Is this the kind of thing you want to see?

The only artist (albeit on a micro commenting scale; both on your videos and other areas of social media) has been if you say one negative thing about Taylor Swift (even if you're otherwise overwhelmingly positive) her stans latch onto that. I think it's like uberfans of sports teams; people's personal identities are literally wrapped up in who they support that an attack on their favourite artist/team isn't an attack on that but an attack on them personally and so they respond with ad hominem attacks because then (for them) it becomes emotional instead of a rationale debate (and you have to wonder how productive it is to engage; George Bernard Shaw, wrestling with pigs, and all that). As you point out, it seems like, in those instances, it's not even enough to acknowledge your background, biases, and your respect for the artist, it's (as you say) hearing but not listening.
I think your point about who can analyze art is poignant. You don't have to live in ancient Rome to be an expect on ancient Rome. I think as long as you show respect (which you do) it's good. And outsiders also bring in valuable perspectives that insiders may be blind to (see how many toxic cultures have been brought to light by diversifying different spaces and people saying "you think this behaviour that you guys have been engaging them was/is normal?).
btw the Raptors did a sick intro on opening night in the late noughts where they had the TSO & a choir open with "O Fortuna" and then switch the hook of "You Can Hate Me Now" while the players were being introduced

“The more fans are appreciated, the more there fans are intolerant to criticism.” You said it yourself! Great video, I always like these behind the scenes vids.
