A healing divine beast that looks like a cow...? It's the Medicine Beast!　癒やしの神獣は牛みたい…？　薬獣！

Today, I’m bringing you a new entry in the *Youkai Pinup Encyclopedia*!

Thanks to the support I receive here, I was able to purchase more youkai reference materials again this month.
Among them, one particularly fascinating youkai (or perhaps a mythical beast?) caught my attention in a book titled **Complete Compendium of Chinese Youkai** (*中国妖怪大全*), so I decided to turn it into a youkai girl and introduce her to you!

From ancient Chinese mythology comes the **Medicine Beast (薬獣)**! What kind of youkai could it be…?

According to a text called *Gong Chuang Si Zhi* (*芸窓私志*), during the mythological age of China—specifically the era of Shennong(神農)—a creature known as the “Medicine Beast (薬獣)” was offered as tribute from a nation (or tribe) called the Baimin (白民).

The Medicine Beast has the power to cure illness using medicinal herbs.

If a sick person gently strokes the beast’s head and whispers the words taught by the Baimin, the beast will step outside and return with medicinal herbs.
These herbs can then be grated into juice or brewed into a decoction, and drinking it is said to *always* cure the illness.

The Medicine Beast is described as having a body similar to a cow, and it even wears a hat and clothing.
Since it already has some human-like traits, I thought, “This would be easy to anthropomorphize into a youkai girl!”
And so, I transformed it into a cute cow-themed Chinese-style nurse youkai!

In the world of *Anime-Tamae!*, Medicine Beasts (薬獣) could exist as an entire race of youkai.
This particular girl seems a bit cheeky and emotionally reserved!
It might be fun to have her interact with *Masingi*, the healing snake I introduced at the start of this year.

For this illustration, I’ve also created a version that includes the names of shrine parishioners who have generously supported me here and other platforms.

『芸窓私志』という書物によると、中国の神話時代――神農の時に、白民という国家（または民族）から「薬獣」という動物が献上されたそうです。
薬獣には薬草で病を治す力があります。

病人がこの獣の頭を撫でて、白民に教わった言葉をささやくと、薬獣は屋外に出て薬草を持ち帰ります。
この薬草をすりおろし汁にするか煎じて飲むと、病は必ず治るそうです。

薬獣の体は牛に似ており、帽子をかぶって衣服も着ているそうです。
もともとちょっと人間っぽい幻獣なので、これは妖怪娘として擬人化しやすそうだな～！　というわけで、可愛い牛系チャイナナース妖怪に仕立ててみました。

『あにめたまえ！』世界の薬獣は、妖怪種族として複数存在しそう。
この子はちょっと生意気でテンション低めっぽいですね！
今年のはじめに紹介した癒やしの蛇・マシンギと共演したりしても面白いかもしれません。
