Trials tried and errors made: Half a year in review
Added 2023-03-18 20:53:54 +0000 UTCAugust 2022 was the launch of Trial & Error.
We had a new server, and an even newer community behind it.
From the get-go we've been dead-set focused on improving the in-game experience, whether it be on the front-end with community-building, or on the server back-end with cool new shiny features.
Trial & Error has evolved over time with back-end developments and improvements funded by our Patreon supporters.
Half a year in review:
September 2022
SquadJS / Battlemetrics / Ticket Tool implementation
Our initial priority was to lay the foundation of our future automation systems.
October 2022
Automatic seeding whitelisting system
Server seeding is an arduous but necessary; our first project was to build a system to reward seeders with whitelist, hassle free and fully automatic.
November 2022
Automatic Patreon whitelisting
Previously, Patreon whitelisting was done manually by server admins; we have completely streamlined our system to an easy-to-use and intuitive interface.
December 2022
Squad-based team balancing system
In response to concerns of teamstacking and steamrolls; we devised an in-house balancer that keeps squads and friend-groups together while enhancing gameplay through selective team balancing.
January 2023
Map-vote rotation system
Replacing our old map rotation; our in-house map-vote is built around rotations and blacklisting to minimize on map repetition and maximize variety.
Feburary 2022
Permanent dedicated server (i9 13900k + DDR5 RAM)
In response to server performance degradation with the v4.2 update, we migrated our server to the best performance we can afford.
Expected to last the entire lifetime of T&E, this transition was made possible by the overwhelming support of our dedicated Patreons.
Future projects coming down the pipeline
Patreon tier system overhaul
Squad-based team balancing improvements
Server network optimizations
Comprehensive in-game stat tracking
Iterative improvement is a never-ending process in Trial & Error as we seek to try out new things and learn from our ways.
Thanks to the support of our Patreon supporters, we are still net-positive in terms of long-term sustainability, even with our server performance upgrade.
All excess funds from our Patreon supporters are invested into our Technical staff team to develop new features and automation systems.
