Japan Earthquake False Information Spreading | Haneda, Hokuriku Update

Interesting comments Patty. I experienced the aftermath of the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964. There was no social media then but the reporting outside of Alaska varied as to accuracy from day to day. In retrospect it was much easier to correct misinformation despite the much greater challenge then to disseminate it. For example we had no phone service for days and the only communication to the rest of the world was by Ham Radio. At the time I was an Explorer Boy Scout and we would help the Civil Defense office by physically delivering the Ham Radio messages to various businesses as they came in to their Ham Radio receiver.

After the Maui fires I saw firsthand false news spreading ( still spreading ) I saw my friends spreading false news on the socials! How were they to know? None of them lived on Maui. I even encountered false news from Japanese people about the Maui fires when I visited Japan in November! I mean, how were they to know? It’s frustrating to be sure.
