[B3]Chapter 191 & 192: Bond of the Beloved: Reunion with Lily

[Disclaimer: These two chapters may disappoint some readers, as they delve into unexpected developments. I hope you’ll continue reading.]

As Theo was pulled into the dimly lit room, his eyes fell upon Lilith, seated on a wooden bed with only a thin layer of bedding beneath her.

The elderly woman approached Lilith and placed a comforting hand on her cheek. The old woman’s gaze softened as she met Lilith’s eyes. "He asked me to tell you to forgive him for what he did to you," she said with a tone laced with sadness.

This revelation struck Lilith like a bolt, igniting a fierce anger in her scarlet eyes. She realized the old lady was referring to that very person from her past.

"Why should I forgive a monster who imprisoned me for so long?" she demanded, her voice seething with a rage so intense it seemed capable of annihilating the one responsible for her confinement.

The old lady sighed heavily, then revealed, "It was your own grandfather who confined you in that place."

The words hit Lilith like an avalanche, leaving her stunned. Her eyes widened in disbelief, a storm of emotions flashing across her face.

"You expect me to believe that Grandpa did this? That he kept me imprisoned? He would never do this! I won’t believe it!" She stood up abruptly, intending to leave. However, the old lady's next words stopped her in her tracks.

"It was all to save that boy... the one you pleaded with your grandfather to protect. The prophecy foretold his premature death, fated to occur when he turned sixteen at the hands of the Forgotten One's cultists.

In his desperation to fulfill your wish—a wish that tore at his heart like a blazing knife—your grandfather faced an agonizing decision. Imagine the pain of confining the granddaughter he cherished above all else.

At that time, you held unimaginable power, bearing two noble elements. The cultists could have tracked you easily. To shield both your lives in the lower realm, he split you into two beings, sealing your memories and most of your strength within one half.

It’s almost beyond belief, even for someone as old as me. He rewrote both your destiny and the boy's in ways no one could have foreseen. In doing so, he not only saved you both but gave the world a chance—a chance against the Forgotten One who is destined to rise."

As the old lady spoke, Lilith's eyes brimmed with tears. She settled on the bed once again, and long-forgotten memories began resurfacing.

It felt as though these memories had always been there, hidden in an unfamiliar corner of her mind. She watched the scenes unfold in her mind's eye, accompanied by the old lady's narration.

"Your grandfather is an Origin Master, bound by laws that prevent him from directly intervening against the Forbidden One or meddling in mortal affairs. He exists beyond what we can comprehend.

So, he resorted to his cunning strategies to conceal you and the boy. Had you stayed together, your combined growth and emerging powers might have prematurely exposed the truth.

This could have made it easier for the cultists to track you and the boy down before you were both strong enough to confront them. To prevent this, he temporarily took the boy to another world. Despite his extraordinary abilities and nature, your grandfather chose to live among the humans of that world for the boy's safety..."

Lilith was struck by the revelation that she had once implored her grandfather to save someone—a boy.

Had she truly loved a boy in her childhood so deeply that she was willing to sacrifice her freedom for him?

This thought left her in turmoil. But what do I do about my strong feelings for my farmer boy? she pondered, her heart torn between her forgotten past and her current affections.

Gazing up at the old lady, she asked, "When will I remember my entire past?"

The old lady replied, "You'll recall everything once you find your other half. That's when you'll uncover the complete truth and can return to your true home."

The whole revelation left Lilith grappling with the implications of her rediscovered past. Her feelings for the boy she had once cherished clashed with the deep affection she felt for Theo. Her heart was a battleground of past love and present emotions.

The old lady reached for a box on the small table beside her bed, placing it into Lilith's hands. "This box contains something that will lead you to the boy for whom you were ready to be imprisoned in the basement. But remember, do not open it until you are in the Great Sylvana Forest. This realm I inhabit is separate from that world, and opening the box here would render it useless, preventing you from finding him." After giving this instruction, she affectionately ruffled Lilith's hair.

Lilith gazed at the box with conflicted emotions, her eyes softening, the fiery anger subsiding.

As the room emptied, Lilith and the lady’s footsteps faded, leaving only silence in their wake. Theo and Ryuk remained behind, two uninvited guests forgotten in the dim light.

Theo’s gaze lingered on the doorway where Lilith had disappeared.

So this is why Lilith was silent that day? She was hesitant to leave me for that boy. She feared the boy she cherished in her past wasn’t me...

A faint smile tugged at his lips, though he quickly masked it, focusing instead on the old man.

Ryuk stood with his arms folded, eyes shut in serene amusement, a satisfied smirk gracing his face as if awaiting well-earned praise.

Theo narrowed his eyes, breaking the silence with a sarcastic edge. “Did you bribe that elder lady to shower you with those noble words, old man?”

Ryuk's eyes shot open, and he raised an eyebrow, feigning innocence, though a flicker of genuine surprise crossed his face. “How could you tell?”

Theo scoffed. “Because no one in their right mind would speak so highly of you without some... incentive.” He paused. “And her eyes practically screamed annoyance with every word about you, but Lilith was too wrapped up in her emotions to notice.”

Ryuk chuckled, but his eyes glinted with something deeper. “So, you don’t believe in my heroic feats? The grand exploits she spoke of?”

Theo’s gaze hardened. “It’s not about belief. What she described... it all happened exactly as she said. But there’s something I don’t get.” His voice turned sharper. “Why was my experience so different from Lilith’s? Why was my counterpart in this world left so... clueless? Did you do that on purpose?”

Ryuk’s smile faded, replaced by a rare seriousness. “That was never my intention. I feared for your survival in this world. When you turned sixteen, there was... uncertainty.” His gaze softened, shadows flitting across his face. “I couldn’t risk losing you entirely. So, I only let your other self retain a tiny fragment of your consciousness. Enough that if he perished, the damage would be... minimal.”

Ryuk continued, “Also, time flows differently here than in the secondary world. When your other self turned seventeen here, you were already twenty-one in the other world, ready to return.”

Everything clicked into place in Theo’s mind as the scattered puzzle pieces finally aligned. He stared blankly for a moment, lost in the revelation. This split consciousness and bodies along with two worlds—it all led back to Ryuk’s calculated plan.

Seeing the understanding dawn in Theo’s eyes, Ryuk snapped his fingers, and with that single motion, the room shifted. They were back on the battlefield, frozen in a suspended moment of chaos. Blades and bodies hung mid-motion.

“I can’t wait to meet my adorable granddaughter again... she must have missed me terribly,” Ryuk said with a fond smile.

Theo’s gaze drifted to them.

Liliana was frozen, kneeling on the ground beside Lilith, her expression etched with sorrow. A single tear had slipped down her cheek, hanging suspended mid-air like a delicate droplet of glass.

Her trembling fingers reached toward the hand that had silenced Lilith. It hadn’t been Theo’s conscious choice; it was as if someone deep within him had acted on instinct.

Lilith, though... her arms still hovered in the air, suspended as if she were cradling him, even as he’d pulled away. Her eyes held a fragile confusion, and slowly, life returned to her gaze, and then the tears came, flowing freely down her cheeks.

She blinked, her expression morphing from sorrow to panic as she realized her arms were empty. Her eyes darted around, searching for the one she cherished dearly.

“Where... have you gone?” Lilith whispered, her breath hitching as her head whipped around, eyes wide and wild. She staggered to her feet, surprise flickering in her eyes as she took in the strange, frozen scene around her. “Why... why is everyone frozen?”

Her heart hammered as her gaze swept frantically across every corner of the battlefield, ignoring the eerie stillness surrounding her. She didn’t care that the world seemed to have frozen; her only thought was finding him.

Just as her panicked eyes darted from face to face, the soft echo of approaching footsteps broke through the silence. She spun around, and there he was—Grandpa Ryuk, standing there with his hands tucked stylishly into his coat pockets, an enigmatic smile playing on his lips.

He was trying to make the same cool entrance he’d given Theo earlier. Though that attempt had gone awry with the boy, he knew his granddaughter adored him and would be thrilled to see him.

But Theo was also there, standing just behind Ryuk. With a resigned sigh, he stepped forward, revealing himself.

Lilith’s moist eyes fell on them, and with a shuddering breath, she broke into a run, her face a flood of emotion and tears glistening as they spilled over.

Just as she neared, Ryuk’s voice rang out with exaggerated warmth, opening his arms wide, inviting her to rest within them. “Ah... my child, do not cry. Your grandpa is here...”

But his words faltered, and his mouth dropped open in shock, disbelief etched across his face as Lilith ran right past him, flinging herself into Theo’s arms.

Theo stumbled back, catching her as she clung tightly to him, her arms locking around his neck as if she feared he might vanish again.

“I thought... I thought I’d lost you,” she whispered, her voice trembling.

Before he could respond, she began pressing soft, hurried kisses across his face—her lips brushing over his closed eyelids, his cheeks, even his nose and forehead—as though making sure he was real.

Theo felt the warmth of each kiss, each soft touch infused with a desperation that tugged at something deep within him.

Her arms held him so tightly that he could feel her heart pounding fiercely against his chest. She buried her face into his shoulder, her voice muffled yet commanding. “Don’t you dare keep things from me again... I swear, I’ll beat you myself...” Her voice wavered with the soft threat, breaking as fresh tears spilled over, dampening Theo’s collar.

As Lilith trembled and cried in Theo’s arms, he glanced over her shoulder, catching sight of Grandpa Ryuk.

The old man’s face had changed; his usual smile was gone, replaced by a slight frown and a disgruntled look. His shoulders slumped, and there was a hint of childish disappointment in his eyes, like a child overlooked at a family gathering.

He watched them, clearly bothered that his beloved granddaughter hadn’t even spared him a glance.

After what felt like an eternity—though time seemed to blur—Lilith’s breathing finally slowed. She pulled back slightly, brushing away her tears with the back of her hand, her gaze lingering on Theo as if grounding herself in his presence, as though needing the assurance that he was truly there with her.

Theo offered her a gentle smile and nodded toward Ryuk. “Don’t you want to greet him?”

Lilith blinked, as if only now realizing Ryuk was standing there, watching her expectantly.

Behind them, Ryuk’s expression shifted instantly, a broad grin spreading across his face. He lifted his arms in an overly grand, welcoming gesture, clearly putting on a show now that he had her attention.

Lilith’s eyes softened as she finally took in the sight of her grandfather. A small, tremulous smile broke through the remnants of her tears, and she whispered, “Grandpa...” Her voice was filled with all the emotions she’d held back for years.

Without another thought, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him.

For a moment, Ryuk was caught off guard, his posture stiffening before he melted into the embrace, one hand gently patting her back.

“I thought my own flesh and blood had forgotten me!” he declared with exaggerated cheer, though his tone was tinged with genuine warmth.

Lilith giggled, shaking her head as she brushed a stray tear from her cheek. “As if that could ever happen.” She took a breath, her voice softening. “I missed you so much, Grandpa.”

Ryuk’s eyes twinkled. “Missed me? Well, I suppose I’m due a proper welcome, then. How about a feast? Maybe a few songs in my honor?”

Lilith rolled her eyes, smiling. “Still as dramatic as ever... You really are the king of drama, Grandpa.”

“Why, of course!” He pulled back slightly, holding her at arm’s length to study her face, though his hands rested gently on her shoulders. “Tell me, how have you been? Truly.”

Lilith bit her lip, meeting his gaze. “It’s... been hard.” Her voice wavered. Then, after a moment’s hesitation, she added, “But... why did it take you so long to appear?”

Ryuk’s grin widened, as though he’d expected the question. “Because... if I’d come sooner, I might’ve altered the course of who you were both meant to become. I didn’t want to interfere until you were both ready.”

The old man's gaze drifted toward the next person in line. With a knowing smile, he murmured, “I think it’s time to wake her too... She must have missed me, just like you did.”

Lilith turned, following his line of sight. There, still frozen in place, was Liliana. Her hand was clenched in the air, her expression filled with sorrow, as though grasping at something lost.

[B3]Chapter 192: Bond of the Beloved: Reunion with Lily (2)

Slowly, life returned to her face; her hand wavered, coming to rest at her side as her eyes flickered back to awareness. She glanced around, confusion softening her gaze as she noticed that both Theo and Lilith were no longer in front of her.

She blinked, her gaze sweeping the surroundings with a silent, concerned question. Unlike Theo and Lilith, she showed no sign of terror or confusion at the abrupt pause in her surroundings. Instead, she simply took in the scene, her moist eyes finally finding them at a distance.

Ryuk, in the meantime, had returned to his usual grand entry pose, hands tucked into his coat, his enigmatic smile back in place. His eyes sparkled with pride and affection as he watched Liliana, silently hoping his granddaughter would remember how much she’d missed him—and perhaps wouldn’t completely ignore him, unlike certain traitors standing beside him.

Unlike Lilith, Liliana didn’t rush forward. Instead, she walked with a quiet grace, her gaze flicking from one face to the next before finally settling on Theo.

A sour expression flashed across Ryuk’s face, his smile faltering as he realized Liliana’s focus was entirely on Theo.

The moment unfolded slowly, each second stretching with an intensity that bordered on surreal. Liliana’s tear-streaked eyes locked onto Theo, her gaze filled with a depth of sorrow and longing that seemed to transcend time itself.

Theo felt a surge of inexplicable emotion rise within him, a sensation he hadn’t expected. His relationship with Lilith was clear, built on shared memories and countless moments together. But with Liliana... things were different.

The day he’d first seen her emerging through the school gates, he’d felt as if a massive weight had been lifted from his chest. Finally, he no longer had to wonder if they shared a romantic past in their childhood—whether he’d once held a place in her heart in that way.

Just looking at her, he’d known. The resemblance between Lilith and Liliana was undeniable, though subtle distinctions set them apart. The person Lilith had been searching for, the part of herself that she had lost... it was all before him as Liliana.

Since then, Theo had chosen to keep this knowledge to himself, observing her closely, searching her words and actions for clues. He’d stayed silent, hoping to draw out more of her memories, to learn what she knew about the past they shared—fearing she might conceal it from him again, just as she had before.

Liliana approached slowly, as if gathering strength. Then, as if something inside her broke free, her pace quickened, turning into a sprint.

As she neared him, she paused, her gaze locking onto his with a hint of sorrow and longing. But in the next heartbeat, she closed the distance, throwing herself into his arms without hesitation.

Theo stiffened, caught off guard, uncertain of how to respond. Liliana’s emotions poured out like a bursting dam, her sobs filling the air as she clung to him without a word, her arms wrapped around him tightly.

With a soft sigh, Theo raised a hand to gently ruffle her hair, his eyes flickering over to Lilith.

She was watching them with a narrowed gaze, her expression cold, as if silently questioning why he was letting Liliana cling to him so freely.

To the side, Grandpa Ryuk looked heartbroken. His posture sagged, and he wore an expression of genuine disappointment, as though Liliana’s complete attention on Theo had hurt him.

Liliana’s voice came out in a choked whisper, muffled against Theo’s chest. “I was waiting... all these years, I waited for you to come back...” Her words trembled as fresh tears streamed down her cheeks, her fingers clutching him like a lifeline.

Theo hesitated, struggling to find the right words, unsure how to respond.

Gradually, as time slipped by in his comforting embrace and the quiet surrounding them, Liliana’s sobs began to softened, and the tightness of her grip on Theo eased. Slowly, she pulled back just enough to look up at him, her eyes still glistening with tears.

“I thought...” She took a shaky breath. “I thought you’d forgotten me. All this time, I kept telling myself you’d come back. But some days... some days it felt like just a dream.”

Theo gently brushed a stray tear from her cheek, murmuring in a low voice, “I’m here now.”

Liliana searched his gaze for a long moment before pulling away fully, her expression shifting, questions flickering in her eyes. “Why didn’t you tell me who you were?” she whispered, her voice edged with hurt. “Why did you hide it from me?”

Theo sighed, his eyes clouding as he struggled to find the right words. “Don’t hate me for this. I just... I needed to know more about my past. Everyone kept treating me like some child who couldn’t handle the truth.”

“You’re very much a child...” Lilith commented quietly from the side.

Theo shot her a brief, irritated glance but continued, “I was tired of being kept in the dark. I thought... if I stayed silent, maybe you’d let something slip—to Emma, or someone else—and I’d finally have some answers. Wasn’t it the same when we first met at the Silverblade Mansion? You didn’t tell me you knew me, either.”

Liliana’s face fell, her lips parting as disbelief clouded her eyes. “So this was your revenge?” she whispered. “You left me yearning... just watching me from the shadows all this time?”

Theo opened his mouth, but no words came. He looked down, struggling for a response, but before he could find one, Liliana turned away from him, her gaze landing on Ryuk.

Ryuk’s face lit up, and he spread his arms, an exaggerated gesture of welcome, as though to soften the moment. “Ah, so my turn has finally come—” His smile wavered, then faded entirely as he caught the coldness in Liliana’s eyes.

“You lied to me... You broke my trust, Grandpa.” Her voice was quiet, but the pain in it was piercing, each word striking him like a thorn.

For a brief moment, the usual confidence in Ryuk’s expression slipped, replaced by a flicker of regret. His gaze softened as he spoke, “Lily... if I’d told you the truth, you might have tried to reach out to him sooner. Your restored presence would’ve drawn attention, especially from the cultists. They’re convinced that neither of you are here—believing you both to be lost to them.”

Liliana’s eyes flashed with frustration, her voice rising as she countered, “But I deserved to know he’d returned. Even if I couldn’t approach him, I could’ve kept watch, made sure he was safe from a distance. There was no need to keep me in the dark, Grandpa.”

Theo, listening from the side, felt it was also unfair to him. He wanted to speak up, to tell them how he, too, had felt betrayed by this secrecy, by being kept in the dark about everything that concerned him. But sensing the tension between Liliana and Ryuk, he held back, realizing this wasn’t the time for his own grievances.

Ryuk fell silent, his confident facade fully fractured. He’d always imagined Liliana would be the gentlest with him out of the three, the one who’d be happy to see him. But her anger was sharper than he’d anticipated, laced with a pain he could now see had festered for years.

The old man couldn’t deny the truth in her words. He knew how much she’d suffered, waiting and hoping. He remembered how, as a child, she’d spoken of “the boy” with an innocent devotion. She would tell him stories of their shared dreams, their games, and her longing to protect him.

And when he’d trained her, putting her through grueling, almost impossible challenges that would have made most people curse him, she accepted it all without a single complaint, enduring each hardship with a quiet determination.

She’d simply say she needed to be strong so she could protect him someday. Sometimes, she would even ask, with that same hopeful gleam in her eyes, if he’d let her go and see him.

Having watched them grow together, Ryuk knew their bond better than anyone. He understood just how deeply this separation had hurt her, and why his secrecy had wounded her so deeply now.

He let out a long sigh. “What’s done is done. I... understand if you want to hold me accountable. Punish me if you must. But know this: I only wanted to ensure that nothing went wrong, that both of you remained safe.”

His expression grew somber. “Besides, things have already begun to spiral in the upper world. At this point, even both of your presences becoming known is the least of our concerns. This world has very little time to prepare for what’s coming.”

Liliana’s defiant anger faltered, replaced by deep concern. “What’s happening in the upper world?”

Ryuk’s eyes darkened with a cold expression. “The cultists are no longer lurking in the shadows. They’ve already found a vessel. The Forbidden One is on the brink of rising, and the fate of both worlds may depend on the two of you.”

The news caused Liliana’s expression to turn grave; however, Theo and Lilith didn’t fully grasp its significance.

Breaking the silence, Ryuk continued, “As sovereign of time, I may have more freedom than most, but even I must respect the laws of this world. So, I can’t stay here indefinitely.”

Theo’s eyes narrowed. “Don’t even think about leaving until you’ve unsealed my memories.”

Ryuk raised an eyebrow, a dry smirk tugging at his lips. “That’s the only reason I’m here, lad. If not for you, I’d be enjoying a peaceful life in the higher realms. Because of you, I’ve even run errands like some commoner in a world where they can’t even use magic...” he grumbled.

Liliana’s cold voice broke through. “Are you sure Theo can handle it now?”

Ryuk gave a resigned sigh, nodding. “He’s all grown up. Besides, even if he can’t handle it, we don’t have the luxury of waiting.”

Liliana’s face fell, a shadow crossing her features as she looked at Theo with deep concern.

Lilith, standing nearby, lifted her chin and demanded, “And what about me? When am I getting my memories back?”

Liliana’s eyes shifted to her, a yearning flickering in her voice. “Every moment you had with him... I long for them as if they’re pieces of me. I can’t bear feeling like a stranger to the love we both cherished.”

Lilith’s lips curved into an understanding smile, and she took a step toward Liliana. But before she could reach her, a hand clasped her wrist, holding her back.

Lilith looked back in surprise to find Theo holding her wrist, his gaze intense and filled with worry. “If you go back... will that make you disappear?”

The question startled her, and she was touched by his concern. For a moment, she looked at him with eyes full of affection. Liliana, however, felt an ache in her chest as she watched. He hadn’t asked her if she would disappear—he’d only asked Lilith.

Sensing the shift, Ryuk quickly intervened with a huff. “You fool... they’re one and the same. No one’s disappearing.”

But Theo’s grip on Lilith’s wrist remained firm, hesitant, as if the words alone couldn’t quiet his fear. His gaze stayed on her, searching her face for reassurance, because he knew she wouldn’t lie about it, knowing how much she loved him.

Lilith reached up with her free hand, gently resting it on his cheek. “If it brings sorrow to my farmer boy, then we can live inside our farm forever, far from the world’s chaos, forgetting the rest.”

Theo could feel the depth of Lilith's words; the sincerity of her love was pure. She was ready to let go of her past if it meant bringing him peace.

On the side, Liliana stood silently, not objecting, but her heart was in turmoil.

Then Lilith’s next words made everything infinitely more complex as she spoke softly. “But understand this... even if you regain those precious memories of the time we shared as children, I won’t have any of them. I won’t know what you meant to me back then, but... this demoness will love you, eternally and without end.”

Her words made Theo hesitate once more. He glanced at Liliana, whose gaze, like Lilith’s, held that same affectionate light. The warmth he saw there mirrored what he’d only ever found in Lilith’s.

With a reluctant sigh, he murmured, “I’m still not used to her coldness... I only know the warmth and wildness of my demoness.”

Lilith chuckled, shaking her head. “I’m only cold to others. Perhaps that’s why she’s seemed distant toward you. But once we become one again, why would I treat my farmer boy like anyone else? You will always be the one I love most. I promise, it will be me—-only me—with all the memories of our past.”

She then turned her attention to Liliana, her voice taking on an edge of playful danger. “And if there ever was a threat to my existence from her... I wouldn’t have hesitated to destroy her.” Her smile turned wicked for a moment, but then her tone softened, adding with a sigh, “But if she dies, I die too. And, as you can imagine, my love, it’s a rather delicate situation.”

Theo’s expression finally eased, Lilith’s words bringing some sense of reassurance. He nodded, though the reluctance in his eyes hadn’t completely vanished.

Lilith’s face softened as she leaned forward, pressing a gentle kiss to Theo’s forehead. The touch of her warm lips melted away the tension that had gripped his heart, and slowly, he released her wrist.

Then, Lilith turned, her gaze falling on Liliana. The two stared at each other, an unspoken understanding passing between them.

Lilith spoke quietly. “Let’s begin.”

Liliana nodded, her eyes glistening with relief. She knew this wasn’t about one of them disappearing. It was about becoming whole again—returning to what they were meant to be.

With a heavy heart, Liliana spread her hands toward Lilith. Lilith did the same, placing her palms over Liliana’s. Their eyes closed in unison, their breathing synchronizing as they prepared.

Theo and Ryuk watched in silence as a soft, golden glow enveloped Liliana, while a warm yellow light surrounded Lilith. Slowly, the two lights drifted toward each other, their edges blurring and melding together. The radiance intensified, forming a shimmering cocoon that wrapped around both women.

As the auras intertwined, the cocoon pulsed, its colors blending into a radiant sphere, with yellow radiating from the bottom and gold blazing from the top.

The light grew even brighter, becoming a blinding, swirling sphere that encased them entirely, until it shone like the midday sun. The cocoon then began to contract, shrinking from a meter-wide bubble to half its size, its glow focusing and pulsating with each heartbeat.

The radiance gradually dimmed, and Theo squinted, trying to discern what was happening within. As the light faded further, a lone figure became visible inside.

She wore a white dress that flowed gracefully around her. Her features seemed to hold Liliana’s elegance but were softened with Lilith’s vibrant charm.

Her eyes slowly opened, meeting Theo's gaze for a moment. Then, with a soft sigh, she lowered herself to the ground, crossing her legs in a calm, meditative pose.

As the final flickers of light vanished into nothingness, the cocoon disappeared, leaving her seated alone on the ground. She closed her eyes, a quiet stillness engulfing her.

Meanwhile, a series of notifications floated in front of Theo, informing him of the changes.
