And what about the deep state??

Rambling Travel Vlog: getting hate, should I change?

Comments

Skye, you’d actually look really cool in a nice pair of black framed “wayfarer” style Ray Bans or some equivalent. I’ll hook you up. You’ll look fresh! :)

Skye, I am very sorry to hear your frustration about this. I agree with what Matthew and Chris said, but I would add a couple of things: 1) actually, your channel could almost be a small happy island in the internet world. I read the comments to the videos quite often, and compared to other channels or socials I follow, it gives me the impression that yours gets very little hate or disdain, almost nothing. In short, if you take the bigger picture instead of the sporadic case, I would conclude that your personality is well-liked rather than the other way around. Unfortunately, our brains are set to emphasize negative comments more than positive ones, and because of this we have a kind of bias where we may think we are hated by the mass instead of by a few individuals. 2) While it is true that part of this hatred stems from the general disrespect that a commentator has sitting comfortably behind a computer screen, the other stems from an unhealthy attachment to one's idols (in this case music). Not understanding the irony and intelligence behind the phrases you quoted about Hozier mistakenly leads the listener, dazzled by his faith, to take it all as something personal. 3) I insist on an aspect that I have quoted other times here, and with which I don't think you agree, but I reiterate it by adding something more. When you tend to polarize the musical discussion as Fantano does more or less consciously (W vs. L, almost bullying vs. deifying the artist), you also tend to polarize the opinion of the public, which tends to reinforce its defensive beliefs and barriers (paranoia). Moreover, Fantano sells himself precisely as omniscient (there is no album that he does not know and remember perfectly, and thus is able to judge from above). Your approach (besides being much more interesting from my point of view), is far more sane. Offering positive opinions, but at the same time being honest and ironic about your own ignorance, is a whole other thing. But it is also probably more complex for the general public to fully digest and understand. I would be proud if I were you to have succeeded in creating your niche of auditors who really understood what you are accomplishing with your videos, and I would make an effort (although sometimes I understand that it is not easy) to leave the rest alone. It doesn't deserve your attention and time.
