This week's video is about different ways to take notes from YouTube videos that I've tried, including a recent release I'm pretty excited by. I am on YouTube A LOT, for learning and for pure entertainment, so you better believe being able to extract ideas from videos as easily as I do from books or webpages is important to me.
I've gotten several comments asking for my current template for creating notes on books, so I added a new workflow to the sample vault that includes a command to add a new book and a book template that will be automatically applied. As always, tweak it until it works for you! :)
I've been really enjoying using Mastodon as my primary social network (after YouTube, if you consider that one). If you're curious about what it's like to be in a social network where real people (not companies) post actually meaningful messages about PKM and no algorithm controls what you see, join the fun on pkm.social, a Mastodon instance I'm hosting with my friend Marcus Olsson, developer of Obsidian Projects. It's free, and filled entirely with kind people who are interested in note-taking and personal development.
Recently I tried my hand at creating a Mastodon bot that sends posts I like to Readwise, which was a fun learning exercise.
I've wanted to create my own course for a while, and I've finally been making real progress on that front! I'm hoping to release it very soon... like, in January. (It's a little scary to type that, because now it's out there!) When I release it, all active Patreons will absolutely get a significant discount because it's only thanks to your support that I can carve out the time to work on this side project.
It's going to be an absolute fundamental course to Obsidian, to complement and supplement some of the more intermediate/advanced topics I typically cover on my channel. I've enjoyed making it and I hope others will, too! Stay tuned for more updates on that front. ;)
