Loved this reaction and can't wait for more! Also, you got this out so fast! I was expecting more of a delay before these started I wanted to pull out a couple of moments with Shane's dad since you said in the finale that you'd wanted more of him: - The first is him asking about YouTube as Yuna is launching into her news about Rolex. Maybe it's David legitimately asking about YouTube, but I've seen and heard people who are analyzing the show talking about how it's a way for David to engage Shane about his interests and kind of break the tension right as Yuna is about to launch into a kind of intense conversation about how Rolex, which sets a bunch of expectations for how Shane will need to act to represent the brand. When Yuna, with her one track hockey mind, tells Shane he should be watching hockey videos on YouTube, David says he thinks it's important to keep up with the snake and the baby. Right as Shane sits down at the table, you can see David looking at him trying to figure out how he's doing - The second moment is something I saw someone point out on tiktok, which is when the family is walking down the stairs together after Shane has won MVP at the MLH Awards. The three of them stop and Shane holds up the award and goes to continue walking down the stairs and David stops Yuna from immediately following Shane so he can have his moment of victory on his own - I also won't say much about this since I'm not autistic myself, but I've seen a lot of people talking about how Shane's parents are autistic as well. His mom's special interest is clearly hockey. You can see later that Yuna is able to figure out that Ilya meant that he and Shane were just having sex for a while while David doesn't pick up on it and needs Yuna to tell him directly. Just something else to watch for

Hi Movieman and Darkwavesurf, Silent lurker here again. I wanted to just mention something about Yuna's behaviour. The way I also see it is that she can be a bit strict or pressuring, for lack of a better word, towards Shane because he's half Asian. As a POC mother of a POC child she knows how difficult it can be to reach success in a predominantly white field especially in a sport like hockey. It's not necessarily warranted but it comes from a place of knowing that as a POC you have to work twice as hard and are often not allowed to make mistakes or fall short in any way. You literally have to be spotless and the best of the best to even just be comparable to your white counterparts because the moment you fall short, you're seen as ungrateful, a failure or insert whatever racial stereotype here. Also, as one of the few POCs in the sport, he now automatically becomes like a representative of his entire race even though that's obviously unreasonable. From a societal view, Shane failing now becomes a reflection of all Asian people. So yeah, I think it's a combination of this, her genuine love for hockey and her natural "mumager" tendencies.

SAFE: Yesss, Darkwave!! Shane's freckles are adorable!!! Loved this viewing! You guys are always such a fun duo!! An emphatic yes to continuing the rest of the season! 💖 UNSAFE: I definitely think Scott Hunter clocked Shane & Ilya. I mean, if not from hearing the 1221 convo or from being in the room next door, then very likely from Shane's reaction at the bar. That was suspicious AF!! Imo he definitely knows when he makes that pointed chirp at Shane in episode 3. He knowssss! 😂 I'm sorry to hear your schedule has been stressful. I would struggle managing that much too. I know it's easier said than done, but please take time for yourself. Your mental health should take #1 priority. 🌻

I'll guess I'll watch HR for the 100000th time 🤭🤭🤭❤️❤️🤗🤗

"I wish you'd carry me like that 🥺" "I'm goin' to the gym" 🤣

Scott was definitely trying to drop hints at Shane but Shane is bad at understanding hints lol. My question is was Scott trying to join in or was he letting Shane know if things go south (there’s danger in DL hookups) that Scott is next door to help. Glad to see you both reacting but how can you let Darkwave mog you on your own channel! 😂😍

I'm not here to comment on HR, because I'm literally only 5mins in and the duo is top notch. Pure chaos. I'm here for that 😂 it's getting even better after watching IWTV with you two.

I read that Ilya doesn’t say “Let me show you how to do this, kid” but “Let me show you how to do this good”. Someone from the show clarified this. The subtitles are wrong.

Also about the YouTube rabbit hole David said "the snake and baby I'd watch that, relationship like that could go sideways quick" and then Yuna IMMEDIATELY mentioned Ilya and his interview GREAT foreshadowing there!

2nd watch thoughts comments: Hi Movieman Thank you for dedicating some of your free time to rewatching this so soon. Firstly, and for what its worth, as a reasonably perceptive woman who has watched your reactions to HR and IWAV, I have never once found your content inappropriate, sexualising, or fetishizing in anyway. In fact, you are one of the couple of Patreons I'm staying subscribed to post HR because you're reactions are so considerate and insightful. Awesome job a being a great watch partner for Darkwave, letting her experience it herself while offering minimal gentle guidance and context with no spoilers. Question: Now that you've seen it before, how are you feeling in terms of not having that 'dread of the unknown' vigilance that we all had first time watching? Are you able to take in more, now that you know no one's going to catch them? Sports casters commentary: Totally agree, its important for narrative and character formation and not a lot of people pay attention first watch (which is why its cool to rewatch). Also, the comment about Shane not being social always trips reactors up. I think it does two things - highlights how keen Shane was to meet Ilya (enough to push him out of his comfort zone) and also that what the media put out there is never the whole truth (or even close sometimes). Shane and parents reaction to Montreal Rep conversation: The mans statement was well intentioned but you can see (as intended I think) the subtle reactions of all three of them. Very quiet but clear response to unintentional micro discriminations that people often experience. Ilya's reaction to his dad at the draft: Deservedly, Hudson (Shane) gets accolades for his 'silent' acting, but Connor (Ilya) is just as good. This scene is a perfect example. Ilya is outwardly brash and more charismatic than Shane, so people tend focus on that. The unspoken moments are a hidden depth to Ilya that I think might have been missed if Connor hadn't committed so much effort to understanding his character and the source material. Who felt things first and when: Shane was fascinated by Ilya and his hockey ability, enough to seek him out. I think Ilya was curious about Shane during that first meet. I think that they were both attracted to each other then. They both had a lot of respect for each other as players and competitors from the get go. Ilya, being more of the aggressor, tested the waters during the gym scene, which fuelled his curiosity enough to instigate the commercial shoot situation. It was prior to hockey season, so they had less 'eyes' on them. Like I mentioned in my comment to Darkwave, I think Ilya was very charmed during their first hook up. Hudson mentioned in an interview that he played Shane as smitten from the get go. Music as narrative: Jacob (showrunner) did a stellar job with incorporate the music into the story, so intentional. Peter Peter's score is top notch. Without these, it would have been a lessor experience. Ilya: I think Ilya is an archetypal service top. In the first hook up scene, I interpret Ilya's response as a mix of teenage horniness, that he's surprised as how close he is so quickly even though Shane would most certainly be a novice, and being dialled into Shane's first experience. He's considerate from the start, despite his 'rage baity' post nut comments, designed to wind Shane up a bit. By nature, he's nurturing and caring underneath that hard Russian mask. Scott clocking the tea: Yes I think he is, but there's no consensus on this. Francois (Scott) has said no, he didn't portray it that way. Rachel Reid (the author) was asked this in an interview and she agrees with mant of the viewers - it comes across in the show is that Scott does know. (can't remember if it happened in the book or not). Ilya in Boston: With some book context here -I think Ilya is surprised and uncomfortable at how disappointed he is when the flight is cancelled. I think he conveniently uses Svetlana's presence as a distraction, enough that he doesn't respond to Shane via text again that season. Shanes anger on the rooftop: I think it's a mixture of immaturity (he's 20 years old, not a drinker and drunk) and confusion over the situation. He does not pick up on anything Ilya isn't saying.
