Hi everyone!
This week's video is about a free, open-source, self-hostable tool called Quartz that you can use to publish Obsidian (or other Markdown-based) notes. It recently won the Best Tool in the Gems of the Year 2023 awards, voted on by members of the Obsidian community.
Publishing notes with Quartz involves more setup than using Obsidian Publish, which is the service that I have been using (and am still using) for my main vault, Fork My Brain. However, Quartz IS very nice to use, and is nicely decoupled from Obsidian, meaning that if you decide to switch note-taking tools, you wouldn't be lost without a way to publish your notes as long as they're still in Markdown.
I also thought that I'd take the opportunity to use Quartz for my book. Yep, that's finally happening now. I first talked about it last year, but life got in the way and I really didn't make any progress on it. No more. But I'm shifting directions. I'm no longer writing a book about Obsidian; I'm writing a book about learning in public.
It's called Doing It in Public. The outline is up, and I'd love feedback! You can connect your Discord account to Patreon like this to join my Discord server, and tell me what you think in the #book-doing-it-in-public channel there.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
