totally withdrawn, hoarding shit, paying Lestat no mind, etc. Yet, Lestat stays and stays. But the way that Louis reconciles this coldness with Claudia is so real and earned as opposed to how Lestat reacts with violence.

Melissa

I watched him at your rec. Man, he was so passionate about episode 5. Loved it.

Melissa

I really didn't like Claudia much in the books even though I understood the role of the character. I LOVE CLAUDIA in the series. They made changes that add so much to the narrative.

Melissa

I think we can also assume what she's dreaming (nightmare) about, so her denial to herself of the ability to dream may help her psychologically push that memory of Bruce down down down.

Melissa

Totally agree. This scene and the confessional scene in episode 1. Brilliant.

Melissa

Kim, specifically your reply to Martin.

Melissa

PLEASE DELETE. SPOILER.

Melissa

And the cinematography and MUSIC in that "you and me" scene. Breathtaking.

Melissa

I find the evolution of Dreamstat fascinating from his first appearance onward ... that alone says so much about Louis and his feelings.

Melissa

another great reaction video and i’m so glad that you’re finally on season two. it only gets crazier from here. love the question you made at the beginning about louis’ unconditional love towards claudia. i think that Louis saw her as his redemption and a way to fill this void from lost family, but i don’t think she was forever solely that type of concept to him. People can be ideas to you for a certain time before really getting to know them, but then when you really spend time with them and grow to love them in your own way, it grows beyond that. In that moment when Louis is narrating, he’s narrating it as he saw it at the time, but I doubt he still sees her as only that in Dubai. Again, he definitely failed her at times and begged Lestat to turn her before knowing who she was, without her consent, and flung her into a fragile household. But I think that unconditional love does exist on Louis’ part, but your take is definitely just as valid and definitely made me think about it bc I never questioned Louis’ words on that. “he real suave though” about armand is so accurate lol. his proper intro scenes into s2 i just love and he’s working that fit!!! “there’s something up with motherfucking armand” LOL. i feel validated though bc no one ever points out how needlessly weird armand is sometimes, especially this episode. i think we’re all charmed by his good looks and nice accent though so i somewhat get it! “she still feels that connection [with lestat] in him, but how is he supposed to kill that connection off?” so succinctly put. she’s asking for something impossible. that’s part of the reason louis didn’t want to run away with her the first time, told her that he’d just “hold her back.” but at the end of the day, it came down to life or death, claudia or lestat. and louis ends up in this dilemma bc he clearly can’t live without lestat, but he also can’t live without claudia. — honestly since episode six season one where you talked about much you hated where louis was at and how sad his storyline was, i KNEW, I KNEW. i knew you would love that final scene with louis’ monologue in this first episode of season two. you feel and hear the growth in louis, you see him more willing to put his own demons away to be there for claudia, to keep her on her feet, and comfort her and be HONEST with her, even if that honesty is brutal. it’s such a satisfying moment. my favorite scene tbh. it’s so delightful to see louis be there for claudia in the way that she needed, especially bc i think louis, many times, beats himself up for how he failed her, and in that moment, he can pivot from that and really be the person who picks her up from her melancholy. he embodied exactly what she desperately needed. now, i can finally say in vague that you might enjoy bits and pieces of louis’ storyline this season. and that’s all i will say on that. i know we saw him in the dumps almost all of last season, and at times that’s what we expect, but there’s a lot more to louis this season that i believe you’ll pick up on. your read on him is always so good. but i also understand that certain things this season may be confusing asf for a while 😭😭 a little bit more on that scene though — i remember commenting about this on frank’s channel when he posted his reaction about lestat’s appearance in that scene. something about it is just so sad. Frank said that what louis told Claudia is all lestat had ever wanted to hear from louis, and it 100% made that scene even more emotional in my mind. yes, i think part of that scene is to uplift claudia and show that pact louis makes at the beginning of the season, which is the most important part in my mind, but it’s also about louis grappling with these two people who tug at him from different sides, as you said. yet a small little part is also words louis never explicitly told lestat, but words lestat yearned to hear. in that scene, lestat’s eyes reflect such a deep sadness, which contrasts his earlier, harsher appearance in the same episode. and we know louis knows lestat always wanted a variation of those words bc lestat said it before — he waited “patiently in vain” for louis to tell him he loved him. but for louis, as it’s been implied, those three words are hard for him to express, especially if we remember that the last time louis ever said “i love you” to anyone was to his brother, paul, right before he killed himself. those words hold extra weight to him now. louis, to me, is a character who most often expresses his love and his actual feelings toward someone through his actions, not his words. and if he ever expresses his love, he expresses it through different words rather than an “i love you.” to me, louis’ “as long as you’re on this earth, i won’t taste the fire” was a way of saying i love you to claudia and uplifting her. but because it’s so hard for him to say those actual words, especially to lestat, lestat’s appearance was the guilt in louis’ conscience especially after how louis betrayed him . even in his last moments, louis didn’t say it and i bet that’s something that really haunts him.

caroline

You definitely did say you liked Delaney. 😂

ArcAngel

My bad, Sweetie. I posted that before I finished watching it, like a doofus! lol 🙄💙

Mizzhoneymy

Huh? I loved her I could of sswore I said that

Raymond Walker

No worries, man. In my opinion, Delaney does a great job as the new Claudia! I hope you eventually feel the same way! 💗

Mizzhoneymy

I replied on your YouTube Lovecraft Country. I didn't think it was fair not to come to Patreon and support.

MJG Story Creation

Gotcha🙏🏿 thank you so much MJG

Raymond Walker

Armand's "disregard" was the mocking of Daniel's saying "disregard" every time he interjects a viewpoint during Louis' story. Red = Communist Uncle Joseph = Joseph Stalin, leader of the Soviet Union. Remember how Lestat said his Maker died.

MJG Story Creation

Yeah, just your camera. It looks like it's just stretched horizontally maybe 10%-15%. I just checked to see if all your videos have it. it looks like it started in your Band of Brothers videos and wasn't stretched in videos before that. I'm a graphic designer so I may just be very sensitive to it lol. If no one else has pointed it out, it might not be super noticeable to others. Glad to help

Jessie

My camera?? Or they footage and thanks Jess stretched hmmm let me double check my cam..thanks jess

Raymond Walker

I agree! It doesn't really spoil anything! For me I know things it alludes to having read the books, but if you haven't there's nothing that will spoil in it. I hope you'll reconsider, Taco!

Tasia Barrett

I got the feeling it had to do with them both being American. Like maybe he expected Louis to be more logical than superstitious about what happened to the woman who was bitten. This is a country with deep lore, so they're less likely to go along with "she just needs medical care." Hope that makes sense.

Melissa

I agree. He should react to the trailer.

Melissa

Ok, so I thought that actually the penthouse belongs to Louis, my w t to go back and look at that again, I believe Louis owns it

Martin Gage

I love this episode so much. Just Louis and Claudia, and all that lies between them, the slow mending of their relationship. Then ending it with that speech is just… perfect. The emotional journey is so good. That scene with Emilia hurts. It feels like a moment showing how Louis has grown more distanced from humanity. He liked Emilia from what we saw, but it’s not enough for him to try and help her.

Mozzlan

My comment has arrived (!) 😂 Only took me nearly 24 hours.

Maria

Yea they let me know 😅😅..thank you though 🙏🏿

Raymond Walker

Don’t know if you know already but they keep saying disregard due to the recording and Armand didn’t want to be in the book or on the record in the beginning . So that was to tell Daniel when writing don’t put that in.

Quanna 🥰

Whaaat??? Say it ain't so, 🌮! I promise the teaser won't spoil season 3. I can't say why, but it has nothing to do with the substantive story in the book. Unless they wildly change the show from the book...which would be unlikely from what we've seen. It would be like if you saw a clip of Louis sitting at the interview table in his brand new penthouse in modern day Dubai, wearing modern fashions, while testing the recording equipment before seeing season 1. It would tell you nothing about the substantive story of season 1. In fact, if anything it would make you think the season was going to be very different than it really was. Anyway... Probably too early for this conversation! 😂

ArcAngel

In the book these zombie vampires are called revenants but Anne Rice never explains what they are. It almost seems as if she’s saying “well, I guess in a savage backward country vampires are also savage and backward”. And Daciana is a totally new character for the show. So I’m really glad that writers added her and gave an explanation for the existence of revenants: if the blood of the vampire is too weak, there is a chance that their fledgling will not become a fully conscious vampire but will transform in a revenant. The revenant we see in the episode is her last “son” so it’s not surprising that he did not turn out well. After this one she was so weak that people she tried to turn simply died (the guy on the floor and another guy on the table). I think this is a part of the reason she threw herself into the fire: her last son died and she couldn’t make a new one meaning that she would remain alone without her children.

Mary

It’s almost the same. You don’t get weird add cuts though.

Mary

Just one thing about AMC is that they'll abruptly start the preview of the next episode before the end credits roll. So you might need to be quick with that pause button at the end of the episode if you don't want some sight spoilers. Hope they stop that in the future 😒

PickleBaron

That story about your foot gave me a full-body shudder! That's so brutal! Really interesting commentary on this one. Thanks for taking the time to to really analyse and try to process. And I agree, Daniel Melloy really is all of us. sidenote, I've been wanting to point this out for a little while— i noticed your reaction camera is slightly warped (stretched horizontally). I'm not sure if it's intentional for copyright issues but just wanted to let you know in case you weren't aware.

Jessie

Thank you Partrice..i really appreciate the kind words 🙏🏿♥️..taco Tuesday would be something 🌮😅😅

Raymond Walker

I was like you when I met Armand. I had to give him the side eye. Now you’re pleasing to look at but idk if I trust you bc you played in my face season 1 lol! But I can’t wait for you to enjoy this s2 ride. Also just as encouragement, I think you are meant for this bc of your insight to understanding characters. And pulling personal experiences just makes it even better. You may not see it now but I do believe this show will be a catalyst for you. I honestly believe your insight snippets should go on TikTok shorts. Think about expanding your social media reach if you haven’t already. I’d be here for FoxTaco Tuesday drops lol. Keep up the good content.

Partrice

🐕🐕

Raymond Walker

Aaawwww thank you so much ☺️

Raymond Walker

I always took it as, in the diary she is definitely expressing opinions about Louis that are hurtful. She also says she doesn't dream. But, she does dream... so maybe she doesn't hate Louis as much as he thought she did.

Nefer Akhen

I'm commenting as I go so maybe you talk about this later, but when Armand said "Unworthy in San Francisco, unworthy in Dubai" and then said "Disregard" he was just being a dick to Daniel lmao, because every time Armand was talking, Daniel said "disregard" into the mic because Armand is "off the record." So he said something and you see Daniel lean forward to say "disregard" and Armand beats him to it

Mia

I adore you for stopping your viewing to answer a call from your Mom. Enjoyed your comments and reactions very much! I love the new Armand & Daniel dynamic. It's hilarious how they both each keep flexing their power over their 'domain'...it's Armand's house, but Daniel's interview. Armand can (and does) have control over sitting where he wants in the dining room and the orders for the staff, but Daniel has control over what makes it into the interview. Daniel also ends up remembering that Armand was present for the first interview in the 70s. As we’ll most likely see this season, I think that the first interview is VERY important to understanding whatever the heck is going on with this possible deception/second interview in Dubai. Real Rashid, as far as we know, is just a regular house-servant (and probably is getting paid a lot of money to go along with all of his boss’s strange requests lol). Daniel is angry at the entire deception, and that I feel is where the tension is coming from this episode. This Armand guy lied to him, both about his identity and his existence in his past, and he doesn’t trust him. And the ending "Hard words. Soft words". Brilliant. I mean you have Louis telling these beautiful words to Claudia, reassuring her, making her understand that he will follow her everywhere. And you have Claudia looking at him, guarded, because he betrayed her once but she wants to believe him still 😭 Then he says if she was the only vampire it would be enough but then we see that Lestat is next to her still. Will this truly be a new beginning??

Kim

Same here. Our taco is my only Patreon because the insight and analysis is just so good. You deserve more views Taco! Edit to add: I found you through FrankFreezy and watch him too. You guys are great

Ms.Mews

I may skip the teaser as I don't want any hints or anything about S3 but we are definitely doing s3

Raymond Walker

100% agree with your assessment and your comment that the speech at the end was as much for Louis as it was Claudia.

Gaica

I'm so excited to see you react to this season! I hope you'll watch/react to the Season 3 teaser! After this season, of course. :)

Tasia Barrett

Yeah and it feels like Louis is trying to convince himself of something he doesn't really feel deep down. He's so conflicted!

ArcAngel

Love those observations! Thank you!! ❤

ArcAngel

Daniel was calling back Louis’s earlier assertion “she wrote it so let’s choose to believe it” regarding her inability to dream. I think Louis had doubts that it was true she couldn’t dream, but knew there was no way to know for certain so he chose to believe what she said until he had proof otherwise. Daniel used the same line against Louis to cast doubt on his insistence that Armand is the love of his life, not Lestat. Claudia wrote it and Louis is unreliable as a source, so Daniel chooses to believe Claudia until proven otherwise. It’s some next-level shade to insist that Louis can’t even be trusted to tell you who he loves reliably.

Valaree

I will personally sculpt Jacob Anderson a fucking Emmy for that performance when he realized Claudia lied about being able to dream.

Jessica

Aahh right right..even still wtf would he expect Louis to do though ..deapertate plea i get it but what was Louis going to do, "lurking in the back" lol..he was lol

Raymond Walker

Very carefully spoiler-free and sticking only to the episode: Maybe it ties into his conversation with Lestat earlier in the episode? Was she worth it? Yes! You say it like you believe it. I do. I do. This is such a low point in their lives. I’m still unsure if he's trying to convince her or himself. Both? Or maybe that look to Lestat is just the acknowledgment that Lestat’s murder changed their relationship. As intensely as he loves Claudia, there may always be guilt for what they did. She might always be disappointed that he didn't do more. They still have to be enough for each other, even with the memory of Lestat choking them out. Or maybe he wants Lestat to hear that Claudia would be enough if she was the last vampire on earth because he asked if she was worth killing him in that earlier conversation. I’ve seen this episode about six times and still can’t decide, but maybe we’re not supposed to know for certain.

Jessica

Morgan calling for help from Louis wasn’t him knowing he was a vampire. It was simply Morgan being desperate for someone to help and Louis was the only English speaker and outside person he’s connected to in a way. And him asking if Louis was a Red, was him asking if Louis was a Russian soldier/communist. Louis journey is so interesting because like you said, his beautiful speech to Claudia shows his awareness and is a good sign for his mental state and their relationship, but at the same time…there’s Lestat, looming in his mind 😭 Armand de Mysterious 😁 definitely a conundrum, but I love seeing Louis in a different relationship, it’s so interesting to see and compare it to him and Lestat. Stark differences here. Also I just love the actor Assad Zaman, seeing more PoC i’m vampire media is always awesome, and he finally gets to shine a bit more this season compared to last when he “Rashid” lurking in the back lol

sierra's reaction corner

FACTS!

Raymond Walker

I am literally turning on my TV right NOW to go check it out! ❤❤❤

ArcAngel

Movieman goes deep! 😂

ArcAngel

Yep! I honestly hate that AMC does this. I feel like if you're paying for the app, why even give us the tv edit? I will say S2 isn't as graphic as S1 was so the differences are subtle.

Natty

Right right right lol thank you Arc 🐕🙏🏿completely slipped my mind

Raymond Walker

Wait...what??? There might be IWTV content I haven't seen??? Holy wow...THANK YOU!

ArcAngel

This is not a spoiler - I always let reactors know that in this season you just need to go with it. You'll get answers but you have to give it time and let things unfold. And how beautiful was the "Me and You. You and Me." moment?

Karen Wood

I enjoy watching movieman101 as well, and yeah there are a lot of great reactors. You’re my favorite because you are very observant and pay attention to little details. Sometimes I feel like some reactors miss what the characters are saying or what they are delivering with their expression.

RÆY

Thank you! I wonder every time I see it if that's the implication or if I'm thinking too much. 😂

ArcAngel

Awww thank you Terri🙏🏿♥️ there's a few really great ones out there Frankfreezy and Movieman101 are both amazing reactors as well

Raymond Walker

Btw, don't forget, we learned last season that Louis and Lestat can't speak telepathically (because Lestat made Louis) so Ive been assuming Lestat must be a projection of Louis subconscious or whatever?

ArcAngel

1000% that's the vibe I was getting but I guess will see how it plays out

Raymond Walker

It's interesting that at one point Daniel specifically says of Claudia's diary, "she wrote it, let's choose to believe it." But then later they make a huge point of showing that Claudia wrote something untrue in her diary (she said she didn't dream but was clearly dreaming). Is that supposed to cast doubt on the reliability of the diary? Or maybe making a larger point about the nature of written history? Or both? Or neither? I dunno but they spent a lot of time making this point, so assuming it meant something important.

ArcAngel

So...question... did it seem like at the end, when Louis was saying, "it's me and you" and he is clearly speaking to Claudia at first, but then Lestat appears and it seemed almost like we were kinda meant to think Louis was also talking to Lestat, too?

ArcAngel

The depth of your insights and your appreciation for this show are deeply appreciated. I have watched many reactions for IWTV but you are the only Patreon I have joined. Thank you!

Terri Matter

Wonderful reaction!! Yay!!! I love Delaney as Claudia, too. In fact, Delaney was the first Claudia to make me really love Claudia this much. Love her acting, her accent, her facility with foreign languages (not perfect but perfectly convincing as an American traveler would be). Love her raspy voice. She just has an endearing quality more than anyone I've ever seen... more than book-claudia, too. Glad you approve 🐕🌮!

ArcAngel

No ma'am just needed a few days to make sure i am as healthy as possible.

Raymond Walker

LET’S GO. I was wondering if you were waiting for Netflix to drop S2. Let’s fucking goooo.

Jessica

🙏🏿gotcha

Raymond Walker

Thank you Amanda, I try my best🙏🏿 glad you're enjoying

Raymond Walker

when he's asking if he's "red" he's asking if he's a communist

Acacia

🥲 thank you Rache..I appreciate that more than you know..there's alot of great reactors out there..I watched Movieman101 I think that's his name and GAAAHHSSDAM was his episode 5 reaction next level..he deserves the world

Raymond Walker

Yesssss! So happy you’re in season 2. Somehow this show just continues to get better. Best writing ever. You really, really get this story. I love watching you pick up on things. I feel like so many people watch these episodes in a vacuum without the reminder we are watching this story unfold through Louis’, Claudia’s, etc. POV. Not intentionally misleading but unreliable narrators nonetheless (which the story is richer for). I love how this episode brings viewers back into the story with those reminders in place. For real cannot wait to watch you continue on! I clicked on this SO fast.

Amanda Hill

you are definitely my favorite iwtv reactor

RÆY

🤣🤣🤣🤣we're on the same page as always lol

Raymond Walker

Ohhh nooooooooo...I'll switch fir the rest of the season..thank you 🙏🏿

Raymond Walker

Also FYI on AMC+ there's Interview With the Vampire: Uncut that shows the unedited version. The regular IWTV, you're watching the made for TV edit .

Natty

Please don’t read comments about Armand on YT. People will spoil all of it to you.

Mary

My boy is a treasure, we just have to be patient with him! 😂❤️‍🔥

Victoria

Ooooh my afternoon just got better!! Can't wait 😁

Natty

🐕🐕🐕😅😅

Raymond Walker

Let's gooo!!! 🌮🌮🌮

ArcAngel

🙏🏿all good take your time

Raymond Walker

I‘m so excited! I‘m gonna watch it tomorrow and then edit my comment :) Edit: I have been waiting for you to watch season 2 since I first saw your reaction to S1E1. Like I finished that reaction video, binge watched all of your other reaction videos on YouTube, joined Pateron to watch the full versions and the last to episode of season 1 and then just waited like a hungry lion for more. I’m sorry I haven’t been commenting on any of the episodes in season 1 but I agreed with some many of your takes that I felt like if I start talking I will spoil everything because I will want to add onto things you've already said and because I read the books and watched season 2 already I just couldn’t risk it. But I have been practising not spilling the beans and now that you have at least a baseline of knowledge and a more or less fully fledged out opinion of the characters I feel like not every word I say is automatically a landmine, so I’m hopefully much more chill about comments now. Shout out to you and your mom, I love that you paused and picked up and told her that she looked pretty. It was just such a short and sweet interaction. Thank you for leaving that in. I actually kind of want to know what he said to you while simultaneously really not wanting to know because it seems awful. And I don’t want you to have had to hear it or repeat it or write it. I don’t really get wanting to be in the military and I most certainly do not like what I have heard about the way people (especially higher ups) treat other people and while I get the intention behind the lesson, I feel like there should be other ways to teach that lesson. I also would be really interested in why you chose to join the military and what made you want to stick around even though you had experiences like that. So if you ever feel like sharing or just want to rant about it in general (like you wanted during the Jonah/Louis conversation in S1E3 ) then please go for it. I was also so blessed to get to watch both your and FrankFreezy’s reaction back-to-back which made me a very happy person today. I can’t wait for your discussion videos I’m really very, very excited. It’s gonna be a great, great day. Now for the episode, I loved how spellbound you were by the recap of season 1, on multiple occasion I was like, “I think he wants to say something” and then you didn’t and when you finally stopped the episode to say that you had so much to say, I was like, “I knew it!” and the little gremlin in my heart was very happy about that. But yes, we have already been through a lot and it is only gonna get more interesting from here on out. And let me tell you the math won’t math for a while, while at the same mathing very math-ly. What a sentence, I hate myself for typing it but I don’t wanna delete it, so now we both have to look at it. I agree that the Claudia transition was seamless. I loved Bailey Bass but Delainey Hayes takes over so magnificently that you don’t even have time to miss Bailey because it feels like she is still here, they both just have encompassed Claudia’s spirit and core so brilliantly that the switch doesn’t even really register. Also yes, Claudia definitely manipulated Louis in season 1 but Louis is no fool, he was aware at least partially that both she and Lestat were manipulating him – and the sad thing is they both did it because they loved him and wanted to stay by his side. And then that kind of backfired because he also loved them and subsequently betrayed them both. The “disregard” – war is just Armand and Daniel being little shits to each other and personally I find it hilarious. These two are one of my favorite dynamics and I can’t wait for your take on all of their interactions. The German bit always throws me because German is my mother tongue and usually in English media the German language is kind of butchered pronunciation-wise but it was really, really authentic here. I get where you’re coming from when you say Louis is living in self-pity in the beginning of the episode but I also think if Claudia has been giving him the cold shoulder for four years, barely or not at all talking to him then I get why he might have felt frustrated and disheartened as well. It would drive me nuts like if someone was mad at me I would rather fight about it than have them be like "I’m angry at you but I’m not gonna talk to you about it. I will just be in your vicinity and aggressively not talk about it all the while radiating anger, misery, and discontent". Not saying that Claudia doesn’t have a right to feel that way and as you said she was in action mode but I get where Louis is coming from as well. I really want you and FrankFreezy to do a deep dive into Louis-Lestat’s and Louis-Armand’s relationship at the end of the season because it is so funny to me how differently you two perceive and have perceived both of these relationships right from the get-go. And if you do it at the end of the season, I can say everything I want to say without risking spoilers, which is basically the best possible outcome for me. This brings me to Lestat as we have seen him in this episode, I don’t know if you remember this but there has been a bird theme right from the start. First, there were Paul’s little birds that told him things and then we have Lestat saying to Louis in S1E3 that he was like “a bird refusing flight” and to Claudia in S1E5 that she was “built like a bird”, so I think it is very interesting that when they are talking, we can see a bird taking flight out of Lestat’s cut throat which could either be a hint to Louis losing it (like Paul; and as he said himself he is quite fucked in the head) or that Louis and Claudia took flight through killing Lestat. Either way it’s fascinating in my opinion. I thought it was hilarious that you didn’t realize right away that Claudia meant Bruce with the motherfucker because I didn’t either for like three seconds when I watched the episode for the first time. Subsequently I was confused by the number four since she had only named three people. Because to me, she was saying “Antionette the motherfucker” which would have made Lestat Claudia’s mother which feels accurate in a way since he “birthed” her and she called Louis “Daddy Louis” and so the first time for a couple of seconds I was like, Claudia did you just acknowledge Lestat as your mother? But yeah, glad I’m not alone. To the issue of Morgan asking Louis for help, I don’t think he actually expected Louis to be able to do anything when Emilia was bit, but he was just so desperate that he would have called out to anyone he might be able to count on as an ally against the rest of the people. I also think it was a metaphor in a way. Because Claudia was calling Louis out for seemingly choosing Morgan and Emilia over her (telling them his real name, dancing with Emilia). She actively draws the parallel to him and Lestat in S1E7 so I think in a way it was to show Louis choosing Claudia and also distancing himself from the human world (which he wasn’t able to do in season 1) so to me it is just a tie in to Louis past character arc and the lead up to a new one. (It is also a reference to something that happened in the books). I also cry every time Louis gives Claudia the hard and soft word speech. I really think Claudia needed to hear it, I really think Louis needed to say it. But I sadly also think that neither of them fully believes it. They all really desperately need a hug and a therapist but that’s what Daniel is for (at least the therapist part, I’m not sure how he feels about hugs).
