Fury vs. Usyk: The Big Preview
Added 2024-05-15 19:27:35 +0000 UTCHow could I not devote a huge chunk of my waking hours this week to producing a near three-hour podcast all about one fight?! How could I not enlist some heavy hitters to talk about the biggest fight we will see all year?
Well luckily for you, I did, as Rob Tebbutt of Boxing News and the boys from the Heavy Hands podcast helped me out trying to figure out just how this super-fight will play out.
There's little point saying much else here as there's a LOT said in this episode: Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk will be upon us sooner than you manage to listen to this behemoth of an episode I expect. So enjoy the fight. As fights like these don't come around often.

Thanks! If you want to hear me as guest, I covered the fight on this weeks Heavy Hands too and we managed to hit some different talking points (somehow!)

2024-05-16 15:07:45 +0000 UTCThat’s great mate, thanks for sharing. I think I’ve seen more people with a genuine connection to these fighters than any fight I can think of in recent memory. Maybe it’s because I have friends who got into boxing a similar time, or there are a lot of people who just happened to follow the majority of both of these fighters careers but people seem invested in BOTH of them in a way we didn’t see for Mayweather-Pacquiao (where battle lines were clearly drawn in most cases and you had ‘your’ guy)

2024-05-16 13:39:46 +0000 UTCFucking brilliant mate! Taking me on a journey and making me feel old going through their resumes 😂. Love the comparisons of usyks start of HW run to furys. Fun story: I knew the late great Michael Murray a lovely bloke and self admitted journeyman and briefly trained under him around 2008ish, fought John fury and lost (unfortunately) but never let the fact he beat the man who beat Mike tyson: Kevin mcbride. Mike told me to look out for John's son, a tall awkward heavyweight by the name of Tyson coming through. Became a fan early THEN became privy to a Ukrainian boxer named usyk. Years later loma was killing it but I'll never forget my uncle saying, usyk will be a HW loma but better. Over an hour in now, making me go through the old fights in anticipation for Saturday. Looking forward to your prediction at the end! I'm going Fury but genuinely love both of them and may the best man win!

2024-05-16 11:59:45 +0000 UTCAre you on about Audrey’s BBC deal? He was just bloody disappointing wasn’t you. I loved him after the Olympics but at 12 I didn’t really understand the dynamic at play between the amateur scene at the time and the pros. I was convinced Audley was destined for greatness lol! But how incredible was the Sprott KO lol

2024-05-16 10:04:38 +0000 UTCReally enjoyed this episode. Feels like a proper history lesson about both fighters and how they've got where they are. I wish this was done by the promoters! Also, I'd love to hear more on your thoughts about Audley and Price. I always wondered whether he had potential especially after his sweet ITV deal - I remember being very excited when he had his first fight on it and was thoroughly disappointed.
