Watched on: Disney+ / Runtime: 2:00:37

Hope you enjoy!

 Thor: Love and Thunder

This film feels like two different films. I wonder if the Korg storytelling part was added in reshoots to explain away the poor mixing of tones. Also Korg said he had a mom in Ragnarok and in this film he says he has two dads, so which is it? Seems like an attempt at inclusivity that creates a character continuity issue.

Carl Johnson

they literally confirmed hemsworth's return in doomsday the same day you posted this comment

Why are you here? Spending money on someone’s Patreon to be so vile and rude?

Jane was not worthy of lifting the hammer nobody who commits domestic assault like she did to Thor (in The Dark World). They've made Thor look like an idiot for the last 2 movies and that's why Hemsworth is unlikely to come back. I personally don't blame him.

Ok

It's shit, and you have to either be a woman who hates men or a man who hates yourself to like it.

Albert Nada

Thor being flicked by Zeus was a sexual assault and not funny. Anybody who thought it was is disgusting. This movie was garbage even more so than Ragnarok. On top of everything else that piece of garbage Valkyrie victim blames him, it's disgusting.

A lot of people do not like the humor of this movie but, I gotta say the more I watch it, the more I subscribe to the notion that the entire movie is being told my Korg, hence some of the silly humor that's a little different from Ragnarok. I still enjoy this entry very much.

First time seeing this since the theater and I'd forgotten how awesome Christan Bale was as Gorr! He was intense and a lot more scary than I recalled! He really is just an amazing actor! It is kind of funny that is you play a hero in a DC movie you play a villain in a MCU movie and vice versa as well. Even Ryan Reynolds played Green Lantern, but his first Deadpool in the first Wolverine movie was more of a villain.

Ed Scoglio

My theory is Zeus’ Thunderbolt helped Thor channel his power to lend to the kids.

TheEbonyElephant

My god I can't wait for season 2 of Loki. It is soooooo good!

Being completely honest, this movie wasn’t necessarily my favorite. A lot of people including most of the reactors who have seen this movie would say there was more potential with Gorr the God Butcher. I did like his performance though. As far as comedy goes, they tried a little too hard to be funny. Still, my favorite funny moment was Thor dissing Gorr’s dental work. A decade ago I never imagined they would implement the screaming goat meme into a comic book film, but here we are. They don't mention their names out loud, but they're called Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder. The New Asgard tour guide is Darryl Jacobson. He appeared in the Team Thor One-Shots and starred in his own short titled Team Darryl. I had a feeling that the title Love and Thunder had a deeper meaning, but I didn’t expect it to be nicknames for Thor and his new daughter. Gorr's daughter Love was portrayed by Chris Hemsworth's real-life daughter India Rose. In fact, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, and Taika Waititi had their kids join as some of New Asgard's children. Not only that, the kids who were brought to set were asked to draw monsters on paper. Then those drawings were submitted to the visual development team to create the shadow monsters that we see in the final film. The idea started when Taika’s daughter drew a monster and showed it to her dad, and that was in the early stages of development. They had yet to start filming at the time. In the timeline, this movie takes place between Endgame and the Guardians’ holiday special which you’ve already seen. After parting ways with Thor and Korg, the Guardians would purchase Knowhere from the Collector, release Cosmo from the collection, and welcome her to the team. The purchase must’ve been worth a fortune, but I’m guessing the Guardians were able to afford it by answering all those distress calls regarding Gorr. I know we still have a ways to go, but I can’t tell you how excited I am for you to get to Volume 3. Until then… Once it was Thanos for Infinity War… Then it was the Avengers for Endgame… And then Spider-Man for No Way Home… And now, the Guardians of the Galaxy demand our silence.

It's not a favorite but definitely entertaining! And I think the Jane and thor relationship stuff worked well in this! I love your analysis of thor in this too. Your story take on why he's just comedic relief then getting that hero status again is awesome. Although I enjoy the movie the thor comic this is based on would have been much more epic! So overall like this movie but omg that comic. Would you consider reading some key stories?

MCU/Comic book nerd here. This movie was just ok. The Eternals was another movie that was just ok. I think the TV shows have been better than the Movies in phase 4 and phase 5. Eternity looks like that in the comics. Anyway, this movie is getting deeper into the history of the Universe. In the beginning, there was The One Above All. The One Above All decided to create a female called Nemesis. Nemesis existed for a long time all by herself in the Cosmos. Eventually, she became so lonely that she exploded from grief. This is Marvel's explanation of the Big Bang. From the explosion, 8 Infinity stones are created. I know, the MCU had only 6. In the Comics, there were 8. The explosion also created very powerful beings. Eternity, Infinity (which is Eternity's sister), Oblivion and Death. By the way, this Death is not Hela. Meanwhile, the First Firmament (the first Universe) shatters and becomes the Multiverse. The Celestials are also created at this time. Think of the Multiverse as a big garden and the Celestials are the gardeners.

I decided to rewatch this with you. I thought maybe I had judged it too harshly the first time I watched it. But I didn't. It's awful. There are fun moments, but overall, nope. Deadpool nailed it when he said it was a bit of a low point.

Michael Dellinger

Awww the Phone Case shame is sooo relatable 📱😅

Marshariki Bowie

There is Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, aired on Adult Swim. Acts as an attorney for iconic cartoons, who just happens to be a Superhero.

What I Loved :D There’s a lot I liked about this movie. Gorr was an amazing villain, and Christian Bale absolutely killed it. The black-and-white Shadow Realm scenes were visually stunning, and even the little cameo of Eternity was cool, though he didn’t really do anything his design is pulled directly out of the comics. Also, I loved seeing All-Black, the Necrosword, the weapon Gorr uses in the film to kill gods. In the comics, it was forged by Knull, the creator of the Symbiotes, which you'll recognize from the Spider-Man movies, characters like Venom, etc. Loved the intro showcasing different stages of Thor’s life, especially how they gave young Thor a comic-accurate recreation of his original outfit from the comics. The scene of Falligar the Behemoth, with Thor overlooking the corpse, was pulled directly from Thor: God of Thunder #3 (2012). Even the rocks are in the same place, making it one of the most comic-accurate shots in the entire MCU, minus Korg standing beside Thor. I also loved the statues depicting Eternity, Infinity, The Living Tribunal, and what looks to be a Watcher. As a massive Cosmic Marvel fan (thanks to the Silver Surfer), I really appreciate seeing these elements. The production design team did an amazing job crafting these worlds, bringing that larger-than-life cosmic scale to the screen. I can never get enough of Cosmic Marvel. Seeing Jane Foster as Mighty Thor was one of the better parts of the movie. Natalie Portman did a solid job, and it was great to see her finally get more to do in the MCU. Seriously, what’s up with the MCU constantly forgetting about love interests? Looking at you, Betty Ross. ----------------------------------------------------------- What Didn’t Work for Me :( Overall, It felt way too much like a parody. "Batman & Robin" is probably the best comparison to this film. It started with Batman (1989), a darker, gritty, noir take on the character, inspired by his Golden Age, Bronze Age, and modern comics. That was followed by Batman Returns (1992), which faced backlash for being too dark and violent, especially from parents and sponsors, leading Warner Bros. to lighten things up. Tim Burton stepped down, and Warner Bros. brought in Joel Schumacher for Batman Forever (1995), which was more fun and marketable, though it originally had some darker elements, like Bruce dealing with his trauma and a deleted scene of him confronting his fears in a cave. Then Batman & Robin (1997) went full camp, super over-the-top, toyetic, and completely unserious, which backfired and not only killed the Batman franchise for years but also put live-action superhero films on ice for a while. There’s a great movie in here somewhere, but it felt like Taika Waititi went overboard. For me, this is one of the weakest MCU films, far below Thor: Ragnarok, which balanced humor much better and felt fresh at the time, especially following the success of Guardians of the Galaxy. -------------------------------------------------------------- Moving Forward Thankfully, every MCU movie after this has surpassed Love and Thunder. I just hope they find a way to bring Thor back in a big, meaningful way after this misstep. Love and Thunder didn’t do him justice for me, but there’s still potential for an incredible Thor film, especially with the right director. I’ve heard George Miller, the director behind the Mad Max films, is interested in directing a Thor movie, and I’d be 100% on board for that. His ability to craft epic, mythic action with stunning visuals would be a perfect fit for Thor. Bring back some of that darkness, make it a heavy metal fable, and let Thor feel truly legendary again. Even Chris Hemsworth admitted that the movie leaned too much into silliness and that the humor was overdone. If Thor ever returns, he believes the character should take a fresh approach, something George Miller could offer. Miller worked with Hemsworth on Furiosa (2024) as well, where Hemsworth played a visually very Thor-like character. Overall, it’s a fun movie, but a lot of it didn’t work or land for me the way Ragnarok did. But I’m glad people find enjoyment in it, hell, I enjoy Batman Forever, so I get it! lol

LittleGalaxyBoy

Also they actually did say that the “first” person to reach eternity gets a wish. So since Gorr got there first he was the only one to wish.

Love your reactions! I really appreciate that you give movies a chance and try to look for the positives instead of shitting on it the whole time like a lot of other reactors lol. Also do you have PO Box? I found a case that is both cute AND tough, yah know, so you don’t have to carry that brick around haha

Alex Ocean

She hulk is awesome! Straight up comedy show very enjoyable

Armando Castillo

Thanks for the reaction, Jax! It's not my favorite MCU film either, but there's still fun to be had. The horrible screaming goats are loosely based on myth: Thor has two goats (Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr) who pull his chariot. They don't usually scream though. As for Thor granting his power to the kids at the end, honestly I think it's the kind of thing that would never ever occur to him until that moment. He figures adults will take care of themselves, and basically nobody is worthy anyhow. If they misused his powers and messed something up he'd feel responsible, after all. I do appreciate how Gorr's whole journey of god-killing was started by his own (unworthy) god, who told him there is no afterlife, no reward for the faithful. Gorr's takeaway was that all gods are like this, but... at the end we SEE the reward for the Asgardian faithful, as Jane enters Valhalla. She-Hulk next week? I'm really looking forward to your reactions. It's one of my favorite MCU shows, and it's not much like any other.

Another thing. The actor of “Love” is Chris hemsworth’s real life daughter! and I agree that it isn’t my favourite movie but I had a good time every time I watched it. This movie is absolutely hated online but I enjoy it. I have my problems with it. Particularly with the ramped up humour. Sometimes it’s too much. But I sometimes feel like people online didn’t watch the same movie I did. Because you made a great point. At the beginning thor is super comedic relief. Not a good leader either. But once he reconnects with Jane he gains back his confidence. He becomes more serious. And becomes a leader. I feel like some people fell asleep during that scene because I always see people online saying “Thor can’t take anything seriously” But that moment with Jane with the space dolphins is my favourite scene in the movie. He lets his guard down. Drops the humour. His “you made me worthy” is such a good line. It shows that Thor uses comedy as a coping mechanism And I’m sure marvel knowing that the humour has been controversial, paired with Jane telling him to “open his heart” at end, will likely have Thor in future appearances become a bit more serious. He now has an adopted daughter to take care of. I also really liked Jane as Mighty Thor. In the comics she also has cancer. I really enjoyed her character and how the cancer was written. I also really enjoyed her trying to work out a catchphrase. And I LOVED how Mjolnir broke into many pieces. Loved it Also I really enjoyed how he gave the kids the power of Thor. It’s like a full circle moment. Thor stepping into a similar role to Odin. Casting a spell. Thor’s mom was raised by witches, Loki is a sorcerer, Odin knows magic. I don’t think Thor is well trained in magic. But during tough times he can summon immense power like he did in that scene Which is why I don’t think he could’ve given his power to the adults earlier in the movie. I think he just really needed to be desperate. If he had more training maybe. But Thor has always been more of a warrior, fighting battles head on, than a sorcerer like Loki

Great reaction! Just one quick thing to clear things up. They actually did explain why only one person gets a wish They said “the first person to find eternity” Which means no body in the history of the universe had ever gotten to eternity. Gorr was the first. And only the first get the wish. As to why? That part isn’t explained. But I like to think of it as just another part of mythology. Since Thor is based off the real life Norse god. And in real life there’s a lot of folktales meant to teach lessons that aren’t necessarily the most logical but just fun stories to tell your kids

Connor Vide

The young lady that plays "Love" is actually Chris Hemsworth's daugther. BRING on Roy Kent's Hercules!!!!
