WATCH ALONG | CLASSIC DOCTOR WHO | 22x5 | The Mark of Rani: Part 1

REMINDER: We're skipping ahead to this story because I've been informed that I should watch this before watching episode six of the current season of modern Doctor Who; which I plan to record this week. I've also been informed this story is only two parts, but that both parts are about 45 minutes long. So, we're doing part one this week, will do part 2 next week, and then we'll resume our regular schedule of two episodes from season 14 per week on June 19th.

Comments

Although the story is nothing too extraordinary, I really enjoy the look and feel of it. It was mostly shot on film in real locations; and the scenery together with the music conjures up a pleasantly English pastoral feel. The 6th Doctor is sharp and often sarcastic - but he's also deeply moral and oddly loveable. Trivia: Colin Baker never had a stunt double. The scenes where he's on the trolley, and then the little rail-car, where all him - with no safety precautions. In the sequence when he's dangling on the chain over the pit, he really was hit accidentally by the shovel and had his finger dislocated as a consequence. Even worse, though, was the seemingly innocuous scene where he rubs dirt on his face - he wasn't aware (as, indeed, no-one was) that the carefully chosen dirt had recently been used by a dog as its toilet!

Mccoy as 7 gets a lot of hate. By this point, the BBC had lost faith in the show and it started to tell as the show began it's decline into the eventual cancellation in '89 But I've always had a soft spot for this doctor
