Peek: Legs

The centipede scion thinks to himself as he rests, coiled around Violet's core.  She has tasked him to be her Guardian, and he is honored to do his duty.  He just wishes it was more consistent.  Much of his time is spent doing very little, though at least Cappy is able to keep him company and talk about the outside.  Most of what Cappy has to say is about the tunnel horrors, but even talking about those is more interesting than just sitting there.

Most of the rest of his time is spent fighting the invaders that seek to harm Violet.  Cappy's information is invaluable to Legs, letting him swiftly leave the sanctum to deal with larger threats, secure in knowing that Cappy will warn him if anything is getting too close.

The rest of his time is spent worrying, and the Mentor's Voice has said if Legs had hair, he'd be going bald from it.  He's not sure how those are related, but the Voice has a strange way of imparting wisdom.  Maybe it'll make sense as he grows and ages.

Of course, that assumes he'll have the chance to grow and age.  So much of what's outside is so much stronger than him, Cappy, and Violet.  While the Mentor is a blessing for them, Legs knows they have to grow stronger if Violet ever hopes to take on her own Protege.  While she is more interested in fighting strength after the Mentor's show with the metallic snake, she still has a long way to go.

Which means Legs has a long way to go, too.  But where to even begin?  Violet asked how she could get something like the strong scions the Mentor has, and he said she needs to do more preparations before she can make something like what he has.  He also suggested a metalworks, and that small room has captured Legs' attention.

While Violet has yet to make her new scions, she did still make the room.  It hasn't seen any use yet, but Legs is more and more tempted to change that.  Nodding to himself, he asks Cappy to keep him informed, then uncoils from Voilet's core and makes his way to the new room.

He pauses on his way to pry a bit of metal from one of the ore nodes.  From what the gremlins say, it's not especially strong, but it will do for him to test out the metalworks.

The room is still incredibly basic, containing only the rudimentary means to heat, shape, and work metal.  Still, it's remarkably intuitive.  He'll need to melt the bit of ore he has, as it's still not pure.  There's a bit of clay if he wishes to make a mold for something, or simple casts for ingots.  A rough stone to sharpen, a flat stone to hammer on, a smaller stone to hammer with, and a hook to fit around the small crucible all round out his tools

He looks at the bit of ore, wondering what to do with it, and inspiration strikes.  The weapon one of the delvers had, the new one.  It made Violet think of a centipede leg.  Could Legs make a metal leg for stabbing?  After considering it for a few moments, he places the ore into the crucible and sets it over the fire.  There seems to be one way to find out.
