Shaun Of The Dead (Full Reaction)

This scary movie parody won in the last Spooky Movie Poll!!! I was worried it would be too scary for me since zombies are terrifying but it was hilarious!

Synopsis: Shaun is a 30-something loser with a dull, easy existence. When he's not working at the electronics store, he lives with his slovenly best friend, Ed, in a small flat on the outskirts of London. The only unpredictable element in his life is his girlfriend, Liz, who wishes desperately for Shaun to grow up and be a man. When the town is inexplicably overrun with zombies, Shaun must rise to the occasion and protect both Liz and his mother.

Let me know what you think of this film!!

….and generally speaking, when confronted with a particularly thorny issue, you’d agree that ‘ringing Mum’ is often a good resource, no?

Dearest Jax, I’m so glad you enjoyed those. Please enjoy two of my favorites: https://youtu.be/zb4VyIJ4-mY?si=-FhweOci_l4DDTeZ Consider this the ideal response of the harried professional scientist taking time to deal with a, let’s say, ‘over ambitious’ part-time scientist’s desperate desire to promote his own pet theory….. neither of us are scientists, Dearest Jax, but we can agree that clams do NOT, in fact, have teeth? Now, this one…. Well, this one will have to speak for itself….. https://youtu.be/80I6jBrsRcw?si=S7mW7QKtYwhmbuZG

Thanks for sharing those links! Those letter readings are so funny and such a creative idea. Considering dogs can't look up, I think it's great that they are focused on making the world a better place! As for their political preferences, I think dogs would just do as they are told and cats would do what they want. 😂

I love that you wore your SotD shirt!! That must have been so fun to see this in the theaters for the 20th anniversary. Hot Fuzz is definitely on my watch list. Since this movie was so fun, I'd love to check out the rest of the Cornetto Trilogy. I've never seen Spaced, but that's so cool that they made references to their relationship from that show in this from!! How fun that they got fans to be the zombies!! I didn't even notice Chris Martin! Thank you so much for providing some awesome backstory and fun facts about this film!!! It was great to read. The film was so wonderful. I'm glad you enjoyed watching my reaction!

Jacqueline

Are you trying to give her a heart attack?

Aendery2k

So when’s Dawn of the dead coming?

Canonman28

Never seen this movie, much to the annoyance of my friends who love it. And I am kicking myself because it was really enjoyable! I loved all the little background details, not surprising given Edgar Wright. I'm glad you reacted to this and gave me motivation to watch it too!

Ed Scoglio

"Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz", and "The World's End" are a great trilogy, but this director really ramps it up with "Baby Driver" and my personal favorite "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" which I think you would also love! Edgar Wright also almost directed Ant-Man originally, but he dropped out due to creative differences, unfortunately. Really wish we could've seen his version, especially because I'm such a huge fan of the way he edits all his films. If you decide to watch the others, you'll definitely notice it! Thanks for another wonderful reaction and have a lovely week!

DaftBasterd

I would have loved to have seen some insight into the other team's experiences!

Jacqueline

Right!?!

Jacqueline

The biggest jumpscare was Shaun running into his ex 😂

I'm so glad you enjoyed watching this!! Zombies are normally way to scary for me, but this film was the perfect blend of horror / comedy. Poor Ed indeed!

Jacqueline

I want to like this movie, I really do, but the percentage of unlikable characters is just too high for me. Comedy is highly subjective, and most idiot or oblivious characters are terribly unfunny to me. I actively root for the zombies in this one a little too hard. (I think I would have loved the version of this movie where we follow the other team led by Jessica Hynes and Martin Freeman. lol) I much prefer the other movies in the Cornetto Trilogy as the balance of competents to idiots in those movies work better for me.

Michael Kemmet

Short step from here to Hot Fuzz, the best of the Cornetto Trilogy

Andy Munden

I love the Cornetto trilogy

Do you feel American house pets are as seemingly politically minded as their cousins across the Atlantic?

Lamar Smith

This entire series, Dearest Jax, is delightful. May I also offer a series of letters to the editor regarding the political leanings of England’s most common house pets headlined by Benedict Cumberbatch? I’m sure you need no explanation that, in England, the Tories are, generally speaking, the more Conservative Party, generally aligned with the more upper-crust, traditional portions of English society whilst Labour aligns closer to the working class, in very broad terms…. https://youtu.be/nFKwdxUv7Hc?si=n9u-BL6eNriAw5Zb I would be utterly fascinated for you to comment on Benedict’s description of dogs and cats

Lamar Smith

I remember that sweater from last year, Dearest Jax! Glad you enjoyed this, I’m still holding out for ‘WWDITS’ I’m as sure you’ll like it as I was about ‘BH6.’ As a lobbying effort for ‘WWDITS,’ I’ll offer Taika Waititi reading a letter about some sort of traffic issue in New Zealand. It’s delightful and demonstrates his brilliant comedic timing and range when you consider he plays a, dare I say, ‘prissy,’ surprisingly inept vampire…. https://youtu.be/yRUtyCzfuI0?si=3Qplp9R8RP7S--40

This movie was a blind spot for me for a while (zombies gross me out!) so your reaction was a great excuse to finally check it out. It did not disappoint! I had seen Warm Bodies before and that movie gave me the ick, but I found this movie hilarious and I didn't find it gross or frightening at all. Poor Ed! Maybe he would've fared better if he played Resident Evil instead of Tekken 2.

Mike Smith

Okay, now that I've watched the full reaction - and I'm so happy you loved it - here are a few more 'fun faxts for Jax'. The woman who played Yvonne they kept running into is actress/writer Jessica Stevenson and she was the co-star and writer on the British comedy series, "Spaced" which also co-starred and was co-written by Simon Pegg. In it they play two people posing as a married couple so they can rent a flat and that's why there are so many references to where they're each living when they first run into each other. The idea for SotD actually first came from an episode of "Spaced", which Edgar Wright directed every episode of. Many of the zombies in the film were actually either on the show (one of them is still dressed in his main costume in the film as he wore in the series) and a lot of the other zombies were recruited from a "Spaced" internet fan site and were paid 1 pound each to be in the film. Also, Chris Martin from Coldplay was a zombie in the background at the end of the film when Shaun and Liz first come out of the basement. Just like most of Edgar's scripts, especially these that he co-wrote with Simon, there are so many perfect callbacks that play out, and there are also a lot of fun easter eggs in this one for those of us who are fans of the original zombie films by George Romero, especially "Dawn of the Dead" which SotD obviously took its name from. Okay, I'll finally shut up now, but I could go on for a lot longer. Another 'Jaxerrific' reaction!

HeyHeyJK

Oh, time to drop everything and watch this. I just went to the 20th anniversary rerelease at the Dolby theater at AMC16 last month, and I have SotD (and Hot Fuzz) figures, artwork, I'm literally wearing my SotD t-shirt right now, and just got a 20th anniversary Winchester pint glass (I'll drink out of it while I'm watching the reaction). So ... that pretty much outs me as a megafan. Really hope you watch "Hot Fuzz" next, along with "The World's End" to finish out the Cornetto Trilogy, but then just watch all of Edgar Wright's movie because he's amazing. You woud love "Baby Driver" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World", too. JaXForce!

HeyHeyJK

If Jax liked this one she will probably love Hot Fuzz.

Uncle Phoenix

YES YES YES!!!! I'm a happy😃
