Getting ready for Awe
Added 2023-05-21 10:04:21 +0000 UTCHello Patreons,
We are flying out to Santa Clara on Friday and getting everything ready for the trip. We'll be building a suit in the local maker space MakerNexus. Super excited about the show but got to admit, daunted by the task.
I think it's important we try and get as many industry people in the suit as possible. This is a little worrying as the design is still a prototype, plus anything you strap yourself into and move in unusual ways could cause injury, so we need to be up front to anyone who wants a go. I'd like your thoughts on this.
In terms of show design, I'm planning on underlining our home-made, open-source nature, and will be taking the off-cuts of the plywood sheet to clutter the stand and maybe printing out some sketchbook drawings to pin up.
We'll have two large screens on the stand. One playing a showreel of split-screen clips explaining the project and one showing cast footage from the headsets we'll be using, so stand visitors get to see both realities.
I've built an environment in Pop One we'll use for people trying on the suit. It has good flying physics already and we can invite others to come in and meet us on the stand. We're also working on a Unity environment which might be able to be converted into a VRChat room, but not sure this will be done in time.
I'd like to invite you all to come and meet in the Pop One room on Wednesday at 8PM BST (london). I'll send a room invite number then and will be in the suit to welcome you if you can make it.
