Patreon fee changes from 18th December

As you will all now be aware Patreon have changed the way it charges it's fees and am not sure if the new way is better or worse, only time will tell.

Basically as you will see from my main Patreon page I spell out how much I receive from the monthly pledges, I get hit with a lot of fees.  I don't mind this at all, I have always been happy to pay the fees, I get charged the Patreon fee, the credit card fee and then the currency conversion fee from Paypal and their fee, what is left is mine (after tax).

Now however Patreon is charging you guys for the fee so that I will get the full 95% from your donation.  They say this will make things better for the creators as I will know exactly how much I will get each month.  They are right about the last bit, I will now know exactly how much I will get which is very helpful indeed.  I will also get a bit more each month which is also good as that is the whole point of Patreon.

They also say it's better for donators as they now know exactly how much of their money I will be getting, for example a $1 donation will now give me exactly $0.95 where as before it was giving me something like $0.70 HOWEVER it will now cost the donator $1.37 to donate $1 

Now I am sure that a lot of people will not be too bothered by this as they are now able to see their creators get more from their pledge which is a good thing but for me there is one HUGE issue.  Patreon are pocketing way more money for doing NOTHING!  They currently charge one flat fee for all donations but this new change will see them charge the flat fee on each donation which will make them a ton of money.

Now I love Patreon as it's saved so many artists from going down, I was one of them after the Youtube advertising crash and I still think it's a great way to support creators as the payout percentage is very good @ 95%  This new change will mainly effect the $1 & $2 pledges from people that support multiple creators, it will be very minor to most other pledges.  Saying that it's still wrong the way they are doing this and I along with many other creators are writing to Patreon in the hope they will reconsider this and continue charging us creators the fee and not our donators.  The change does not come until 18th so there is still time for them to "U Turn"

If it does go through then I fully understand if some people lower their pledge, money is very tight these days and I for one do not want people to feel uncomfortable with their pledge.  I just wanted you guys to know my feelings on this change, I know Patreon need to earn money, they do a great service and offer us many tools to help our channel.  I for one could not survive without it.  I just think the way Patreon have gone about all this is a bit shit, they should have just said we need more money so...
