GarlicOS 2.0.2 now supports RG35XXSP

Introduction

I've finally been able to get my hands on one of these, and I am happy to confirm that the existing RG35XX+ bootloader works just fine on the newly released RG35XXSP.

This doesn't come as a huge surprise, given the almost identical hardware.

And, unlike the recently released RG28XX, it doesn't need in-software rotation for its screen to function correctly.

Upcoming hardware acceleration support

Given the wide adoption of the Allwinner H700 SoC in Anbernic's recent devices, and its glibc-compatible driver blobs, these devices have quickly soared to the top of my to-do list as potential hardware-acceleration testing targets.

In fact, I've been testing a WIP hardware-accelerated GarlicOS 2 build on these devices for a bit more than a week now and hope to have it out for public testing soon.

Known issues with Allwinner H700 devices

GarlicOS 2, at its core, is built to run on a plethora of different SoCs using a single shared operating system image.

Given this background, it's a given that the same images can run differently on different hardware, and the Allwinner H700 devices have acted as somewhat of a floodlight to really highlight this.

All Allwinner H700 devices, at this point in time, suffer from I/O-related slowdown issues, which rear their ugly heads as frame pacing, sound stutter, and excessive loading time issues.

I'm still looking into this, so bear with me for the time being.

Which devices are currently supported?

How to install GarlicOS?

All GarlicOS 2.X devices run off the same operating system image, booted by a custom, device specific bootloader.

The process can differ slightly from device to device, but, for the most part, the process is always the same:

For exact step by step instructions, please consult your device's bootloader repository README.

Comments

So I'm trying to get GarlicOS running on my 35XXSP and I'm running into issues. Fresh clean SD cards, latest Anbernic OS image, following the install guide on the git hub (https://github.com/GarlicOS/bootloader_anbernic_rg35xxplus) and GarlicOS loads but when ever I select any option the SP instantly crashes/shuts off. Tried from freshly formatted SD cards and same issue. Looking at the github issues a few people are having the same issue.

Upgraded the account to help bring full support to the H and SP... Coming from the miyoo mini plus with Onion there's soooo much lacking in anything else

Oh RG35xx isn’t supported for garlic os 2.0?

Bet. Mines on its way and this'll be the first thing I'll do
