Is Subriel Matias the scariest fella in boxing?
Added 2023-12-07 20:53:35 +0000 UTCAs the title suggests, this episode will be a deep-dive into the recent clash between 140lb knockout artists Subriel Matias (the IBF light-welterweight champ, now 20-1, 20KOs) and heavy-handed Uzbek southpaw Shohjahon Ergashev (now 23-1, 20KOs) and why the champ from Puerto Rico is one of the more terrifying fighters in world boxing. If you haven't seen the fight I highly recommend you check it out here
Also a brief look at some bigger lads.

Glad you liked it! I hope with my own analysis I did make the case for Matias being more sophisticated

Collapsing the distance with a high guard to catch straight shots, spamming left hooks over the southpaw shoulder, and timing those really well. I might be projecting a little, but I did feel like he was able to get a sense of Ergashev's rhythm and attack him at his points of rest or interrupt his combos. Guess what I'm trying to say is that this performance from Matias did feel a bit more sophisticated than Margarito's usual knuckle dragging style. But I do see the immediate comparisons in terms of their attritive, bruising offense. Great fight and great episode!
