The gist of the story is Princess Petunia's parents, the king and queen, feel she needs to learn patience. They setup a day where their princess has to sit in the throne room and listen to the peasants' complaints for a day. Petunia cannot fathom doing this without entertainment so she brings her jester, a stool, and 100 tacks to represent each peasant she has to hear out.
