Patreon LIVE Q&A STREAM from Korea!!

I will be live streaming tomorrow from the YouTube creators summit tomorrow and will do a Q&A with patrons to see how I can make the experience better for you and for me on YouTube. Many of the top executives from YouTube are here!! They now know about ONLY in JAPAN more and that will help the channel grow in the future as more opportunities to try new things, collaborate will arise from it! Learned a lot and will share it with you.
There is not a lot of time here so I will do it the morning before I leave (Friday AM Japan time / Thursday PM USA time) from the hotel to return to Tokyo. More info on it tomorrow but feel free to leave a question below and I’ll get to it. Thank you!! -John

Quick update: Youtube woke me up way too early to leave for the flight — I just couldn’t do the Q&A— so I’ll reset the time and days to this weekend in a new post -John

ONLY in JAPAN

Percentage of cut from Superchat and monthly fee should be reduce. 25% to 30% cut is way too high. A nominal 1% to 5% as admin fee leaving more for creators.

My last thought is having a dedicated YouTube livestream app that gives creators a button to change the view to portrait, landscape, wide angle, and dual camera. John, I like your wide angle clip-on lens, but it will not accommodate when you eventually upgrade to a new cellphone one day. By the way, Unboxed Therapy on YouTube just announced a list of cellphones that are best for watching videos from the YouTube app and it ain't iPhone. If only they did a comprehensive review on how these cellphones stack up for livestreaming on YouTube.

Adding more of my thoughts on this topic, at least on something that Nosh has brought up. I don't recall ever seeing or receiving an official email or disclaimer on YouTube that states that a percentage of the superchat gifted to a creator is subject to a certain percentage given to YouTube. This seems to be a bit deceitful. Heck, I'd rather PayPal a creator instead and pay a marginal service fee for gifting money aka a superchat. YouTube already makes money from advertising and viewers like me who pay a monthly fee to be on YouTube Red. Taking a percentage cut from a superchat that I kindly gifted to the creator should go to the creator and only the creator.

Hey John, I believe they need a dedicated app for livestreaming. This is something you had mentioned many times before. There are certain functionalities that lends itself to a dedicated app that is separate from the YouTube app. In fact, a dedicated app could be developed to add enhancements for creators to use that will make the viewing much better for a viewer. I'd like you see the forward facing and back facing camera (aka dual camera mode) on video at the same time so we can simultaneously see a creator's reaction to something that they are showing us. I have also noticed that you, John, have a hard time catching all the questions in real time. You have to scroll through all the comments and find the questions. It would be nice to have a button on the dedicated YouTube livestream app that can filter all the questions only so you can read them.

Hi John. I hear some Youtubers saying that they don't understand a lot of the things YouTube does in regards to their algorithms and it leaves them puzzled on how to maximize their views. Do you feel that you learned a lot about their motivations for doing things that people on the platform are confused about?

YouTube Need to make a live stream app for people just saying

You've probably mentioned this to the YouTube powers-that-be in attendance already, but it would be nice if they can fix the glitch in the app that causes the mirror image (reverse text) problem. Obviously, not much you can do about it yourself, but I wouldn't be surprised if it negatively impacts YouTube's overall viewing time across all channels.

2. Anther problem unique to Live Streams has to do with audience retention and how the algorithm applies that to your channel. THANKFULLY, Only in Japan *Go is not NOT impacted by this mathematical anomaly. This is because John has a separate channel for your live content. For creators who live stream on their main channel YouTube applies audience retention statistics in the same way it does to other videos. So while your curated content may do well and capture your viewers for 30 min or more, the live streams often have viewers who only pop in for a moment and leave... In this instance the algorithm detects your lowered audience retention and is less likely to recommend or promote your other videos!!! This is ridiculous! This would be like Neilson ratings applying the same ratings to telethons as it does to prime time drams! This absolutely needs to be fixed.
