Don’t be offended when I say I thought you were Canadian

One other nugget I wanted to mention is that they specifically cast many stage actors for these parts, and while I admire actors of all art forms, I really think this was a wise decision. Each episode feels very much like a play -- and then the play within the play at the theater -- along with a few episodes that feel like one-offs such as S2Ep5 (no spoilers!). Other than Jacob Anderson and having seen Eric Bogosian before, I didn't recognize any other actors going into this show. I liked that! (Oh, and Louis' mom -- I knew I had seen her before and then realized she was in "The Color Purple"). Some standouts for me aside from the leads (Sam, Jacob, Assad, Eric, Claudia x 2): the actor playing Tom Anderson in Season 1 was perfection (and apparently based on an actual historical person from that time period in N.O.), Ben Daniels (!) as Santiago, and Madeleine (dressmaker that Claudia visits in S2Ep2). In addition to Bogosian, you'll also recognize an actor playing a newly introduced character in the next episode -- also from "Succession"! :) :) :)

😂 Loved his Rolin. He’s just permanently rooted to that porch now commenting with his sweet tea

Lee

Your Rolin Jones impression kills me every time 😂 I'm SO glad you're releasing these uncut on Patreon and I can't wait to watch your reactions to the rest of this season!

I love the Paris scenes between Louis and Armand so much. Like in present day they're laying it on a bit too thick with the almost sitting in each other's lap and all that and I can see why Daniel isn't really buying it, but the actual scenes in Paris and the moment when they were reminiscing about their first meeting are genuinely very cute

Appreciate the clarification!

This would be a tricky one. See... I technically have watched Hannibal on my own, HOWEVER it was years ago and I don't recall every detail. So.. while I would very much enjoy watching the series and doing an analysis, I fear my reactions wouldn't be as genuine as I remember most of the primary plot points :(

"What happens next?" - Daniel. Earlier (in the last episode), Armand told Louis they could take back control of the interview and have Daniel ask that exact question. "We'll have him saying what happens next," is how Armand said it then. It comes across as a bit confusing, as if they are going to trick Daniel into assuming what is going to happen or seeing it from their perspective. Instead, Armand meant it literally, they will push Daniel off-kilter, back into his younger-self (and less domineering) interviewer who only asks, "What happens next?" instead of adding personal observations and snide remarks. Should vampires have the same moral standards as humans? Is Claudia pickpocketing random people more reprehensible than if she lured someone into a dark alley, drained them, and THEN took all their cash/valuables? Would you rather have your wallet stolen or be dead? Without any support or knowledge of the city, they can't be hunting the rich folks or even know who's truly got money or who is making a show of it in this war-torn Paris. They could turn into burglars, I suppose, but holding down a "normal" night job is probably too dangerous/bizarre for them. Louis only ever ran his own businesses and Claudia never did any kind of work. Interesting that Armand's choice for the Murder Mansion scene was a gathering of war profiteers (and probably Nazi sympathizers) who were taking much more advantage of other humans than the vampires are. They are hunting the evildoers, in their own twisted way (we never know why they picked poor Anikka as their stage victim).

I love this reaction and I love this episode!!! Thank you for seeing the behind the scenes!!! They are so important, It adds so much value to the show, as you say it's fascinating all of this people putting their passion for everything to be perfect.

Victoria

I need you say “A Vile Hunger For Your Hammering Heart” every episode!! Lmaoooo your impressions kill me. Glad you’re loving the show

Paris Hardy

"And I LOVE you for it" -- I see what you did there. I also love that he watches them, esp this season when they're so rich.

Last correspondence was 1940, not 1914.

when you finish iwtv i think you should watch NBC's hannibal tv show! its got similar vibes in the gothic horror/romance sense with a very complicated/toxic/love between the two main characters! it has excellent cinematography and sound design and has probably my favorite written dialogue in any show ever! its three season and 13 episodes a season, but its amazing and i think your in depth style of commentary and analysis would be amazing to pair with such a layered show!

You asked about the “maitre is a coven endearment, Armand for you” line. To avoid spoiling anything I’ll just say that “maitre” means master, so calling it an endearment might be a little euphemistic, it might be more like a title.

Valaree

What I love about this show is what they did specifically with Lestats characterisation especially in this season because even though he isn't physically there or in many scenes - you feel the weight and gravity of him lurking in it or you're constantly aware/thinking about how he would react to this. I hate to say that I'm already missing Lestat haha and that his death letter did bring a tear to the eye! even in that moment, such soft words but an underlying threat is being levied "but its a thin veil and I'm always on the other side" - it perfectly encapsulates him as a character! There's a gentleness, an empathy and understanding laced throughout his acts of violence and humiliation. Makes it hard to hate him and all too easy to forgive lol

Absolutely loving your reactions and how in depth you go. Urging you to avoid spoilers -- it may be hard, but I promise this journey is so much sweeter going in without any hints or outright spoiler info. :)

I've generally stayed pretty quiet in your comments (I have too much to say about this show and not enough energy to type it out everytime I watch a reaction), but I wanted to chime in since I'm finally able to support on Patreon! Thank you for all your reactions to this show, your insight is fascinating and your personality is a joy. Sounds ridiculous, but I appreciate your emotional intelligence when it comes to this show, even if you might "overthink" it's always great to hear such focused and well thought out commentary. Also, I wanted to say that while your praise for the writing and dialogue of the show is valid, some thing you attributed as likely coming from the books, actually isn't the case. The show is closer to the books than the movie in some regards, but at the end of the day Anne Rice's series provided a lovely framework that the writers and actors and producers have done an entire thing of their own with. For example, Louis and Claudia's sojourn through Europe in the 1st episode is not nearly an detailed as it is for the show. Another is the whole Louis/Armand/Daniel present day element. While Louis is doing an interview with Daniel in the books, Armand is not there and there is not the whole "dual drama" happening as well. Hell, in the first book Daniel didn't even have a name, he was just called The Boy the whole time lol I say all this to say that, a lot of people chalk up all the best moments of the show to be the best of the books, when it's really a matter of just as much well written dialogue and plot moments came from the books, also came from the crew working on this show! And another thing, you might be the only reactor I can think of off the top of my head that watches the episode insiders (on camera at least) and I LOVE you for it! Episode insiders are like must watches when I watch shows that have them and I love that you enjoy the behind the scenes so much.
