Related to screentime, I had a friend growing up where their parents didn't have a TV. So when they visited my house, the main thing they wanted to do was watch TV (I don't blame them, it was something they weren't used to having), which I wasn't really interested in because I just wanted to do something different. My point being, even if you have no screens at home, it still might affect how the kid acts when they visit other places, so it's not as black and white to say no screens at home. Again, I don't know anything about parenting.

Basing behavior around empathy rather than consequences sounds pretty cool to me, but I don't know anything about parenting. I just know that when I get microaggressions, saying "ouch" with a quick explanation of why the thing was hurtful seems to wake people up.
