Hey everyone! I was supposed to post this over the weekend, but I caught the flu and have been a little out of it. So, this is coming a day late. Sorry about that! Hope you are all staying healthy, because it seems like everyone is coming down with something.

Here is my reaction to the Fantastic Four Teaser Trailer!

I also wanted to review where I'm at in Phase 4 of the MCU and see what projects are coming out in Phase 5! I'll be reacting to Ms Marvel this week which should be pretty exciting.

Hope you enjoy!!

Fantastic Four Teaser Trailer + MCU Chat

Fantastic Four birthed Marvel: The Fantastic Four essentially gave birth to the Marvel Universe with Fantastic Four #1 (1961), the first comic published under the Marvel Comics banner after Stan Lee and Jack Kirby revitalized what was formerly known as Timely Comics and Atlas Comics. Stan Lee was tasked with creating a rival to DC’s Justice League of America, but instead of forming a traditional superhero team with secret identities, he and Kirby created a family whose identities were publicly known from the start. They were Marvel’s First Family, and in many ways, they became the heart of the Marvel Universe, capturing the admiration of both the readers and the people within this fictional Marvelous world. Within the Marvel Universe, the arrival of the Fantastic Four also marked the beginning of the Age of Heroes. Shortly after their debut, superpowered individuals began emerging in greater numbers, ushering in a new era that shaped the Marvel Universe we see today. From Iron Man, the Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor, Ant-Man, and the Wasp to the X-Men and the Avengers, the rise of these heroes followed in the wake of the Fantastic Four, making the Fantastic Four the first heroes of the Marvel Age of Comics. Trailer Thoughts: I loved this trailer and how it captures the hopeful excitement of the Space Age, a time when astronauts were treated like celebrities, just like the Fantastic Four in the comics. The '60s to '70s retro-futuristic setting is stunning and really showcases the impact the F4 have had on this world in terms of technological advancements. It’s dripping with personality, something the previous films lacked. Plus, with the WandaVision director at the helm, you know the period details are going to be spot-on. Take that final shot, where the F4 are on stage surrounded by arrows, that’s a nod to another Fab Four, The Beatles, when they performed on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, with floating arrows in the background. The Thing (Rocky boi) looks fantastic, they pulled Jack Kirby's design straight from the comics. I've seen many people complaining about his height, but in canon, the Thing is only around 6 feet tall. Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal's character) is an inch taller. The Thing is not meant to be Hulk-sized, though in more modern comics, he's often depicted as being closer to 6'5". So ultimately, it depends on the artist, still nowhere near the size of The Hulk. Galactus looks stunning (the massive figure overlooking New York), he’s one of my personal favorite characters. People are even complaining about his height, but I can't say much for spoiler reasons. However, his height in this trailer is comic-accurate. Galactus may be one of my favorite characters, but there's another character with strong ties to him who is my favorite Marvel character of all time, and I hope to see him in the MCU down the line as well. And of course, Michael Giacchino, the composer of this film, who has already created the definitive Fantastic Four theme, also composed the music for The Incredibles (both Part 1 and Part 2). Those films, inspired by The Fantastic Four, share a similarly retro-futuristic vibe and, for many, remain the best unofficial Fantastic Four films to date. His music for Fantastic Four so far is, well… fantastic. I’ve been listening to the theme nonstop since it was played live at the Infinity Saga Concert back in August.

I was thinking about giving you the 4 line version of their origin - But I am positive they are going to do it. Surfice it to say Marvel was simpler back then. FF were truly a staple and I was an old marvel fan, buying then from the drug store rack ( yes for a quarter - I am that old :-) ) They were alot of fun, and FF took a while to find footing for 2 of the characters, but by the time I had a two digit age, they were were royality for marvel. Along with the others commenters , I agree about the very first FF movie just being a good watch. Not important, just fun, but it my be my nostalgia making it so.

Aldo, I have edited my comment to avoid anything that can be assumed a spoiler. Let me know if I missed any, as what I consider spoilers often don’t match what others consider spoilers. 🤷‍♂️

You are right that family is a big part of the fantastic four They’re referred to as “marvel’s first family”. They were the super heroes in the comics that predate Spider-Man, the X-men, hulk, thro, the avengers For a good 20 years they were a top 3 most popular characters at marvel. The X-Men eventually took its spot in the 80s-90, and then in the 2010s the avengers took its spot due to the movies. So they fell out of popularity outside of comic circles. They are my personal favourite superheroes. I’ve read probably 200 comics with them in it (and that doesn’t even scratch the surface lol) The incredibles which I think you’ve seen, i can’t remember, is heavily inspired by them.

I would say, if you want to watch the old ones. Watch the 2005 one and then see if you like it and decide the rest One of the reasons the new movie is so hyped is because not a lot of people like the old ones lol I think the 2005 movie is good. not perfect. But entertaining. But the 2007 and 2015 one sadly not as much. But at the same time. You liked a lot of the less popular x-men movies too. And your reaction actually helped see some of the ones I didn’t like through a new light For example I hated x-men origins wolverine due to its many continuity errors with the rest of the franchise, and how they completely changed Deadpool from the comics. However when I watched it along with you, I went into with an open mind. I turned off my knowledge of the comics, and just treated it as a standalone movie. And I enjoyed it a lot more. There is actually a lot to like about the movies So I feel like you might also have similar views on the 2015 one For reference. Many people say X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the worse X-Men movie. But you liked it. And people often say the 2015 Fantastic Four movie is the worst fantastic four movies. but honestly I think going into it without expectation or knowledge of the comics could help your enjoyment However dont expect this new movie to be anything like the old ones because this movie is the MCU’s attempt to “right the wrongs” of the past attempts. Be more faithful to the comics, play into the 60s space race aesthetic (which is what the original comics were like), etc

Connor Vide

David, you’re spoiling the future movies. Let’s tell her about that once she’s a little more caught up. Please edit the comment.

In this case, it's not worth watching the old F4 movies. Unlike Deadpool and Wolverine which used old X-Men continuity, this is a proper MCU attempt at these characters and so I think you should just wait til you catch up in order.

Raj

I don’t think the other FF movies are going to be that important. There was a hilarious and unexpected shout-out in Deadpool & Wolverine. I’m laughing thinking about it.

Gideon Zahler

As you can see by the cars and overall retrofuturism aesthetic, this actually IS a multiverse movie. Apparently the 60s era and temperament is key to getting these characters accurate.

Fawks

I agree you don't need to see the old FF movies. They may actually take away from the MCU premier of the FF.

How about a reaction to the “thunderbolts big game trailer”

ChiefWill15

Before he was Captain America, Chris Evans played the Human torch in a previous Fantastic Four movie.

Michael Dellinger

The music for this ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ teaser was composed by Michael Giacchino. Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Venessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm) are, in my opinion, perfect casting. As the prior Fantastic Four films were attempts (with varying degrees of success) I highly recommend just watching Fantastic Four: First Steps, which, just as Tom Holland’s Spider-man films did, pick up with the origins assumed. Marvel Studios is considering this a clean slate for Marvel’s ‘First Family’. [*This comment was revised to address concerns over possible ‘spoilers’]

Your well being is more important. Take care of yourself. 💖

I advise against watching the previous Fantastic Four movies. The 2005/7 ones were passable but had a lot of problems (e.g. they relegated Sue, who's the most powerful and capable member, to little more than cheesecake). The 2015 movie was awful. Both of those franchises did a terrible disservice to Doctor Doom, as well. The MCU absolutely will not carry on anything from those movies (plot, characterization, themes, ANYTHING), and you won't need to watch those movies to enjoy anything in the MCU.

Robin Wise

I think she should have watched the other movies before watching this trailer. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hope you're feeling better!

I have been battling the flu these past few days too. Not fun. Spring can't come soon enough. Hope you are feeling better. The Thing's cooking dialogue is a bit of a nod to the FX/Hulu series The Bear. The actor who plays The Thing, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, is on that show and won two Emmys for his role of "cousin" Richie. I would compare the show to Ted Lasso, but more stressful and not as frequently funny, although it can be hilarious. The characters are very well drawn and make you feel the whole range of emotions. Highly recommend if you haven't seen it.

Mike Smith

First one is a decent fun watch… wasn’t bad but nothing great either, the cast is the best part of it. The second one was kinda bad but has some great action scenes. The 2015 one on the other hand should be completely forgotten about by all of mankind. I would just pretend it doesn’t exist honestly.

AJ Franklin

The Fantastic Four is Marvel’s first family! The previous iterations were ok to terrible. With Marvel officially behind this one, it’s shaping up to be a great addition to the MCU and hopefully a better representation of how great they really are.

Tony M

The Fantastic Four is not a team... they are a family. In fact, the tagline in the comics is that the FF is the First Family. And you don't need to watch the other FF movies - they are kind of bad...

The Dingo

That big head that loomed over the city is Galactus. He’s one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Comics, and he’s been long awaited to join the MCU. That’s exactly why I hope they don’t kill him off in this one film. I would love to see all the Avengers and X-Men (the ones still alive anyway) take him on in a final clash fit for a massive blockbuster. This is kind of an origin story. From what I heard, they’re trying to cut to the chase a little bit. In a similar sense, that's also how they did Spider-Man: Homecoming. Back then, they decided not to show the spider bite or the passing of Uncle Ben since we’ve seen that before. Speaking of which, Jon Watts was supposed to direct this film but he decided to step down so he can take a breather from creating superhero content. It’s okay though because he went to work on the Star Wars series Skeleton Crew which I would recommend. As a result, First Steps was now directed by Matt Shakman. This is his second Marvel project. Before this, he directed all nine episodes of WandaVision. With that in mind, you can already grasp this movie’s retro vibe. It kinda felt like this during the first half of the show.
