It's Sabrina, I was on vacation and I forgot to ask y'all what you thought of this video before I left. But I'm back now and we are recording the aftershow for this video next Thursday so if you have any questions, leave em below!

Hey Sabrina, great video. Loved the emotional component of it, really my favorite part. My question is: This phenomenon of the recorder being taught in schools is a western thing, universal thing, how far did it reach? I remember being taught this back in school here in Colombia so I don't know if it expanded beyond North America and Europe. Fun fact: In spanish we call it "Flauta Dulce" or Sweet Flute

Pablo Rodriguez

First of all, great video as always. Really enjoyed the research montage, especially because as a German I wasn’t aware of the historical connection between recorders and the Nazis. (Btw the recorder as an educational tool is making a bit of comeback in the state of Hesse which plans to make it mandatory in primary schools.) I wanted to ask how the research process went for this project. Was it mostly outsourced to your research assistant? What was your first reaction to the Nazi part?

Aino Esser

If you record the recorder, does that make you the recorder ?

Mitchell Bell

Allison's segment was my favorite part of the video! How did you meet/find out about her?

In the video at 15:16, there was that massive recorder that looked very different from a regular recorder. I was wondering what makes a recorder a recorder and not a different type of instrument? It looks like it's played in a completely different way.

I thought the video was great, and brought back all sorts of memories from playing the recorder in school. I still have a whole bunch of recorders from back then. My question is this: did you discover any new recorder music while making this journey that helped change your mind about the recorder as an instrument? For me, hearing the theme to the Mandalorian TV show by Ludwig Goransson (which features a bass recorder) gave me a new appreciation for the recorder family of instruments. I know from the video that hearing the expert play had an impact on you, and talking about a bunch of copyrighted works might have been a tangent you didn't need in the video, but I wondered if you explored more outside what made the final edit.

Jon Allanson

are you still playing the recorder? what's the piece you're proudest of playing?

Olivia P

If you could instantly know how to play one instrument, what would you choose?

Allie Hughes

Do any of you three play instruments personally or professionally?

Richard Tang

How long did you spend per day practicing? I found it interesting that it took a whole week but that could be cuz I have some music experience (also ode to joy was a blue belt in my recorder karate so idk what that’s about)
