This film is so unique because it adapts elements from at least three different storylines in the comics. 1. Ultimate Fallout #4 (2011) & Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #1 (2011) Firstly, it draws from Ultimate Fallout #4 (2011), which introduced Miles Morales and explored the aftermath of 16-year-old Peter Parker’s death. Peter was killed in Ultimate Spider-Man #160 (2011) by the Green Goblin when the Sinister Six attacked him outside Aunt May's house. He dies surrounded by May, MJ, and Gwen. In Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #1 (2011), Miles is bitten by a spider and we follow him as the next Spider-Man. For context, all of this takes place in the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610), a reimagined and modernized continuity designed for 21st-century readers. The Ultimate Universe began with Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (2000) as a fresh jumping-on point, separate from the mainline Marvel continuity. 2. Spider-Men (2012) Secondly, the film takes inspiration from Spider-Men (2012), in which the older, mainline Spider-Man from Earth-616 is transported to the Ultimate Universe. There, he meets Miles Morales, is captured by S.H.I.E.L.D., and learns about the differences between their worlds. For example, in the Ultimate Universe, the Avengers are called the Ultimates, Nick Fury is Black and was visually based on Samuel L. Jackson (which later influenced his casting in the MCU), and Peter Parker is of course deceased. Other notable differences include the Ultimate Green Goblin, who is a massive, hulking, goblin-like creature, this version later inspired the one seen in Into the Spider-Verse (2018). During his time in the Ultimate Universe, Peter even visits his counterpart’s Aunt May and meets a teenage Gwen Stacy, who never died in this reality. However, teenage MJ refuses to show up since his death had a major impact on her life. At one point, Gwen asks, "Do I exist in your world?" Peter carefully works around the question, simply stating that she’s older, without revealing that she’s dead. Before returning to his own universe, he gives Miles some advice. In the film, Peter B. Parker serves as a stand-in for the mainline Spider-Man, as his world closely resembles our own and aligns more with the mainline comics, while Miles’ universe represents the Ultimate Universe, at least in how it uses Miles becoming Spider-Man after the death of Peter Parker. 3. Spider-Verse (2014) Lastly, the film draws from the Spider-Verse (2014) comics, which featured a multiversal team-up of Spider-People against a common threat. The film introduces many different Spider-People, though all of them were originally created before this storyline, including Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, and Spider-Ham. In the comics, this event took place after Secret Wars (2015), when the Ultimate Universe was destroyed and Miles Morales was integrated into the Prime Marvel Universe (Earth-616). So during these Spider-Verse crossovers Miles was apart of the Prime Marvel Universe, alongside Spider-Man Prime.

I think you'd love the Marvels Spider-Man series of game so good!

So, when I first saw this movie, I went in totally blind. My niece, who was 12 at the time and now it's hitting me how damn fast time flies by, really wanted to see it. My sister had no interest so she asked me to take her instead and I was just so blown away by how great this was!! Loved the animation style! It is truly art in my eyes! Can't wait to see you react to the next one!!!

This movie... is amazing. It hit at a very significant time for me, coming when I was making a leap of faith of my own as a stepfather. So, I feel that message of needing to do your own thing your own way in a very powerful way. And, hey. My leap of faith may not have played out the way that I hoped it would, but... I don't regret taking it. I still haven't quite landed, but when all is said and done, my goal is to give a wonderful kid the best opportunity that I can, even if things haven't worked out between me and their mother. As for the second movie... I'm glad that you are going to get to see it sooner rather than later, and... I'm sorry. The third movie is still years away. They're talking about 2027 for it. The big writer's strike really sent its development into a tailspin, and Sony has not... really recovered from that. It hasn't helped that some of their other Spider-Man adjacent movies from the last couple of years (Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter) have been... pretty major flops, financially. At least their Venom movies were just amazing XD Also! You really need to do a quick follow-up video, where you watch the last bits of the credits! The scene you skipped at the very end is actually kind of critically relevant XD I'll have more to say when you go Across the Spider-Verse, though ;)

It was fun to rewatch this for the first time in a while. It dawned on me that Kingpin has the same motivation and plan as Wanda in Multiverse of Madness. The movies are quite different tonally and thematically though.

Mike Smith

We need a fast track of the sequel. Cmon Jax!

BIG MATT

The animation in this film is incredible, and yet somehow the second film absolutely blows it away.

Andy Munden

The good news is the next one does not have an end credit scene.

Joe

I'll have to go back and watch it!

Jacqueline

I'll have to go back and watch it!!

Great reaction, so glad you liked the movie. It's definitely a lot of peoples favorite spidey movie. A fun fact that is often mentioned for this movie, is that Miles is animated "in twos", meaning that while the background scene and other characters all run on 24 frames per second, Miles was animated with 12 frames per second, making his motion more stuttered. So in the forest scene where Miles and Peter are swinging, Miles is swinging and running in 12fps, and peter in 24fps, signifying that Miles is inexperienced and Peter is more mature and experienced. Then at the end of the movie, Miles takes his leap of faith and is now animated "on Ones", meaning at the full 24fps, showing how he's now fully come into his role as the new Spider-Man.

😍

Cojuancidence

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're going to love it!

The Dingo

Technically some of these characters have kind of already been in the MCU, at least by name. In Spiderman: Homecoming when Peter is working on investigating the weapons source one of the people he tracks is Aaron Davis and it lists "The Prowler" as one of his aliases. When he catches (Donald Glover) in the garage he mentions his nephew who lives in Queens, who we know is Miles.

Steve J

I’ve never seen this before so this will be a first time for me as well.

Alex Gorell

It was Chris Pine! You were good at hearing who it was! And yesss nick from New girl Jake Johnson is so good as this jaded spiderman lol I related to the hobo spiderman lol miles is most definitely from the comics actually pretty new compared to the other characters. Aaron Davis aka prowler was in homecoming played by childish Gambino if you go back he mentions he didn't want those weapons around cause he has a nephew that lives in New York

Armando Castillo

hey I promised to be here when you do Spider-verse and so I am here 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed it! This was from 2018 the same year as Infinity War... and I think they collaborated with the larger story line. So this introduces the multi-verse, and foreshadow the "other" verse shenanigans.

Mannygogou

The 1967 Spider-Man cartoon is the best, be up on that, along with Rocket Robinhood and The Mighty Hurcules. Peter Porker is fun, but i like Spider-Man Noir the best.

Stan Johnston

You missed an end credit scene. Maybe you could react to it separately the way you react to trailers? Also fun fact, Fisk was a Spider-Man villain first in the comics. Before he was a daredevil villain! These days he’s more of a daredevil villain but it’s still like a 60-40 split. King pin is in a ton of Spider-Man comics It’s why Sony (who owns Spider-Man) and Disney (who owns Daredevil) share the rights to kingpin Also yes, most Spider people from this movie are from the comics. Except the two Peters. The one who dies, and Peter B Parker (the one in sweatpants) Those two are heavily inspired/based on comic variants but aren’t a 1:1 comparison. Whereas Peni Parker (robot), Spider-Man Noir (Nic Cage), Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Ham are all directly from the comics!! Great reaction! This and it’s sequel are some of my favourite spider-man movies. Top 3 for me

Connor Vide

Awww you not only missed the end credit scene, you missed Chris Pine singing Spidey Bells! But I'm glad you liked the movie! This and the next are two of my favorites! Sooo good. On a completely unrelated note,if you haven't seen it,you should watch Everything Everywhere All At Once!

Excuse My Brains

Yes, all of the spider characters that you saw in this movie and will see in the sequel have their own individual comic history. They didn’t have to create any for the movie, there’s already hundreds to choose from in the comics.

AJ Franklin

Man if you loved this one, I CANNOT WAIT to hear what you think of the second one omg. Has to be one of my favorite movies of all time!

Alex Ocean

So there IS a post-credit scene at the very end and it mildly sets up the second movie. And, believe it or not, Across the Spider-Verse is even better.

Tony M

I feel like I've been waiting for this for years. Am very excite

Steve J

Marshariki Bowie

ooo, if it wasnt 3AM id watch this now, but i'll have to save it for tomorrow after work

IncredibleBulk

I’m so glad you reacted to this, I think it’s so well done in terms of story and animation! It always irks me when people won’t watch something because it’s “Just a cartoon.” I feel like they miss out on some great quality stuff like Avatar, Gravity Falls and this. I’m so thrilled you chose to experience it!

LET’S GOOOOOO

Miles is Afro-Latino. He’s African American through his father Jefferson (or Jeff) and Puerto Rican through his mother Rio. If you think about it, the term no expectations has several different meanings: 1.) Miles' parents and teachers wanting him to succeed 2.) the Spider crew giving him a hard time assuming he can learn as fast as they did 3.) the box office Given the reputation that Sony Pictures Animation has compared to other animation studios, some people feared that it wasn’t going to be successful. Even though not many people invested in it the first time like they did with the live-action Spider-Man films, this movie still set the bar high for animation, made more in the box office than it was spent on, and introduced many people to Miles and other Spider-Heroes. Over the past few years, many other reactors have also watched this movie for the first time and given their own positive thoughts about it. Most of them have also reacted to the MCU – some of them in its’ entirety. Those include but are not limited to Mary Cherry, Natalie Gold, Sebscreen, Laila Naema, Addie Counts, AkinReacts, Rico & Monica, Alex Hefner, Mr. Video, MellVerse, BillyBinges, Don Townsend, Movies with Mary, The Perfect Mix, Emme and Kaielle. I hope Ashleigh Burton will check it out soon as well. What’s still peculiar to me is that they implemented comic books in a comic book film. It’s kinda ironic because that’s not something usually done with superhero comic book films which have become the norm. The entire film itself is one massive comic book. From the speech bubbles to the text boxes to the panels to the splash art, it’s almost as if us the audience are flipping through the pages as we’re watching the film. We also got the most wholesome Stan Lee cameo ever. This film premiered about a month after he passed away. The What’s Up Danger scene continues to be one of the best superhero moments ever. Miles got the confidence he needed to hear from his father, creates his own Spider-Man suit, and takes the leap of faith with What’s Up, Danger playing in the background. I also thought it was cool to see Miles take that first leap with an upside-down city in the background. It represents that he’s rising up. His origin story culminates with his own signature comic, and his first solo swing run shows that he’s finally prepared to fulfill his calling. I also loved Miles’ closing monologue. Spider-Man has been my favorite Marvel character since I was a kid, but when Miles said anyone can wear the mask, I felt moved. My biggest hope is kids who watch this movie feel that way as well and imagine themselves as their own version of a Spider-Hero. And finally, late musician Juice WRLD collaborated with Seezyn in the song called Hide. Juice would have been 26 today.
