A powerful storm brings up painful memories of the past, and puts everyone in jeopardy in the present.
We learned so much about Aang and Zuko's past! It was such a pleasure being able to get a deeper look at their lives before the show started. Seeing how Zuko got his scar and was banished was heartbreaking. Also, seeing how Aang was asked to grow up way too fast made me better understand why he wanted to hold onto his childhood.
Overall, this was a wonderful episode. It's also perfectly clear that Zuko's story is going to be just as important as Aang's.

Deep cut that show just how good the writing is: The Hero's journey for aang began with a "cowardly" act and the villains journey for zuko began with a heroic act! They are perfect parrallels of eachother and that theme will keep popping up in different ways down the line
