Billy Wintergreen is Slade's mentor in the comics, same combat training, if not better, but Deathstroke is technically a supersoldier in the comics so that gives him the edge against him. But yeah they changed their origin story a lil to fit the show but not so much that it trashes the character. This nigga a great Deathstroke I can't even lie. Idk if I said this already but this was supposed to be a Batman show, but either DC or Warner Brothers didn't wanna give CW the right or licenses to one of their biggest characters. Especially because they were making Batman movies at the time. So that's why there's so many similarities between this green arrow and Batman. Honestly this woulda been an amazing Batman show, and DC and Warner Bros agree, the success of this show is what paved the way for the rest of the DC shows, even outside of CW, like Gotham, and Titans. This green arrow is basically the CW's Batman. It's better comparison than comic book green arrow so just keep that in mind while watching the show. Cus it only gets better in the next seasons. They go crazier with the Batman lore.
