Some Personal News: We’re Breaking Up

Don’t worry — we’re not consciously uncoupling from each other (yet). But after a year and a half and something like 130 episodes, we’ve decided to leave our current home for premium content and move our whole operation over to Substack.
We know, we know: It sounds crazy. We can’t transfer paid memberships from Patreon so we’re going to have to rebuild this entire project from scratch. It’s a big, annoying task, and something of a risk given how well things have been humming along to this point.
So why on earth would we do such a thing?
There are a bunch of reasons. One is dissatisfaction with Patreon’s website, which is buggy, inflexible, and which has been a big headache for us and some of our subscribers since the beginning. Switching to Substack will allow for much better community features, annual memberships, and a lot of other stuff that we honestly should have been able to offer you all along. In terms of speed, smoothness, and ease of functionality, there’s no comparison between the two platforms, and we’re excited to take advantage of our new, much snazzier home.
But there’s a bigger reason, too: Patreon’s commitment to free speech and open discourse is about as strong as Jesse on a wrestling mat. As long as we do this podcast — and we hope to do it for a very long time — there will be a risk of one of us (let’s be honest: Katie) saying something that offends the Patreon gods, which could potentially lead to us being kicked off. We are not saying there have been any concrete threats on this front. We are saying that we view it as a legitimate concern and something that nudged us out the door a bit.
The short of it is, we feel that Substack is a better home for us both technologically and ideologically, and so we’re making the leap.
Now, what does this mean for our current subscribers?
Going forward, our basic release schedule will be the same as it has always been: a free episode every week for everyone (released early for premium subscribers), and three extra premium ones per calendar month. From now on, though, everything will be posted to our new Substack site, BlockedAndReported.org. That starts today — at noon Eastern we will be dropping both a new free episode and a new premium one there, and our entire back catalog has already been copied over. We will not be posting any more episodes here. (Yes, you will still be able to listen to everything in your podcatcher of choice on Substack — the site makes that quite easy.)
To help ease the transition and to thank you all for your support, we are giving all our patrons a month of free access to the premium version of our new site. After that, if you want to continue to support us and access our bonus content (and we really hope that you do), you’ll need to sign up here. The more of you who make this switch, and the sooner you do so, the more seamless and successful this transition will be — so please consider taking the plunge right away.
The tier system will be slightly different on Substack: The base subscription price will be slightly lower if you do an annual subscription, for one thing, and we’re opening up our video hangouts to all premium subscribers rather than to just the $10+/month oligarchs in their stately manors. We'll save you the details for now, though — you can get more information about all that here. And you can always hit us up if you have any questions.

I just signed up here and now you're telling me I have to take 5 whole minutes and switch over to substack?? That's a big ask but I can't say no to getting my dose of Jesse's sweet, sweet Transphobia/asking basic questions. I will say that your comparison to Jesse on the wrestling mat is a little misinformed. I'v been training with wrestlers for over 2 decades and it's not just strength that matters. Speed, agility, endurance and aggression also matter. If he has those, then the physical weakness isn't such a problem. So, he should be fine.

I also assume sub stack is giving you a better deal in terms of fees. Patreon's 10% is a bit ridiculous considering the service they provide.
