Cried with you and relate a lot to the depression and darker things you spoke on. Hope you are doing better and hope anyone else that struggles can persevere and get to a better place as well. As for the episode, it's one of my favorites! So much emotional whiplash. You get a glimpse into these people a little more and the way trauma and guilt follow you. Imagine carrying that kind of emotional baggage for eternity as a vampire?? Very tragic.

Newbie here. I love your reactions. I greatly appreciate your transparency and vulnerability. I really connect with you and I’m so happy you are in a better space. Keep being your authentic great self. It is definitely much appreciated 🥰! Thank you

Partrice

Exactly. And, I think we see both of Louis’s paramours pursue him romantically with the same “toolkit” with which they hunt their prey. For Lestat, it’s theatrical, drawn out, flamboyant, inevitable—and he wants you to see him for what he is. For Armand, “his methods are rarely violent” (diet comment to Daniel)…”he prefers to find the weakness within the object” (his comment to Louis about how he uses the fire gift, whereas it takes getting angry for Louis). Armand chooses to feed on those who are suicidal (or those who he can persuade to be suicidal, which is arguably a way more insidious, manipulative “violence”), and attaches himself to a partner known for suicidal ideation. They’re vampires. They’re dead! They’re not healthy.

Lee

Great art, provokes thought and emotion. Anne’s books and this series def does that. Thanks for sharing some of your emotional journey here. Trust me, you’re not alone. I enjoy watching your channel soooo much! I can relate on such a deep level to your stories and thoughts. Even though we’re watching a show about vampires, we’re really watching a show about what it is to be human and maybe losing our humanity along the way. Love and acceptance. Trauma is something all of us can relate to. Hopefully we can overcome it and it makes us stronger. I’ve always loved and related to the horror genre. I guess feeling different than everyone else growing up, made me sympathize with the ‘creatures of the night’ on some level. Everyone wants to be accepted, even if theoretically you are a monster (just talking about the fictional characters here) LOL. We are all trying to find our place in this world. We all want to survive in life. Hopefully our past traumas don’t persuade us otherwise. Love your channel and your insight. Much love back at ya!

Terry W

Vampires are predators and they behave like predators. That’s both the nature of the beast and should be evident and not controversial to say. Lestat is a good vampire, which doesn’t make him a good person, at all, but as we all find out, these are not good people, though some of them are good (or bad) vampires.

Rocco

Great reaction as always! I’m a new Patreon member following this series. Wished you had played the argument between Louis and Armand on its own because it’s something else in its entirety but I think you were a bit distracted by that light behind you 😂. Would you ever consider reacting to the Haunting of Hill House series on Netflix? I would love to see your take on that. Or Monarch on Apple TV. Or the series From is also good! Thank you!

I had the same issue when I started dealing with my depression. "Am I truly myself if I'm not like that?" That was the big question. For me, art helped. Art allowed me to express myself, my true self, in a physical form, and I could always turn to that as "proof" of who I am. Now, almost a decade later, I know who I am... but the road is long and not easy. Having people address this issue openly as in this reaction video... I know it would have helped me in the early years of dealing with this. I truly hope your journey is successful <3

This episode was the one that made me LOVE this show. The whole season 2 before this was amazing, but this one, this one made me see it as one of top 5 shows of all time for me. The raw emotion in this, and the way they show emotional and mental turmoil all three characters go through is just so honest and real. And listening to your comments on the Armand-Daniel Rest scene... This is exactly it. This is what made me cry when I first watched this episode, and every time I've re-watched it since. After over a decade of pain and living with these thoughts myself, I am now in a better position, but like you said, sometimes it's the "old friend" that you know, that you've lived with for so long. And it's strange, not having it around all the time. Thank you for your honesty and your vulnerability and gentleness with which you approach this issue. I've found my way out, or at least I'm still working on it every day, but for others who are going through this same thing, I know your candid reaction will be helpful.

Lukre Phoenix

I think Ive now seen this episode at least 5 times now, both through my own initial watching it and then watching reactors react to it and it still hits me hard every time. The acting is phenominal and I can't beleieve this show is not being recognised with more awards. I recently learnt that the recasting of Claudia meant that this was the first episode filmed for Season 2 making the performances of Luke, Assad and Jacob even more remarkable. It was a heavy episode to watch and your reaction to it Movieman was moving, Im sorry that you have been that low, but I'm glad that you're still here to share your insights with us, but have given me a new perspective on these characters and the series.

thisaintjimbeam

Your reaction to this is fantastic. I find myself connecting with your thoughts and experiences. I am regretful that I haven't found someone as thoughtful as you in my life to have as a friend (it's so hard to connect with people). Your emotional connection to your past mindsets.. moved me. As did the show when I watched on the same scenes. You're a fantastic reactor and provide a lot to the world by being who you are. Don't forget that if you find yourself slipping back into old habits. I know its so easy to do. Happy I found your channel. You're special my guy. I cannot wait for you to get to the last couple episodes of this season. Peak television. Much like this episode.

hypocritex

As far as Louis calling Daniel "boy" its probably a call back to the fact that in the first book he was only referred to as "the boy". Daniel only got named later on in the book series.

Alexis Swinford

I have to ask, would Louis have stopped short of killing Daniel anyway even if Armand hadn't showed up?

Sam

I think it's clear that Armand has a trauma of being used, second plated, not wanted. Can we blame him? Louis is clearly using him (he loves him, kinda) to survive without Lestat and Claudia. He is missing Lestat and the toxicity in their relationship and calls Armand boring and beigest pillow lol, but Louis still wants you to be like: oh poor Louis, bad Armand. 😭 Are his actions great? No, he is a monster like any vampire in this series. But it's obvious to me that the need of manipulation that Armand feels comes from wanting love, to be put first at least one time. It's pretty similar to Claudia, honestly. Perhaps Armand feels the only way Louis could loved him like he loves Louis is controlling the narrative, to be always plotting to preserve their happiness. And that is so sad. To me, Armand is definitely the more tragic lead character in this series. And Louis has a peculiar tendency to justify his actions and completely villanise other characters whenever he feels like it 😂

Victoria

I loved this episode and your reaction was so on point!!! Also, I'm glad you shared your story with us, I also struggled with suicide and depression so yes, this episode hitted very hard! Also, I say it just as a suggestion because obviously is your thing and I love it! I just wish you watch some scenes almost un-cut and then come back again and disect and talk one you've seen them full just because they are so emotional and so well acted I think it looses it's grip by pausing almost at every phase. Just an observation and with all respect! Thank you for your reactions, they are the best! 💌

Victoria

Yesss! We love to see you dropping a new commentary episode on Lestat's birthday.!!

Maggie

I'd like to add these lines from TVL where Lestat describes Armand when he gets angry: "He was looking at me. And there came the horrible spectacle again of his face narrowing and darkening and caving in upon itself in rage. It was as if he had no real substance. Only will kept him robust and beautiful. And when the flow of his will was interrupted, he melted like a wax doll." Assad Zaman was cast so perfectly, it's like he read this and said "watch me work." He's brilliant.

Ana D.

*TW for mental illness/ideation talk* Thank you, so much, for being so open and honest about your experiences in this one. Everything you said resonated so much for me. Describing that feeling as being like an old friend that you can easily welcome back in, feeling like you're lost when it's not there - yeah. I'm relatively early in my SSRI journey but I remember, when the rawness of some of those feelings started to ease, I didn't feel like myself anymore. Even now, even as the ideation comes very infrequently, I still sometimes feel like I'm not quite myself without the worst of it. I don't WANT to feel that way, and I'm glad that most of the time I don't, but it felt so real and so integral to my experience that now, largely without it, there are times I almost miss it. ALMOST, lol. I don't genuinely miss it, but sometimes I wonder who I am without it. It was an anchor in every negative sense but it was still an anchor, always there, reassuring in the worst way. Thank you again. I feel a little less alone in this now. I'm so glad you're in a better place than you were. 💜 Oh and great reaction as always lmao, that's important too

Calluna Vulgaris

Thank you for opening up like that. I myself is going through a depression and seeking out mental help after years thinking about it and it interesting to get your point of view. Now, s*icide is a serious topic but i think lauhgter is important too in these bleak time and i just wanted to share two funny comments I came across on the internet about the Loumand fight scene: Damn! When Louis go low, Armand take it to hell! Armand win that fight so hard that Louis wanted to unalive himself.

Florius8

A nice detail: In S1 E1, Louis refers to Daniel as his “boy.” Daniel blows up on him and says “I’m not your fucking boy!” After that, Louis never refers to Daniel as ‘boy’ again. Louis stopped depersonalizing Daniel and was able to actually be honest (as much as he could) and connect to Daniel this time around.

Ana D.

Just a bit of clarification from your rewatch of Armand’s scene in episode 4. The Children of Darkness (coven that set fire to his maker) did not Free Armand. They enslaved him to their cult. For about 2-300 years prior to his & Lestat’s first meeting. Man Your Instincts & character analysis is Sooo Spot On!! I love it! And thank you for sharing . I too have been there. From the depths of despair, to seeking therapy, & managing it day to day. This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. When you go back and watch episode one it has so much more context now! Louis calling out to Daniel. Their very first scene together in episode 1. Louis smile at seeing Daniel as an old man, having gotten to live a full Life!! “You’ve grown old Daniel.” 🥹🥲

Paris Hardy

Movie man! You're a bright young reviewer with a point of view! And we love you for it ❤️

Javi-Aloi

Thank you for sharing parts of your story. I come here not only for your reactions but your thoughts and experiences to connect. I am happy you are here. I am happy I'm still here. I'm happy anyone watching this who has felt that way is also here.

Miki

Omg I’ve never put those two together before…now I’m suspicious 😂

Caitlin 🥀

My favorite details are watching louis eyes dilate with his moods when they close up on his face it's so subtle but effective

Miki

Thanks for trusting us with your story. Your commentary always makes me feel less alone

Carl Riden

Firstly I just want to thank you for being so open and vulnerable in this episode reaction, I think this one caused a lot of uneasy emotions to come forth in everyone who watched it. I loved what Eric said about Armand “lurking in the background” because that's exactly what happened in season 1 - he wanted to oversee the interview without being a character in it and sometimes I do believe Armand views himself as a 'background character'. If you think about Lestat, he was this shiny, extravagant, chaotic thing that commanded attention and adoration and Armand immediately wanted him. Louis in Paris was new and exciting and mirrored Lestats rebellious nature which is what drew Armand to him. They are all fascinating whereas Armand feels like he sinks in comparison. He’s so deeply insecure of still being in, not only the shadows, but Lestats shadow specifically especially with Louis. There is so much to talk about when it comes to Armand and Louis dynamic because it is so off-balanced. From the outside it doesn’t seem that way but scratch the surface and you start to see the cracks - “without him I am nothing” / “are you sure about that Arun” / “I preserve his happiness when he can’t or won’t”. ALSO I saw some people compare Daniel and Claudia arguing that Daniel is Armand and Louis' "Claudia" in that he represents the strength of their companionship - the same way that Claudia was turned to preserve Lestat and Louis' companionship.

Caitlin 🥀

Also small detail. Not a spoiler I promise. Remember how ep 4 ended. The vamp boys were fighting heated stuff. Start of ep 5? Louis is reset to his subdued happy housewife ways. Wonder how 🤔

Miki

Sending love from UK. I’ve just returned from a IWTV themed week in New Orleans. So gutted to see the shit that’s happening this last week. This episode is something else. I got to watch with a group of fellow vamps thankfully. Not sure I would have survived on my own. So sorry to hear of your struggles. Your honesty is humbling and I’m glad you are in a better place. The world is a much better place with you in it. I love your reviews and can’t wait for you to see the final 3 episodes 😘

Vampgirl1978

At first, I felt bad for Armand when Louis showed his nasty side towards him. But then he retaliated strongly enough by not putting Louis into the coffin and not giving him his blood sooner, and I quickly lost my empathy towards him, lol As you mentioned, Louis is definitely an emotional one in a relationship. He lashed out in a moment, but Armand’s payback was more calculated and prominent.

Helen

Thank you for entrusting us with your struggles and pain. As someone who suffers from depressive episodes, I have had suicidal ideation many times, though I've never gone so far as to attempt it or to make a plan. Sometimes, the pain is too heavy, and you just want it to stop. Know that I was crying with you as you shared your personal journey. Most importantly, I AM SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE. Here's a short poem that came to mind as I watched your reaction: "Sudden Hymn in Winter" by Joseph Fasano What if, after years of trial, a love should come and lay a hand upon you and say, this late, your life is not a crime

Melissa

We really needed this reaction after this election so thank you. And you didn't have to, but I'm glad you ran back that scene of Armand's backstory! Also, I'm a wine girl and I drink it everytime I watch IWTV, but I'm ngl you make me want to start trying whiskey lol This IS indeed an immensely heavy episode and I have similar experiences as you so I understand you 100%. This would've been a perfect episode for Halloween honestly, Armand is SO terrifying in it. And the tension was palpable. But Daniel and Louis manage to make all this trauma turn into something moderately cathartic and beautiful when you think about the connection they've formed.

Omg I was waiting all day lol

doodleydoo

Thanks for the timing. I so needed this to take my mind some place else.

Helen

i'm so excited to watch this!

trine ♡

ooooh very exciting. 30mins in, wanna address the 'boy' thing. Louis calls Daniel boy even from episode one and I believe it's a reference to how in the first book Daniel is never called by his name and is only called 'the boy'. His name doesn't even get mentioned until book 3 I believe.

Sólveig

I've been laid up in bed from a car wreck I was in on Monday. I'm pretty restless and sick of being stuck at home, but I'm so glad to have your content to binge! 😊

Riley

Thank you, I’m going to settle into this after work!

Tarabee

I just want to say that even though I’m from Ireland, I am so sorry at what you are all experiencing at the moment. The outpouring of grief is overwhelming and very much felt here too, I know I haven’t stopped crying since 😭 hold your friends close, find community wherever you can and keep searching for hope!
