If I can live there, I would welcome whatever taxes are required to own a home in Japan, especially around Tokyo or southern Japan.

2019-04-12 00:08:30 +0000 UTCThe topic of this video reminded me of a movie I watched a couple years ago at our local Japanese Film Festival. It was set in a 1970s housing project - large apartment buldings, each maybe 6-7 stories tall, and in the process of being abandoned as children who grew up there moved away and the only residents left being older couples and widows/widowers. Shared facilities such as playgrounds and pre-schools were now unused and falling into disrepair. Apparently this is a HUGE problem in Japan, even around Tokyo - lots of old housing projects like this. The main characters were a retired pharmacist and his wife. There were still a few residents left, as with any housing in Japan there was a residents' association with regular meetings, and this was when they'd all see each other. One day the pharmacist dissapeared - he didn't show up for the meetings, when (nosy) neighbors visited, they'd only see the wife. Rumors started - did he run off with another woman, or did she kill him and was hiding the body?
