AMA | the public transit video

Sabrina's public transit video is finally out! Have any questions about it, leave a comment and we'll cover it in the aftershow next week :)

AMA | the public transit video

Comments

Loved the video! I feel like this video had more animation than other recent ones (though this may be my bad memory). I remember y'all talking about generally wanting to cut down on the animation element on AIP videos and would be curious to hear how you're thinking about it now, and what decisions go into including it or not. Also, I love that mini metro only made it into the video as a 2 second bit. Did Sabrina end up writing it off as a business expense?

Can we see the trophy!!! is it grained with the winners name? also slightly unrelated to the video, what is the camera setup used on Sabrina's Instagram post for this video, it looks so good!

Ryan

I liked this! I am curious, though: If you were to add in an accessibility column (accessibility as in in "differently abled") to the tier chart, how do you think that'd change your ranking?

Patrick Cable

Why did Sabrina choose walking over cycling (particularly a bicycle with electric motor)?

Dre

What are some systemic or structural changes would you make to North American cities, to make them more walkable. Do you think that there is a connection between the lack of walkable cities/public transit and the disappearance of 3rd spaces?

The Geco NextDoor

Great video! This is a topic I'm passionate about and I could ask a gazillion questions, but I'll just make one comment, and that's that I really wish that the point had been made that most people have already had experiences with public transit, and that's airplanes(unless any viewers have private jets). I do wonder if the near unanimous hatred of air travel is a reason most people choose not to use public transportation is that when people fly it's dirty+crying babies etc

Max

so safety is a category i feel like could have been added to Sabrinas tier list

Adrian

less of a question more of a comment I don't use the bus in Colorado springs (even thought i don't have a car) because of time and safety. the bus is actually more than twice as slow as a car and there have been a lot of shootings here this past year. I'm a young trans queer adult so it's scary to get around without a car too.

Adrian

(P.S. Last time I asked a question, y'all weren't sure how my name was pronounced, but Sabrina totally nailed it. 😄 It is, in fact, Too-gah)

This quickly became a new fave!! Y'all were really firing on all cylinders in this one. I'm particularly impressed at how you're able to acknowledge the depth and complexity of systems or problems without it bogging down the pace or getting unpleasantly overwhelming. What was the most interesting fact or insight from your interviews that didn't make it into the video?

Gabriel Tougas

Was curious how much it cost each person. Thought that would be on the tier list, but I’ve found that the biggest time sink in my city when driving is just finding parking, and that time changes pretty drastically depending on your budget.

As always, great video, guys. this is the funniest AIP I've seen in a long time, I just kept going back to the cursed Lighting Mcqueens. One thing that crossed my mind is that when I think of public transportation and walkable cities, I think of Europe, did you ever consider making some sort of comparison with any city outside of North America?

Pablo Rodriguez

Both Sabrina and Taha said "I like trains" in the video, and neither got ran over by an (animated) train immediately afterwards? :(

Leak

how long did you have to stand there with your “honk if you love public transit sign” before you got your first honk?
