The bass in the song has a heavily distorted but warm body; it has a strong graininess. The bass instrument I use here is the flatwood bass from OrangeSample. For the distortion. I tried to recreate it from Saturn 2 first, and I couldn’t quite get it to sound right, but luckily I found this Boogex from Voxengo. This is a free guitar amplifier plug-in with a variety of sound shaping features. It is easy to get a heavy, distorted sound as well as a slight "jazzy" saturation sound. So I add it to the bass and turn off the Cabinet Sim and Stereo Reverb first, because that's too muffled.
For the amp mode, the difference between these modes is that they create different harmonies. So I would like to set amp mode to 12-MEDIUM or 11-Bright here; both can provide a fuzzy graininess in mid-hight with the warm low body. And give it 43 dB gain on Drive to get that heavy distortion. and boost a bit on Lo and Hi.
Back in the Emphasis EQ, you can do this first; it depends on your workflow. It creates the distortion you want by controlling what and how much frequency. Because the distortion is first and mainly created by the low part frequency, when you distort too much and without control, the new frequecy created by the low will squeeze the sound, and that's why sometimes when you lower the distortion, the sound gets louder instead. And then I add a high pass filter around 65 Hz and -4.6 dB gain at 245 Hz, and it instantly gets fatter. So when you want to use a heavy distortion, remember that EQ is not just a balance thing; it is also a sound shaper.
10:14 Car Difting
For this type of sound effect, you need to think through the ideas and how this sound will be. This is a car drifting sound, so it will be like:
1. a fast gain in volume, followed by a slow decrease;
2. high pitch, but difficult to discern, and followed by a similarly slow down;
3. In the spectrum, the high frequencies come in first, while the low frequencies come in slowly.
4. The sound content is harsh and chaotic.
So I start with a saw wave, set the VCA envelope to 75 ms attack, 2.23 s decay, and 0 ms sustain. and modulate 14% coarse with ENV 3 (5 ms attack, 3.3 s decay).
Add a lot of unison to make it pitch-blur and give it some spatiality.
Set filter to highpass24, cutoff to 830 h, and reso to 0.1. Modulate a -25% cutoff with ENV 2 (670 ms attack, 4.5 s decay).
Then bring another wavetable in, any waveform but the same setting; just make it sound discordant. and add a noise sound in UTILITY engine to make the treble a bit harsher.For maximum excitation, I use a 100% wet hard clip with 20 dB gain in the FX. Also, to make it sound farther away, I added a huge reverb. Cut the high and low ends off.

How did you make the Arp for this one? Did you program it before using the plugin?
