AMA | the japanese internet video

Was there any not video friendly website that really took you by surprise ? πŸ˜‚

Mitchell Bell

Great video! Not sure if this was answered before but I’m really curious about the background work that goes in into each video that the viewers don’t necessarily see. How long does it take to make one video? What is the process like from idea to a final video? Do you guys write each script together? Also, I assume you guys have concurrent videos that you guys work on- how do you keep track of all the ongoing projects?

AJ

While Japanese does use the CJK ideographs, it also uses two phonetic alphabets (hiragana and katakana), adding to the complexity of analyzing their writing systems.

Yes generally speaking images are going to be more to load than text but I think by minimalism she wasn't talking about like images vs text but more about complexity of layout & how much information was displayed at once

Any chance of releasing the data? πŸ˜‰ I'd love to make an interactive vis of it. See if there isn't other stuff smart people can discover from it.

Hi the amount of work that went into this video is astounding. Thank you for blessing us with this. Now you chose screenshots as a means of comparing websites. since I have a very very small view of web design (basically how one can scrape websites): would comparing the html of the websites also work? Why or why not? My hypothesis is that the complexity/clutteredness could also be measured by the length/charactercount of the whole html file or the number of unique elements. Again my knowledge of HTML is very limited. Thank you again for giving us insight to your process.

First of all, great video. One think that came to mind when you mentioned the fact that sites got more minimalistic to optimize for mobile devices is that images are way heavier than text, so wouldn't it work the other way around?
