WCMBI - Chapter 266: Living Contently
Added 2024-02-13 09:15:47 +0000 UTCFor a while, I was so busy that I couldn't make it to meet Dia. Aside from the work of making magical items, I was occupied with the task of finding the Omegas, just as Lucia had mentioned. Locating the elusive Omegas proved to be no easy feat. There were few visible candidates, and among them was Lorena, the Lady of Lorendale.
Her name, seen after a long time, momentarily brought back memories of that era. It was a strange sensation, as if recalling events not so distant in the past, yet strangely dimmed.
"Why do you know her?" Lucia inquired as she caught me staring intently at Lorena's name on the list.
"Is Miss Lorena still residing in Lorendale?" she asked.
"Hmm, based on our investigation, it seems that she is. Why do you ask?"
"Oh, it's nothing. I was merely curious," I replied.
"Hmm..."
Even when invited to Lorendale by the Marquis, Lorena was disregarded by Lilliana. It had been quite some time since then, but what could be the reason for her still living there?
Could it be because of the child?
If Lorena's continued presence there was by her own choice, what should I do? Is it truly the right thing to follow Lucia's plan and bring the Omegas to the sanctum?
"Well then, will Mell go to Lorendale?" Lucia asked.
"Yes, I will."
I agreed with Lucia, thinking that it would be better for someone familiar with Lorendale to go. Using teleportation, I crossed over to Lorendale and made my way towards the cottage where Lorena was said to be staying.
Surreptitiously, I moved without being noticed by others and eventually found Lorena standing in one corner. To prevent startling her, I deliberately made some noise as I approached, causing her to turn around with surprise in her eyes.
"Um, haven't we met before?" she asked, seemingly faintly remembering me.
"It's Melissa. How have you been, Lorena?"
"Oh my, indeed we have!"
After ensuring no one else was around, we engaged in a brief conversation.
"I was sorry that I couldn't meet you since then. I hope everything went well with the childbirth and how you've been... I only heard briefly about it from the Marquis."
"Well, I... well, I've been doing relatively well."
There had been many events, but she didn't seem willing to divulge much. Instead, Lorena asked me various questions, as if more curious about how I found her than wondering why I sought her out. After answering to the best of my ability, I eventually brought up the main topic.
"Actually, I have become the Duchess. So, Lorena..."
"Yes, go on," she urged.
"Would you find it agreeable to stay here?"
"I mean no other implications. If there is a place where the Omegas can live, would you be willing to go there? In fact, I came here to meet you on behalf of that place."
"If there's a place where only Omegas can stay then, you are really making an enchanting proposal but I cannot leave this place."
"Have you been imprinted?"
Worriedly, I inquired, and Lorena's expression showed surprise for a moment, then she gently smiled and nodded.
"That's not it. I just love the Marquis very much. And I want to see the child grow."
"I see."
"To others, it may seem quite pitiable, but I am content with where I am now. To be honest, I dislike headaches, and having the Marquis' wife manage everything is not so bad."
It was quite an innovative perspective. The way she looked at things from an angle I had never considered was almost shocking.
