Peek Q&A Three!
Added 2023-07-16 22:17:48 +0000 UTCLots of great questions in the last nudge, and I think a lot will be expanded into full peeks on their own. Thank you everyone for the replies, lets get to the questions and answers!
Orlando Escobales asks about Coda's architectural style. At the moment, Coda is very into archways and columns, lending his designs a very roman look. This partially stems from him being very function over form, and arches are excellent when building with stone. He'll probably have his mind blown when Thedeim introduces him to gothic architecture and flying buttresses.
Jeremy Kosove asks about Tarl's life before inspecting, and about undead spawners. While his questions about the spawners will have to wait for the story, Tarl's life was rather unstable before being apprenticed to Inspector Listor. He had an uncanny knack for finding employment somewhere shortly before they'd go out of business. His first adventuring group dissolved when two members has to duck out of delving thanks to an unexpected pregnancy. A thief's guild tried to strongarm him into joining, and were successful until the guards busted them up a few months later. He tried to join those same guards, but he just didn't have the temperament for the job. He even tried to join the rangers. While he performed the duties well, they simply didn't have enough work for him to do to make a living. Thankfully for him, that kind of wide range of experience is exactly what the Dungeoneer's Guild wants in their inspectors.
Vik M asks about elementals. Yes, there are elementals for every known affinity, even the odd ones like kinetic and fate. He specifically asks about life and death elementals and what they look like, and their appearances will depend on where they are. Most often, life elementals are made up of life. One in a forest may look like a writhing mass of vines, flowers, and bugs. Death elementals are similar, though a death elemental in a forest may look like a mound of leaf-liter with bones sticking out of it. As for elemental dwellers, not many dungeons upgrade the spawners far enough to gain elemental dwellers. Dwarves are earth elementals, the elusive Djinn are air elementals, the reclusive Efriti are fire elementals, and the nomadic Selki are water elementals. So far, only dwarves have the numbers to have actual political power.
Shro the Omnipotent asks about Thedeim's potential divinity and how the gods work in general. It's a difficult subject to explain because how does one define a god? Someone very powerful? Someone immortal? Even the gods are very elusive when it comes to the subject. It gets even more convoluted when the mechanics of Faith magic are brought in. Faith magic also follows the various affinities, but goes about enforcing those affinities differently from traditional magic. If arcane casting tends to be more academic, faith casting is more artistic. Arcane users have correct and incorrect ways to cast something, while faith users have a bit more leeway, though the object of their faith will often provide guidelines. The math behind physics may be set in stone, but one can paint like a cubist, or an impressionist, or maybe try the impeccable realism of the Renaissance artists, and who is to say which is the correct style? Most generally, the accepted gods are the ones who are more willing to directly share and guide those who have faith in them.
Magnadra asks about the final form of the squeaky door trap. While the details are beyond mortal ken, it's not dissimilar to setting off an air raid siren while also giving those denizens who hear it super-soldier serum, and sticking a big neon sign over whoever set the trap off.
And I think that's it for this one? So many suggestions for more in-depth peeks that I'll certainly be looking into for a while to come, so don't be discouraged if I didn't get to your question! If you had one that you were hoping to see answered here, please do repost it in the latest nudge, if it's not already there. I do try to go back and look at them all, but it's not uncommon for me to simply miss something, so don't be afraid to repeat yourself.
One again, thank you all for your support and I hope you enjoyed the peek :)

I wonder how the inspector knew there was a brand new dungeon when thedeim didn't have any outside activity.

2023-11-28 09:26:14 +0000 UTCAn earth elemental dweller is quite divorced from rock imagery, perhaps a fate dweller may end up like a leprechaun or a hobbit who is lucky or a mystic with various fortune telling techniques

2023-07-17 17:31:28 +0000 UTCI imagine it is also very hard to see a fate elemental unless they wanna be seen. I feel like they would look like something divination style to whatever area they exist in, like the tome for a house or library or a stick that falls in certain directions in the Forrest.

2023-07-17 05:24:50 +0000 UTCSpace elemental? Is it just a moving black hole? Could it just distort the view of anyone that looks directly at it? Would it just live in Teemos shortcuts? I'm in love with the diversity of elementals already! π₯°

2023-07-17 04:09:45 +0000 UTCSO MANY ELEMENTALS My mind is blown trying to even begin imagining some of the more esoteric ones, like Fate elementals-are they bundles of parchment and thread, with a couple scissor blades thrown in? Butterflies surrounded by wild winds? Overly detailed flying books about the future? Eyes?
