A few fun facts for this episode,
The astronauts were named after well known film spacemen...Austin from The Six Million Dollar Man, Taylor from The Planet of the Apes and Brubaker from Capricorn One. And the year Will was sent through the portal was a reference to 2001. A Space Odessy.
The sword, wine and sextant were the ones that the 1900 'sacrifice' was given just before his journey through the portal. And the bottle of wine is why Jemma cried during their date.
The episode was filmed in Simi Valley during a heatwave and quite a few of the crew, including the director, suffered from heatstroke. They filmed pretty quickly, usually only doing a couple of takes per shot and had over 20 minutes of extra footage that didnt make it into the episode, but a few are available on the deleted scenes extra for the season 3 DVD.
Lil jokes that this is the casts favourite episode...as they got a whole week off whilst she had to work.
And finally, her birthday cake in the clip on her phone is in the shape of the TARDIS! It's only shown briefly but it is a nice touch.

This is easily one of my favourite episodes of the show and I'm so glad you loved it too. The way that this episode is structured is superb, which is basically Jemma telling Fitz everything that went on in the 4,722 hours that she spent on the planet. The way that she works through the shock of being transported to another planet and survives for over a month with limited resources is really impressive. She may not have passed her field assessment but she is a warrior in her own way and demonstrated that in spades in this episode. Her anguish at getting thwarted at the last moment is heartbreaking and she, understanderbly loses hope about returning home, until Fitz throws himself through the portal to save her only to find out about Will!
Great episode and superb acting, Elizabeth was told early in the season that she may get a solo episode but as it was so outside the box that the network might balk at filming it. But they green lighted it and thank the heavens they did. Lil earned herseld the TV Line performance of the week award and it was well deserved!
