SE Server Update: WeaponCore Issues?

Hi everyone!

I hope all of you are doing well during these difficult times.
Great to know that you're all enjoying the Space Engineers Colony LOST Supporter server. Joining all you at the weekend to play the "Salvage The Vengeance" event was fantastic, I had a lot of fun.

Now I must turn our attention to the mod of "WeaponCore" which is currently implemented on the server. Some of you have reported to us that it is causing issues when It comes down to combat of the starships you are using. if you could please COMMENT on this post to report the issue, so we have a good feedback thread, that would be fantastic.
To let you know, we are tracking the issue and investigating what it could be. But it would help if you can report any bugs to us via this page so that we may coordinate a fix with the Mod Developers.

A Solution:

Ultimately one quick solution to these issues that we are having is to remove the mod from the server. This would mean traditional weapon combat returns. However, this is not something I am willing to look into just yet, as we have identified a potential bug that is occurring on the Supporter Server.

This is just a minor update for all, of what we're currently investigating. Hopefully, we can all resolve it together this week, but I wanted to keep you all updated anyway.

Thanks!
- Jack

SE Server Update: WeaponCore Issues?

Comments

(Let me begin by saying that I acknowledge that today's problem *[5/30/2020]* has been discussed with you on the supporter-lounge, so you are already aware of the circumstances that I'm reporting. This report is just to add opinion of WC to the rest.) Since the Supporter Server has started its activity, events have been postponed or gone chaotic thanks to the shenanigans of Weapon Core. Just today, we spent half an hour in confusion trying to calibrate our weapons to attack our event target- our enemy- instead of each other. Once we completed the now-typical routine of checking our automatic targets and adjusting faction-reputation, we still had weapons either not-fire or misfire. Worse, we had individuals controlling fire on OTHER PEOPLE'S GRIDS (some theorized that WC remembers people constructing or controlling said weapons; Timedoctor and others can attest). Despite finding "fixes" to this problem, the problem continues to persist and start events off badly. I understand that Weapon Core is intended to improve player experience for us; it certainly does on your Survival Series. I understand that the mod is still in development and, even when complete, may still have issues when pushed to the limit of so many player grids using it. That said, what I'm seeing is that a while the mod provides an enjoyable experience on a server with only two factions combating each other (with the occasional additional "faction" supporting one side), where conditions are closely monitored before participating, the same is not true on a multi-faction server where said factions cooperate more often than not. As fun as fighting other player factions might be, I don't believe other players would enjoy that just yet; personally, I enjoy "galactic co-op" more than opposition. WC does not support alliance gameplay very well, and (presently) does not consider certain factors that might offset the reputation system that it appears to rely so heavily on. I want to trust your judgement; I believe you want your supporters to enjoy themselves. But if WC continues to be a problem every time your SE community come together, your server will no longer be fun for me, and my active life is too stressful already to deal with the additional stress of unhappy clients- me and everyone else- in my down time.

I love the concept of Weapon Core and what it has set out to do but having just sat through a 2 hour event which was sadly just not enjoyable because of the issues with Weapon Core my vote is to remove it. Problems I encountered / observed in the last event which believe are Weapon Core related: • Ships targeting neutral targets • Ships not targeting hostile targets even though they were engaging neutral grids • Ships friendly firing their own faction ships • Weapon Core configuration (i.e. middle mouse button menus) not updating when you enable / disable options (could be lag related but not everyone had it) • Entire ships guns refusing to fire and yet 1 other exact replica ship had no problems firing (Weapon Core config was setup properly on both ships) • Some guns not firing at all whilst others were firing on the same grid • Some ships appeared invulnerable to damage even though they were not (light armour ships hit with massive barrages of weapon fire and not a single damaged block) Sadly, my ship for 95% of the event would not fire a single weapon and when it did start firing for the first time (over an hour into the event) it was targeting neutral grids even though this was switched off. I then reset the guns using the recommended method of enable / disable manual firing and the turrets then refused to fire at anything again. After 15 minutes of not firing at all and without me touching Weapon Core settings my ship launched a barrage at another of my own faction’s ships and blew out the thrust on the left rear side of that ship. I had not touched the Weapon Core configuration in this time and have never touched the target friendly grid since being on the server. I then just turned the guns off. By that point, the enemies were being removed due to the issues with Weapon Core. I would like to add that the concept of the event was great, I have been looking forward to doing a space event so thanks to Owen for setting it up. Sadly, the event was ruined by not being able to fire weapons on ships properly. The most enjoyable bit of the event was running around the station at the end shooting each other.

weapon core is a great idea and love what they have done. but it fails to work every time we go to have a event or battle. even though neutrals are always off in the stetting. like the last event even though people are neutral, everyone is still firing on each other! we basically cant fight because weapon core is messed up.

Hey Jack :) My feedback is based mostly on experiences and observations from the RWI Base Defence from a few weeks ago and the salvage event this last weekend. For each event I had a different, fully pre-tested small grid ship, and both times the fixed guns did not work until a !fixship was preformed, after which they seemed to work. I'm not sure when they stopped working, in both cases the ships were built long before (at least days) the events and worked fine when built. It would appear that somewhere between the construction and the event the weapons just stopped functioning and required a fix command. I had an opportunity to watch other ships fighting and I noticed that there were more than a few incidents of neutrals and in some cases even faction ships firing on eachother, seemingly at random. During the first event one of our faction ships continued to fire upon neutrals even after the pilot turned off the guns directly and had to leave the event to avoid friendly fire... not exactly a stellar solution but it was either that or grind the guns off. From what I heard on the voice chat and saw during the salvage event someone else also experienced this, in addition to multiple neutral ships shooting eachother, again. The system seems just... out of control, ignoring settings and player input and just doing whatever it wants. :( Default settings for every weaponcore weapon I've looked at appears to be Friendly OFF and neutrals OFF so this should not be happening. In addition the settings don't seem to get saved on server restarts, and the guns just revert to their default above settings anyway. With that in mind and with how many ships ended up shooting eachother, I do not think it's very likely that this situation can be attributed simply to user error. Something else is going on here. I haven't been playing much lately mainly due to the and that's unlikely to change after the last event. How do I plan and build new ships when I can't trust any of the weapons to even remain under my control and not blow away my allies? :( Oh one other thing, weaponcore weapons ignore both safezone no-shoot settings, as well as the offline protection bubbles we use on the server. They can and will engage and damage things outside of the bubble from inside which should not be allowed. They will shoot into them as well, although they can't damage stuff inside the bubble thankfully. From what I've seen and experienced on the server, I've lost all confidence in weaponcore in general. Unless the authors of these mods can straight up fix this stuff asap, I don't see how suffering it any longer can be justified. -_-;

Sometimes the weapons decide to fire at neutral targets and just ignore enemy targets even tho the settings are set to not shoot neutrals. I know someone who even had his guns off and they were still firing.

Some weapons are not auto targeting, some are not firing even when controlled, with shoot turned on, or toggle mouse click turned on.
