Story: I started out asking for some input and giving some info about the upcoming Lauren Southern talk. It sucks to know that I can't have the kind of conversation that I want to with her- one completely focused on her approach to debate. I think that touching on her controversy hurts rapport with her and turns up tension, furthermore without an all-out debate on the positions, I think it only gives her an opportunity to do more spinning of them. Even at the time of posting this, after collecting all the stuff I need to comment on and mixing that with the questions about topics I'm interested in, I'm confronted with quite the task. To accomplish both what I want to do and what the audience wants me to do, is impossible to do well (at least from my POV). I think all that I can do is make my approach to both sections clever, sharpen the questions a bit, then do a follow-up stream where we get more into my opinions about her & her past. From my perspective, changing Lauren's mind is a huge task and one that really doesn't interest me (we've talked before on stream about how convincing extremists isn't something I go for). I think that if her and I were able to talk in private, I may be able to chip away at it, but asking about those positions in the way I'm currently planning to, wouldn't be the way to go. All I can really do is indicate to my audience that I understand the issues with her and that I disagree with her- as well as make clear to her audience, that I don't subscribe to her beliefs. I'm currently shooting for a mix of uncovering her positions / thought process, whilst trying to tie that back to her positions and the issues with them. I have a section where we speedrun the bad shit she's done that people focus on, then I'll transition into the things I want to discuss, looking for opportunities to turn back to those previously mentioned, sketchy positions.
After that, I wanted to chip away at this nasty bottle of whiskey I got from a local grocery store. I wanted to do "Just One Game" and make people a bit more familiar with the "Re-Roll an Opinion" idea as well. It would seem that a league stream would kill two birds with one stone, then some silliness ensued!
Regardless of how the Southern stream goes, my hope is that future one-on-ones will be easier to prep and navigate. I'd really like to make that a more regular part of the stream, the same way it was before.
